THE Volvo emblem and grille sash are set to adorn a pair of S60 V8 Supercars in 2014. The deal, which was announced in June, will see Volvo return to Aussie tin-top racing after an absence of more than a decade and marks the first entry into the category by a factory luxury-car team. Long-established operation Garry Rogers Motorsport will become Volvo Polestar Racing when it makes the switch from Commodores to a pair of S60s, with funding from Volvo Car Australia and engineering expertise from Volvo’s performance partner Polestar Racing. “It’s every team’s dream to get a fully-fledged factory deal. To get something you can plan your business about for a long period of time – it’s great,” says owner Rogers of the elevation from privateer team. The Dandenong-based team inked a contract with Volvo in March and is currently readying to aero test its Volvo S60 V8 Supercars for homologation, ahead of a first track test early in 2014. Over the next few months, evo Australia will follow the development of the car, from the first chassis, to firing the V8 for the first time, and for that first track test.
