Recycling

Cars generate waste in a number of ways both during the production, use and end phase. All cars placed on the market will one day become waste - so called ELVs, and a Volvo is not yet exempted....

The more we can recycle a car, the more we can reduce the consumption of finite resources and reduce waste to landfill. This is why Volvo, already in the design phase, takes account of the recyclability by choosing correct materials, marking polymeric parts and phasing out substances harmful to the environment when possible. Easy dismantling of parts containing hazardous substances and serviceability are also part of the design requirements.

Today, 85% of the car is designed to be recycled and/or reused and we strive to continually increase the recoverability rate.
