ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (Sept. 29, 2009) - Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, (VCNA) is placing full-page ads in the Sept. 30 issues of USA Today and TheWashington Post that call for distracted driving legislation. Publicly taking a position on the need for legislation is a first for Volvo, and the company chose to do so simultaneous to the Department of Transportation's "Distracted Driving Summit" in Washington, D.C.

The new Volvo C30 steps out and shows the model's full potential and personality. This can be seen in the fresh, self-assured design of the front. And it is emphasized by a wide range of options, including an urbane, bold accessory styling kit.

The refreshed Volvo C70 launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September has the same smart three-piece steel roof, practical seating for four adults and world-leading convertible safety as before. With an updated design the Volvo C70 incorporates a bold, aggressive new front end. The C70 will make its North American debut at the upcoming Miami auto show.

His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent has awarded Volvo Cars a special international award(1) to mark the 50^th Anniversary of the invention of the three-point safety belt and in acknowledgement of the company's vision to design cars that should not crash.

Rockleigh, N.J.(Aug. 13, 2009) ­­- Today Volvo celebrates the 50^th anniversary of the most important automobile safety device ever invented: the three-point safety belt. Invented by Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin in 1958 and patented in 1959, the device has saved more than one million lives and is now standard equipment on every car. Volvo was also the first carmaker in the world to equip its cars with front seat three-point safety belts as standard.

Volvo Cars has developed a new crash-test dummy to test its cars' active safety systems. The latest addition to the crash-test dummy family is Bob.

On Thursday August 13, 1959, the world's first car with standard-fit three-point safety belts - a Volvo PV544 - was delivered to the Volvo dealer in the Swedish town of Kristianstad.  Over the next 50 years, the V-shaped three-point safety belt saved well over one million lives.

The Crash-Test Dummy family does invaluable work in the development of tomorrow's ever-safer cars. The dummies may cost anything up to $200,000, and at Volvo Cars there are more than 100 members of this tough family.

The aim is that tomorrow's cars should quite simply be able to avoid accidents. Many of today's cars are already so intelligent that they alert the driver or even step in and brake the car to avoid an accident.
