Following the 25th GCC Traffic Week Volvo Cars Middle East Re-enforce Importance of Road Safety
Volvo Cars Middle East recently teamed up with the Abu Dhabi Police department during the 25th GCC Traffic Week which took place from 15-21 March 2009 under the tag-line, 'Don't Call 'Till You Arrive'.The safety week will extend to the month of April to reach as many people as possible and raise awerness on the importance of conscious driving. Volvo Cars Middle East, whose commitment to motoring safety has consistently allowed them to be market leaders on the subject, and Abu Dhabi Police collaborated in order to launch an awareness campaign educating citizens on road safety and regulations.
In support of this partnership, Volvo Cars Middle East and Abu Dhabi Police launched a road educational questionnaire in all ADNOC gas stations and Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Malls. The questionnaire entitles participants to answer educational questions about conscious driving and to enter a draw to win a Volvo C30 R-Design and a Volvo S40 R-Design. The first draw took place on Thursday March 26 and the second draw will be scheduled in two weeks time.
Roula Beiruty, Marketing Manager of Volvo Cars Middle East said: "We are delighted to join forces with Abu Dhabi Police for this initiative. Road safety has and will always be at the core of Volvo's interest. We strongly urge motorists never to use a mobile phone while driving as it distracts the driver from the road. It takes only a second for an accident to happen but with drivers fully focused on the road ahead, the chances of this happening are minimized. The use of hands-free or wireless devices should be the only exception if using a mobile phone is absolutely necessary in the car."
Beiruty added: "In 2008, 2957 accidents took place in Abu Dhabi, resulting in 376 deaths and the injury of 4603 people. This number is unacceptable given the majority of those accidents were caused due to the lack of attention being paid by driver. Our collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police aims to decrease the number of needless tragedies occuring on our roads. Road safety is our most imporatnt concern and should be at the heart of everyone's interest."
Safety has always, and continues to be, of primary importance to the Volvo Car Corporation. The increasing volume of vehicles on the roads of the UAE leads to a greater risk of traffic accidents. As one of the world's largest car manufacturers with a strong heritage in road and vehicle safety, Volvo has an important role to play in creating safer road environments for all drivers.
