FEATURES & OPTIONS

Add something extra

  • Safety Comfort Tech & Sound Pack & Load Performance Environment
  • Preventive safety

    • Daytime Running Lights with daylight sensor
      • With the light switch in the Auto position, the fuel-saving Daytime Running Lights are automatically activated. If the daylight becomes to dim, or if you enter a tunnel for example, a sensor will detect the changed light conditions and activate your car's headlights. They will also be activated if you turn on the windscreen wipers or the rear fog light. The system will turn the headlights automatically as well.
    • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)
      • We’ve all experienced that nasty little shock as we’re changing lanes and suddenly realise that there’s another vehicle in our blind spot. BLIS uses rear-facing cameras installed in the door mirrors to keep a lookout on either side of the car. As a vehicle enters your blind spot, this function can alert you with a lamp built into the front door post – left and right. Together with the door mirrors, this helps you assess the feasibility of a lane change. BLIS is activated once the car exceeds 10 km/h and reacts to almost any type of vehicle, including motorcycles. And BLIS maintains its vigil day or night.
    • City Safety
      • We know that you want to a avoid collisions under all circumstances, also at low speeds. And it only takes a moment’s distraction in a busy city centre to find yourself in just such a scenario. So we wondered whether it would be possible for your Volvo to lend a helping hand. Well, that’s exactly what City Safety is all about, a laser-based technology that can sense an impending collision at speeds of up to 50km/h. In the first instance, City Safety prepares the brakes so that they respond faster when you press the pedal. And if you fail to brake, City Safety will apply the brakes for you and switch off the throttle to lessen the effects of a collision. Even better, if the difference in speed between your car and the one in front is less than 15km/h, City Safety can prevent a collision from happening in the first place. City Safety is activated as soon as you start your car, and ready to assist you in such an eventuality. City Safety is just one element of our complete approach to car safety. We call it IntelliSafe, and it’s a programme targeted at fulfilling our aim to create cars that will help you avoid collisions altogether – it includes such features as Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and much more.
    • Driver Support Package
      • Wouldn’t it be great if your car could help you avoid collisions, spot wayward pedestrians, read road signs and warn you if, for example, you’re exceeding the speed limit? Imagine if your car could even sense you getting tired or distracted as you drive, and then give you a gentle warning. It’s not science fiction, it’s our Driver Support Package and it will keep you safer and give you a more rewarding driving experience. As well as the features mentioned, the Package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (at all speeds), Collision Warning with Full Auto-Brake and Pedestrian Detection, Driver Alert Control (DAC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Active High Beam (AHB), Road Sign Information (RSI) and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
    • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Queue Assist and Distance Alert
      • Helping the driver to keep a safe distance from vehicles in front at all speeds up to 200 km/h, this third generation ACC is a supportive partner for a more relaxed driving experience on any journey. In slow moving city traffic the new Queue Assist function automatically adapts your speed to the vehicle in front. From standstill, a press of a button or the accelerator is all it takes to make your car smoothly tail the vehicle in front. At speeds over 30 km/h, just select the desired speed and the minimum time gap to the vehicle in front. When the radar sensor detects a slower vehicle in front, the speed automatically adapts to that vehicle. And when the road is clear, the car resumes the selected speed. If ACC is disengaged and a vehicle in front comes too close, Distance Alert activates a warning light in the lower section of the windscreen to help you keep a proper distance. ACC also includes Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake (CWAB) including Queue Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection and Driver Alert System.
    • Driver Alert System
      • Driver Alert System includes: Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, Active High Beam Control, Forward Collision Warning and Road Sign Information
    • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
      • It can happen so easily; you’re on a long motorway trip, or momentarily distracted and you wander briefly out of your lane. This puts you in danger of collision, or of simply going off the road on your own. It doesn’t bear thinking about, but your Volvo can help with the Lane Departure Warning system. When you’re driving over 65km/h, a camera looks at the lane markings and can tell if you wander out of your lane. If you do, it will give you an audible warning but if you use indicators to signal a lane change, LDW will stay silent.
    • Lane Keeping Aid (LKA)
      • At speeds between 65 km/h and 200 km/h, Lane Keeping Aid can help prevent single-vehicle road departures as well as collisions caused by temporary distraction. This function uses a digital camera to register the lane markings and help monitor the car’s position on the road. If you get close to a lane marking, LKA will apply a gentle steering wheel torque to help keep the car in the lane. And should you nevertheless unintentionally cross the lane marking you'll be alerted by haptic vibrations in the steering wheel. When you intentionally cross a lane marker using the direction indicators, LKA is not activated.
    • Road Sign Information (RSI)
      • With RSI you don't have to miss important road signs. A forward camera detects speed limit and "no overtaking" signs. The actual sign is then displayed on the centre dial on the instrument cluster – to help keep you constantly alert on current restrictions. If you want, RSI can also alert you with a visual warning if you exceed the speed limit, by flashing gently three times. This is easily set in the centre console menu.
    • Active High Beam (AHB)
      • Journeys after dark have become a lot more enjoyable – and safer – thanks to our Active High Beam, available as an option. With this system, you don’t need to keep flicking between dipped and full beam, which is not only annoying – according to several studies, it’s also a major cause of night-time accidents. Employing camera technology, AHB recognises the headlight beam of on-coming vehicles and automatically shifts between high and low beam to optimise your vision without dazzling other drivers. And because the system is intelligent, the high beam shuts off when you enter a city, but if you drive past an illuminated sign – say a filling station or supermarket – it stays on so you can see what’s coming up. This means you benefit from safety as well as convenience.
    • Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)
      • It can catch you out when you least expect it. And it really is a heart-stopping moment when, on a rain-slicked or ice-covered road, the tail of your car steps out as it threatens to go into a skid. Steer into that skid and you can end up fishtailing, and ultimately, going into a spin. This is precisely the kind of scenario that has made Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) one of our most vital safety advances of the past decade. The system looks at factors like what direction the car is travelling, how fast the wheels are rotating and how much steering lock is applied. Using all this information, DSTC can detect a potential skid and take action to prevent it by reducing engine power and/or braking the appropriate wheels.
    • Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS)
      • To help avoid distractions during critical driving situations, IDIS constantly analyses your driving and will delay secondary information from the car or one of its on-board systems when it detects intense steering, braking or acceleration. As soon as things calm down, the phone call or the delayed information is presented. IDIS can be set up to let phone calls through in all driving situations.
    • Anti-locking brakes with Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA)
      • The anti-locking disc brakes are designed for optimal performance even during repetitive and intensive use. You can brake as hard as you like as you steer clear of trouble. EBA detects an attempted emergency braking and, when necessary, provides added assistance to bring the car to a standstill in the shortest possible distance. Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) distributes the braking effect between the front and rear wheels to achieve optimal results according to load and driving conditions.
    • Active Bending Lights (ABL) with Dual Xenon Technology
      • You know when you’re driving down a winding country road at night and the headlights don’t quite show you everything coming up around the next bend? We wondered, what if your headlights could swivel like eyes, so your car could help you see around corners? So we developed Active Bending Lights – with motorised lamps that can turn up to 15 degrees in either direction – that follow the way you steer. And by using extra bright Dual Xenon lights (low beam and high beam), you get a 90 per cent boost to your vision round bends at night. This means you can gain a further 45 metres for braking. You can also experience highly effective low-beam illumination on narrow, winding roads and extremely powerful high beams on the motorway – a sensor disengages the adaptive function during daylight to reduce wear. It’s a very clever system, too – depending on the load in the car, the headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road, even during hard acceleration or braking.
    • LED dayrunning lights
      • Automatically activated during daylight, these energy efficient LED lights make your car more conspicuous. And when the dipped headlights are needed for illumination, they are automatically engaged by a twilight sensor. What’s more, the spoiler integrated LED lights also add to the distinct styling of your Volvo.
    • Emergency Brake light (EBL)
      • We’ve all been on the motorway when the car in front unexpectedly brakes hard and then you have to brake even harder, while praying that the car behind you reacts in time. Wouldn’t you like to have some way of making sure traffic behind knows there’s a problem? Well, that’s our Emergency Brake Light, which works above 50km/h and knows the difference between normal and panic braking. If it is a panic stop, the brake lights will flash at a rate of four times per second, which will telegraph a clear message to following traffic that there’s a potential problem ahead. Once you slow to below 10km/h, the brake lights stop pulsing and your hazard lights take over.
    • Warning triangle
      • This lightweight wide-angle reflector stands upright to alert other road users even in strong winds and on slippery surfaces. It folds easily and stores in its own case.

    Protective safety

    • Reinforced passenger compartment
      • Imagine the peace of mind you and your passengers will have knowing that a strong protective steel cage surrounds you. And that it’s reinforced with one of the strongest steel types available – boron steel. In a collision, the front and rear crumple zones help to dissipate the energy of the crash to reduce the impact on those inside the car, while in a side-on impact, our Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS) distributes the crash force across a large portion of the car’s body to further reduce your risk of injury. And to further help protect passengers, there is a steel cross-member under the dashboard.
    • Energy-absorbing frontal structure
      • The unique geometry of the frontal structure and longitudinal steel struts in the doors help disperse crash energy away from the front to the rear of the car, reducing impact effects on driver and passengers. The fact that all Volvos have transversely mounted, compact in-line engines, results in maximum space for deformation and energy dispersion.
    • Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)
      • We believe that the car should bear the brunt of any collision, not the people inside it. That’s why we’ve developed our cars so that they offer legendary protection, not just from front and rear impacts, but also from side-on collisions. The steel framework of the car – and that includes the front seat frames – has been designed to help displace the impact of a side-on collision away from the people inside and prevent intrusion into the cabin. And because we understand that an impact with a larger vehicle is a possibility on busy roads, the extremely strong side structure contains ultra-high strength steel to help withstand a severe impact. We have even taken into account the side windows – the Inflatable Curtain (IC) works in conjunction with SIPS and the side airbags to protect people in the front seats. In the rear, SIPS and the IC protect the passengers in the outer rear seat.
    • Restraint technologies
      • In a collision, Volvo’s restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within fractions of a second in the event of a collision and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to optimise protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation, depending on the force of the collision. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. Side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries in a side collision. The Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection for subsequent impacts.
    • Safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters
      • Safety belts are the first line of defence when it comes to help protecting people during a crash. That’s why we introduced them in 1959. We also invented the audible and visual safety belt reminder and today, everybody in the car is reminded to fasten their safety belts before moving off. And in the information display on the instrument panel, you can check that the rear seat passengers have all fastened their safety belts and that nobody unfastens them during the trip. Pre-tensioners activate to tighten the belts within fractions of a second in the event of a collision. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled fashion.
    • Dual-stage airbags, driver and front passenger
      • In a frontal collision, the driver and passenger airbags help protect your head, face and chest. But because no two collisions are the same, the airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the impact. To help minimise the impact on the driver, the driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. And if the impact is low enough that the airbags aren’t needed, the system will just deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary.
    • Side airbags
      • To help protect the chest and hip during a side-on collision, the side airbags inflate during a side-on impact. They are located in the ideal spot on the front seatback.
    • Inflatable Curtain (IC)
      • In a frontal offset or side-on collision, the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear passengers who are sitting on the sides. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts. And in Volvos equipped with integrated booster seats, the Inflatable Curtain has been extended downward to improve head protection for smaller or younger children.
    • Collapsible steering column
      • The steering column is an advanced part of the safety system, with the upper and lower sections giving way in a controlled manner in a frontal impact to help protect the driver.
    • Pre-prepared restraints
      • Wouldn’t it be great it your car could prepare for the worst? Well, your Volvo can, with another IntelliSafe feature that maximises comfort while quietly and unobtrusively going about the business of safety. Using advanced sensors, the car scans the road ahead and if the system spots an obstacle that could result in a collision, it prepares the airbags and seatbelts for the expected crash force. This together with a robust body structure gives the best protection in a low or medium-severe frontal collision.
    • Energy-absorbing interior
      • All the panels and door sides are padded with energy-absorbing materials to help reduce the risk of injury to the car’s passengers.
    • Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS)
      • It’s something that happens every day in every major city in the world – a moment’s inattention and one driver runs into the back of another. And the result can be long-term injury as a result of whiplash. Volvo, as part of its IntelliSafe programme, has developed a system that can help reduce the risk of long-term injury by as much as 50 per cent. During a rear impact, the WHIPS system moves the entire seatback with the passenger or driver – similar to the way you might gently catch a ball – while the head restraint remains rigid to support the neck. A unique Volvo design.
    • Head restraints
      • We have developed head restraints that offer outstanding protection regardless of a person’s height, whether they are seated in the front or the rear. And the rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to improve the driver’s rearward visibility. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position. The outer head restraints can fold forward at the press of a button (optional) to further improve rear vision. In the folded position, they too are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position.
    • Anti-submarining protection
      • To help prevent that passengers slide under and out of their safety belts in the event of a big impact, the seats feature anti-submarining guards which are specially shaped panels angled upwards at the forward edge inside the seats.
    • Protection of unprotected road-users
      • To help reduce the effects from an impact on unprotected road-users, the front of the vehicle is gently rounded, the headlamps are integrated flush with the body, and the bonnet is energy-absorbing to act as a crumple zone.
    • First-aid kit
      • The first-aid kit is conveniently carried in the load compartment and contains a variety of bandages. The contents are stored in different compartments to make it easier to find what you need in an emergency.

    Security

    • Alarm
      • The alarm is connected to the doors, bonnet, boot and ignition. It also reacts to movement inside the car or the breaking of a window. A level sensor can be added to deter thieves from jacking up the car to steal your wheels or tow it away.
    • Remote-controlled central locking system
      • A touch of a button on the remote control or the optional Personal Car Communicator unlocks the doors and bootlid. Use the personal settings menu to decide if the remote unlocks the driver’s door first, or all doors at the same time. You can also close or open all windows (including the sunroof if you have one) and unlock the boot separately.
    • Automatic door locking
      • To further enhance your personal security, the doors can be set in the information menu to automatically lock the moment you drive away. Alternatively, lock them swiftly from the front seats using the lock button. Lock buttons are also available for the rear seat passengers.
    • Private Locking
      • Private Locking is a function that allows you to keep the luggage and glove compartment locked even when you lend out your remote control or your Personal Car Communicator to, for example, a valet parking attendant. To activate Private Locking, a miniature key incorporated within the Personal Car Communicator is used to lock the glove compartment and boot lid. This stops both compartments – including the hidden storage area under the load compartment floor – from being unlocked with the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator, but allows the central locking system and ignition to be used as normal.
    • Global locking and closing
      • This function allows you to close all windows and lock the car all at once by pressing the button on the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator for two seconds. Alternatively, press the button for two seconds to unlock the car and open all the windows.
    • Immobiliser and theft-protected locks
      • Not only will the door locks withstand most break-in attempts, the electronic immobiliser makes it impossible to start the car without the right key. And even if a would-be thief manages to get into the car via the window, the deadlock system makes it impossible to open the door from the inside.
    • Personal Car Communicator (PCC)
      • PCC is an advanced remote control that combines ‘keyless drive’ with two-way communication with your Volvo. Keep the PCC with you and the car unlocks automatically as you pull the door handle. Start the engine by pressing a button on the dash, and when you park, lock your car by pressing a button in the door handle. Later in the day, if you’re wondering whether you’ve locked your car, the PCC can tell you by displaying the status that the car was last left in, wherever you are in the world. When you are approaching your car (within a distance of approximately 100m), the PCC can give you a warning if the car’s alarm has been activated, and an extra visible warning if it’s been activated within the last five minutes.
    • Approach and Home Safe lighting
      • Activated with the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator, Approach Lighting provides a warm reception on a dark night. This consists of parking lights, interior lights and ground lighting too, if fitted. Home Safe Lighting is activated with the headlight stalk as you leave the car. This feature provides a low beam from the headlight to accompany you to your door, whether you’re returning home or are out on the road.
    • Power retractable door mirrors with ground lighting
      • To protect your door mirrors from damage while the car for example is parked or driving through a car wash, press both buttons for the left and right mirror at the same time to fold them flat against the car. They can also be set to fold or unfold automatically every time you lock or unlock the car. The integrated ground lighting is activated by the approach light button on your remote control, enhancing security as you go to and from your car at night. And to facilitate parking, the door mirrors can tilt automatically (or by the push of a button) when reversing.
    • Laminated windows
      • Extremely tough laminated glass in the side windows and the rear window turns an attempted smash-and-grab into a total waste of time for the would-be thief. It also contributes to a quiet cabin. Additionally, this option includes water-repellent glass in the front side windows for improved visibility in wet weather.
    • Lockable wheel bolts
      • These provide a simple, effective way of reducing the risk of aluminium wheels being stolen. The wheel lock features one uniquely coded socket enabling only you or your garage technician to remove the wheels.
  • Seats

    • Ergonomically designed seats
      • The seats in your Volvo may well be the most important ones in your life – over the lifetime of your car, you will probably spend thousands of hours sitting on them. That’s why we spent so much time developing their ergonomic sculpted design, firm yet comfortable, with supporting side cushions and ergonomic padding. Indeed, our seats are widely accepted as some of the finest in the car world. They have features like stepless lumbar support in the front seats, which allows for the tiniest degrees of adjustment for the best support for each individual. Add in our wide choice of upholstery materials and designs, and you’ll have a seat you’ll never want to leave.
    • Dynamic seats
      • With Dynamic leather upholstery, the front seats feature a uniquely designed structure with deep contours, extra padding and enhanced side support to hug you in the corners and provide superb comfort.
    • Fully adjustable front seats
      • There’s no such thing as a standard-sized Volvo owner. That’s why we’ve taken such care to design seats that can be manually adjusted to fit a huge range of physiques. You can, for example, change the height and the angle of the seat cushion to suit you perfectly and give full under-thigh support, whatever your shape or size. This great adjustability is also optionally available for the passenger seat. To make sure the small of your back is comfortably supported, the lumbar support can be adjusted on each front seat. And the seats slide back and forth over such a large range that even the tallest or shortest drivers will find their perfect driving position.
    • Electrically powered seats with remote memory
      • You know how frustrating it is to climb behind the wheel, only to find that a partner or colleague has adjusted the seat and door mirrors to suit their particular physique. That’s why you can electrically adjust the driver’s seat and door mirrors to your perfect position and then your Volvo saves the settings. Every time you use your remote control for the central locking, the seat and door mirrors will automatically adjust to your preferences (you get two remote controls or Personal Car Communicators with your Volvo and can order up to four more). Each remote control triggers the corresponding setting from the last time that particular remote control was used. Furthermore, you can save up to three different seat and door mirror settings by using the buttons on the seat. And an electrically adjustable passenger seat is also optionally available.
    • Heated front seats
      • Essential for those early morning winter starts, you can set the heating to two positions using buttons on the centre console.
    • Heated seats, front and rear
      • We Scandinavians are used to snow and ice. And because we understand cold weather better than most, few cars are better equipped to deal with freezing temperatures than your Volvo. In fact, thanks to our heating systems, you may now positively look forward to your drive when the mercury drops. Take our heated seats – since they work particularly quickly, your car will be just as comfortable as your living room in no time at all, with three levels for the driver and front seat passenger. Back seat passengers are catered for as well, with heated seats for the two outer positions, equally featuring three levels.
    • Ventilated front seats
      • The optional ventilated front seats make long journeys on hot days much more comfortable. The system works by built-in fans drawing air through the perforated leather upholstery in both the cushions and seat backs. The front seat ventilation can be set to three levels.
    • Coat hanger, front
      • Fitted to the front passenger seat head restraint, this keeps your jacket within easy reach from the driver’s seat and without obscuring your rear vision.

    Climate

    • Cabin filter
      • Preventing dust and pollen from entering the cabin via the ventilation system, the cabin filter is a real benefit to driver and passengers, especially those prone to hay fever or other allergies.
    • Electronic Climate Control (ECC)
      • Electronic Climate Control (ECC) maintains the cabin temperature you choose and can be set independently for the driver and front passenger. Further contributing to your health and comfort, the system’s humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity in relation to the outside climate.
    • Interior Air Quality System (IAQS)
      • Volvo’s IAQS continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
    • Humidity sensor
      • Furthing contributing to your health and comfort, Volvo's unique humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity according to climate on the outside.
    • Clean Zone Interior Package (CZIP)
      • There’s nothing that gets a trip off to a worse start than getting into stuffy car, particularly on a warm day. To prepare a fresh environment in your Volvo, CZIP initiates a ventilation cycle, which is triggered when you unlock the car with your remote control or your Personal Car Communicator. This feature is active on days when it is at least 10°C outside. CZIP also does a great job of venting out allergy and asthma inducing substances.
    • Adjustable rear air vents
      • Air vents that are conveniently located in the door pillars at face level create a comfortable environment for rear seat passengers. They also keep ice and mist off the rear side windows, which makes for a safer journey.
    • Tinted windows
      • Help cut glare and keep cabin temperatures down in hot, sunny conditions.
    • Heat-reflecting windscreen
      • The heat-reflecting windscreen reduces heat radiation from the windscreen and the temperature inside the car by filtering out the sun’s heat-generating invisible infrared rays.
    • Retractable sun curtain, rear windows
      • Elegantly integrated in the parcel shelf, this transparent sun blind helps improve the in-car climate in direct sunlight. Just pull it up and attach it in the retainers.
    • Electrically powered glass sunroof
      • This electrically powered glass sunroof adds a further dimension of airiness and light to the interior. And if the sun is in your eyes, just pull out the integrated sunblind. The sunroof can be opened or closed at the touch of a button in the roof console. It can also be opened or closed together with the side windows using the central locking remote control, the Personal Car Communicator or the lock button inside the car.
    • Heated windscreen
      • Standing outside your car scraping off the ice on a cold winter’s morning isn’t the best start to your day. Now, thanks to our heated windscreen, all you need to do is push a button. When you do, the windscreen will start de-icing immediately just like the rear window and door mirrors, and you’ll soon be on your way.
    • Heated steering wheel
      • Need a little help thawing out those cold winter mornings? Just push a button and warm your hands on our heated steering wheel.

    Storage

    • Front cupholders
      • The two cupholders for the driver and front seat passenger are hidden under an elegant roll-top cover and conveniently positioned in the tunnel console. To provide extra storage, the cupholders can be removed.
    • Versatile front centre armrest
      • The centre console of your Volvo’s cabin is a versatile space with useful storage under the armrest, as well as recesses for smaller items. The armrest also features an AUX input and – depending on your choice of audio system – a USB port to connect your MP3 player or mobile phone to the car’s audio system. Folding back the upper part of the armrest will provide a convenient table for the rear seat passengers.
  • Driver's support

    • Parking Assistance Camera, rear
      • Reversing into a tight parking space can be a stressful experience – wouldn’t it be good to have “eyes in the back of your head”? Well, your Volvo can provide that kind of supernatural ability with a camera mounted in the boot lid/tailgate, which dramatically increases your field of vision behind the car. And to make sure you know how much space you have, reference lines indicate the car’s approximate distance to objects behind. The monitor displays a large area behind your Volvo, as well as the car’s own bumper. And if your car has a towbar, this too is visible on the monitor, which makes backing up to a trailer much easier. The system is activated automatically when you engage reverse gear, and switches off when you disengage reverse gear.
    • Adaptive Digital Display
      • What kind of driver are you? The answer can change from day to day. Sometimes you want an active driving experience, at others you just want to cruise. The Adaptive Digital Display instrument option offers three set-ups – Elegance, Eco and Performance. They allow you to change the way you receive information according to your mood and driving style. Elegance with it’s black colour theme is the default mode, showing current and average speed, current and average fuel consumption, distance to empty tank, time and outdoor temperature. It also shows engine temperature and revs, and keeps you informed about your Active Cruise Control status. Another feature, Road Sign Information, displays a small symbol showing the current speed limit and overtaking rules. In a really smart move, your satnav directions pop up in the middle of the display so you don’t have to move your eyes between two screens. The Eco mode has a green colour theme and is all about encouraging and rewarding a fuel-efficient driving style. Of course, you still get the benefit of satnav directions and Road Sign Information. The Performance mode is in a striking red, and gives you a large rev counter with your speed in a digital readout in the centre. On the right, a power meter shows how much engine power is available, which is a useful tool for overtaking. You can also opt for the standard new Analogue Instrument Cluster with a single large dial and two complementary instruments on either side.
    • SENSUS screen
      • Volvo's intuitive SENSUS screen allows you to explore conveniently the hi-tech features of your car and personalise them to suit your needs. All information is displayed in a high-resolution 5-inch or 7-inch colour screen. A push of the MY CAR button in the centre console gives you access to all system settings like City Safety, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Radar Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Road Sign Information (RSI), lights, door mirrors, climate, central locking, audio and phone. The multimedia audio systems with 7-inch screen will also display the Road Traffic Information (RTI) navigation system, park assist camera, DVD, digital TV etc. Everything is conveniently controlled using the centre console or steering wheel controls – so you can keep your attention on the traffic and your hands on the steering wheel.
    • Trip computer
      • Operated via the indicator stalk, the trip computer shows current and average fuel consumption, how far the fuel will take you and average speed – helping you drive more economically.
    • Park assist sensors, rear and front
      • Activated when you engage reverse gear, rear park assist sensors help you when reversing into tight spaces. The audio system is turned down and a pulsating sound from the rear loudspeakers becomes a continuous tone as you approach an obstacle. Front park assist sensors perform a similar function at the front of the vehicle – alerting you via the front loudspeakers. The remaining distance is also shown in the centre console colour display.
    • Electrically powered foldable rear head restraints
      • The outer head restraints can be folded forward so they don’t block your field of vision when the rear seats are unoccupied. In the folded position, they are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position. The rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to further improve rear vision. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position.
    • Rain sensor
      • Once activated, the rain sensor can start the windscreen wipers as soon as it begins to rain or if water splashes onto the windscreen. For your convenience, it can also automatically adapt the intermittent windscreen-wiper function. Its sensitivity can be adjusted via a ring on the wiper stalk.
    • Multifunctional door mirrors
      • The generously dimensioned door mirrors are power operated using a joystick in the driver's door panel. Embedded in the sides of the mirror are indicators with a novel function. A nudge of the indicator stalk will activate three flashes of the indicator light—so there's less risk your turn will go unannounced. To further enhance your safety and comfort, there are options such as power folding, ground lighting and Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror
      • Ending the need to take your hand off the steering wheel and stop headlight beams shining in your eyes, the anti-dazzle function is stepless and returns to normal when it's no longer needed.
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror with compass
      • This is a mirror that automatically adjusts itself to deflect the headlamp beams of the car behind you. When there's no light to dazzle you, it automatically readjusts to its normal setting. And to help you take a bearing, your direction is continuously displayed in the rear view mirror glass.
    • Illuminated vanity mirror
      • Fitted in the sun visor, lights come on when you open the vanity mirror cover – convenient and practical. Available for both the driver and front passenger.
    • Power windows, front and rear
      • The power windows have controls conveniently located in the door armrests. The front windows can be lowered or raised with a quick press or pull of a button, and you can lock the back windows from the driver’s seat if you’re travelling with small children. In this case, you’ll also be glad of the automatic anti-clamp protection, which will stop a window from closing on a trapped little hand.
    • Interior lighting
      • An entry light on both the driver and front passenger side lights the foot-well area as you get into the car. Front reading lamps are integrated in the roof console. The rear seat reading lamps are recessed in the roof and shaded to avoid dazzling the driver. The interior light will fade out gradually after the doors have been closed, but will switch off immediately if the ignition is turned on or the doors are locked.
    • Speed-dependent power steering
      • The optional speed-dependent and progressive power steering uses sophisticated, speed-sensitive technology to regulate the amount of power assistance you need while driving. At highway speeds, the steering is firm and positive. When parking or in slow traffic, the steering is light and effortless. While the steering sensitivity adjusts automatically depending on your car’s speed, you can choose in the SENSUS screen between three levels of overall steering sensitivity – for low steering effort, medium or high.
    • Power Parking Brake (PPB)
      • The Power Parking Brake (PPB) makes moving off from steep gradients easier. Just press the PPB button, engage DRIVE or your first gear and pull away. The PPB will release automatically.

    Communication

    • Bluetooth® handsfree system, integrated
      • Want to access your mobile phone while you’re on the road to find an address, lay out a route in the navigation system and call ahead that you’re on your way? The on-board Bluetooth® technology lets you do all this wirelessly through the infotainment system – and play some music along the way. Once configured for a mobile phone, the system automatically recognises your phone as you enter the car. And as you get in and out of the car, the system automatically allows you to switch freely from the phone to the handsfree system and back again. The audio systems High Performance, High Performance Multi Media and Premium Sound Multi Media include an integrated Bluetooth® handsfree system, allowing you to operate your phone conveniently using the buttons on the steering wheel or the centre console keypad. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners.
    • Road and Traffic Information (RTI)
      • Volvo’s GPS-based RTI navigation system is totally integrated with your car. It offers both spoken directions and graphic navigation. Via TMC (Traffic Message Channel) radio data broadcasts, RTI also lets you know if there are traffic obstacles en route and recommends an alternative. The RTI utilises the integrated 7-inch driver’s information display and is easily controlled from the steering wheel or a remote – you can keep both hands on the steering wheel and your attention on traffic. In some areas you can also set your destination using voice control. Extremely swift and precise, the RTI features a hard disk drive containing maps for major parts of Europe. To help you keep track of new roads and points of interest, you can join our MapCare programme for two free map updates. Only available in combination with High Performance Multi Media or Premium Sound Multi Media.

    Entertainment

    • Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) dual screen
      • For more fun on long journeys, the remote-controlled RSE system will entertain for hours. Dual 7-inch screens are smartly integrated in the front head restraints and the system is fully integrated with the in-car Multi Media technology. The passengers can see the same movie or play the same game on both screens, or choose to view a film on one screen and play games on the other. Sound is provided via the car’s audio system or headphones. The RSE system can be controlled from both the rear and front seats. External players, USB units and game consoles are easily connected via outlets in the front centre armrest. By adding digital TV, rear seat passengers can also watch terrestrial TV on the move. The RSE dual screen system is only available in combination with High Performance Multi Media or Premium Sound Multi Media.
  • Load compartment

    • Folding two-split 60/40 rear seat
      • If you have a lot of luggage or bulky goods to transport, you can fold down one or both of the split-folding rear backrests. And for that trip to the slopes, just open the ski hatch in the middle of the rear backrest to stow your gear.
    • Grocery bag holder
      • Folds up from the load compartment floor to accommodate shopping bags or other cargo – secure with hooks and an elastic strap. When not in use, it's hidden in the floor.
    • Load hatch, rear seat
      • The load hatch accommodates long and awkward items, such as skis, which can be placed through the hatch between the rear seats.

    Towing

    • Automatic levelling
      • When you tow or carry a heavy load, automatic levelling adjusts the rear suspension so the vehicle will maintain stability, as well as the correct ground clearance and headlight angle.
  • Engines

    • Six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (T6 AWD)
      • Enjoy the refined smoothness and exciting dynamics of a powerful in-line six-cylinder petrol engine. Our 3.0-litre T6 features a twin-scroll turbo, which mimics the effect of two sequential turbochargers in a lighter more efficient package. It minimises ‘turbo lag’ for instantly responsive performance at all revs, while also increasing fuel efficiency. The relaxed big-displacement feel of the T6 is partly down to its impressive maximum torque of 440Nm, which is available from a low 2100rpm. This engine majors on both performance and refinement, while smart technology such as engine braking energy regeneration delivers excellent fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. For an even more enthusiast-oriented and safe driving experience in all weather conditions, this engine is mated to Volvo’s All-Wheel Drive with Instant Traction™ and a six-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox with a sport mode, a manual mode and a gearshifter in all-new piano black finish with white lettering. Finally, with the Volvo-approved Polestar software, you can give your T6 even more of a performance boost.

    Transmission

    • Six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission
      • Wouldn’t it be nice to have a car that’s just as much at home towing a caravan or negotiating heavy traffic as it is taking on a challenging open road? Well, you can. With the six-speed Geartronic you stay in control in all conditions. With an all-new gearshifter in piano black finish with white lettering, this is a responsive automatic that can instantly switch to manual mode when you need it. Depending on engine, the Geartronic transmission also features a sport mode for more active driving – when it is activated, the gearbox reacts more urgently to throttle inputs and allows the engine higher revs during acceleration.
    • Gearshift paddles
      • If you enjoy driving, our new gearshift paddles for the automatic transmission will add even more fun behind the steering wheel. They offer faster and more precise manual gear changes. And by allowing you to keep your hands on the steering wheel, they also ensure you’re always 100 per cent in control of your car. (Only in combination with a 3-spoke steering wheel)
    • Engine braking energy regeneration
      • Take advantage of energy. Every time you release the accelerator while a gear is engaged, the engine braking energy that otherwise would be wasted is fed back to the battery. This reduces the average load of the alternator and results in 2-3 per cent lower fuel consumption – a valuable contribution to fuel economy and lower CO₂ emissions.
    • All-wheel Drive
      • The advanced AWD technology with Instant Traction™ helps increase driving stability and traction on all road surfaces, in all weather conditions. It has an electronic management system that constantly monitors the speed of the wheels, the throttle, engine torque, engine speed and the brakes. As driving conditions change, wheels with the best grip get the most power. When a tyre loses traction, power is reduced to that wheel and instantly transferred to the more sure-footed wheels.

    Chassis & Steering

    • Chassis
      • Over the lifetime of your Volvo, you’ll encounter smooth, fast motorways, secondary roads with potholes and frost heaves, corrugated rough gravel roads and tight mountain switchbacks. That’s why our engineers spend tens of thousands of hours testing on every imaginable type of road surface (and probably a few you can’t imagine). The result is a sophisticated suspension set-up that can deal with the worst you can throw at it, but not at the expense of great handling and a fine ride quality. The suspension can do its best work, too, because of your Volvo’s rigid body and low centre of gravity. The front and rear suspension also act in concert to provide stable braking and sharp steering. And when you take a corner, the rear wheels have a slight steering action that prevents any risk of unwanted oversteer. The chassis is available in three varieties: COMFORT CHASSIS that delivers a comfortable yet responsive ride, LOW SPORT CHASSIS for a more dynamic driving experience, and FOUR-C ACTIVE CHASSIS that allows you to switch between different driving modes – Comfort, Sport or Advanced.
    • Sport chassis
      • This optional sport chassis will enhance C30's driving pleasure and inspire you as a driver. Improved body control, quicker and more precise steering result in a flat ride with crisp steering feel and response – without compromising on comfort or load capacity. It lowers the car by 10 mm and includes 30% stiffer springs, specially adapted shock absorbers, stiffer bushings, sport-tuned front and rear anti-roll bars and a higher steering gear ratio. You will enjoy curvy roads like you have never done before. Fun-to-drive reaches a new level.
    • Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept)
      • The Four-C active chassis provides a choice of three distinctive driving modes – Comfort, Sport or Advanced. Whichever you choose, this technology monitors the car, road and driver 500 times per second, simultaneously adjusting each shock absorber to maintain optimal handling. At the heart of Four-C is a high-tech electronic management system, which continuously controls the four Monroe-Öhlins shock absorbers and interacts with the DSTC system, engine, brakes and steering to enhance your chosen handling style.
    • Automatic levelling
      • When you tow or carry a heavy load, automatic levelling adjusts the rear suspension so the vehicle will maintain stability, as well as the correct ground clearance and headlight angle.
  • Inside

    • Cabin filter
      • Preventing dust and pollen from entering the cabin via the ventilation system, the cabin filter is a real benefit to driver and passengers, especially those prone to hay fever or other allergies.
    • FSC certified interior wood trim
      • Choosing the Nordic Light Oak trim you can be confident that the wood in the interior trim comes from responsibly managed forests and is certified according to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

    Outside

    • LED dayrunning lights
      • Automatically activated during daylight, these energy efficient LED lights make your car more conspicuous. And when the dipped headlights are needed for illumination, they are automatically engaged by a twilight sensor. What’s more, the spoiler integrated LED lights also add to the distinct styling of your Volvo.
    • Fuel-saving design
      • Better design really can make a difference. To reduce energy losses from wind and rolling resistance, we use advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and low friction technology. Together with our state-of-the-art engines, this adds up to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for your car.
    • Advanced petrol engine emission control and diesel particulate filter
      • Going into action quickly after a cold start, Volvo’s advanced emission control eliminates between 95 and 99 per cent of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from petrol engine exhaust gases. And Volvo turbodiesels feature a particulate filter that removes about 95 per cent of the particles from diesel exhaust gases.
    • Clean colours
      • To reduce usage of environmentally hazardous solvents, all Volvo exterior colours are water-based. What’s more, our painting facilities are among the cleanest in the world.
    • 85% recyclable
      • To help minimise our cars’ total environmental impact, every Volvo is designed to aid the recovery and recycling process at the end of its useful life.
