FEATURES & OPTIONS

Add something extra

  • Safety Comfort Tech & Sound Pack & Load Performance Environment
  • IntelliSafe Standard

    • Reinforced passenger compartment
      • Wherever you go in your Volvo, you and your passengers are surrounded by a strong protective steel cage. And that it’s reinforced with one of the strongest steel types available – hot formed boron steel. In a collision, the front and rear crumple zones help to dissipate the energy of the crash to reduce the impact on those inside the car, while in a side-on impact, our SIPS™ side impact protection system distributes the crash force across a large portion of the car’s body to further reduce your risk of injury. And to further help protect passengers, there is a steel cross-member under the dashboard.
    • Inflatable Curtain
      • In a frontal offset or side-on collision, the Inflatable Curtain helps protect the heads of both front and rear passengers who are sitting on the sides. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts. And in Volvos equipped with integrated booster seats, the Inflatable Curtain has been extended downward to improve head protection for smaller or younger children.
    • Energy-absorbing frontal structure
      • The unique geometry of the frontal structure and longitudinal steel struts in the doors help disperse crash energy away from the front to the rear of the car, reducing impact effects on driver and passengers. And further adding to your protection, the compact, transversely mounted engine installation allows maximum space for deformation and energy dispersion.
    • Safety belts with pretensioners and load limiters
      • Safety belts are the first line of defence when it comes to help protecting people during a crash. That’s why we introduced them in 1959. We also invented the audible and visual safety belt reminder and today, everybody in the car is reminded to fasten their safety belts before moving off. And in the information display on the instrument panel, you can check that the rear seat passengers have all fastened their safety belts and that nobody unfastens them during the trip. Pretensioners activate to tighten the belts within fractions of a second in the event of a collision. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled fashion.
    • Pre-prepared restraints
      • Your Volvo can sense an impending collision and prepare the car's restraint systems to help provide optimal protection. Using advanced sensors, the car scans the road ahead and if the system spots an obstacle that could result in a collision, it prepares the airbags and safety belts for the expected crash force. This together with a robust body structure gives the best protection in a low or medium-severe frontal collision.
    • City Safety
      • Adding to a relaxed driving experience in for example slow-moving city traffic, our standard-fitted City Safety technology looks out for standstill or slower vehicles ahead and brakes automatically if needed to help you avoid or mitigate a collision. This laser-based technology can sense an impending collision at speeds from 4 km/h up to 50km/h, day and night. In the first instance, City Safety prepares the brakes so that they respond faster when you press the pedal. And if you fail to brake, City Safety will apply the brakes for you and switch off the throttle to lessen the effects of a collision. Even better, if the difference in speed between your car and the one in front is less than 15km/h, City Safety can prevent a collision from happening in the first place. City Safety is activated as soon as you start your car, and ready to assist you in such an eventuality. City Safety is just one element of our complete approach to car safety. We call it IntelliSafe, and it’s a programme targeted at fulfilling our aim to create cars that will help you avoid collisions altogether – it includes such features as Lane Keeping Aid, Collision Warning with full auto brake, BLIS™, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and much more.
    • Protection of unprotected road-users
      • To help reduce the effects from an impact on unprotected road-users, the front of the vehicle is gently rounded, the headlamps are integrated flush with the body, and the bonnet is energy-absorbing to act as a crumple zone.
    • Anti-locking brakes with Hydraulic Brake Assist and Ready Alert Brakes
      • In an emergency situation, the large anti-lock ventilated disc brakes of your Volvo will make all the difference. And if you find yourself travelling down a mountain road with the need to brake often and hard, you’ll welcome our brakes’ resistance to fading. But since there is always a risk of fade, your Volvo is prepared for this, too, with Fading Brake Support. This system gradually builds hydraulic brake pressure so that you always have reassuring pedal feel. But what if you find yourself having to brake in an emergency, and perhaps not applying the necessary pressure to the pedal? Well, we’ve developed Hydraulic Brake Assist, which ensures that maximum braking pressure is applied hydraulically during a panic stop. Likewise, if you suddenly lift off the accelerator or sensors detect an obstacle in front of the car, Ready Alert Brakes instantly move the brake pads closer to the brake discs to reduce the braking distance. And Electronic Brake Distribution ensures that the right amount of braking goes to the front and rear of the your Volvo depending on where the load in the car is distributed and what the road conditions are.
    • Electronic Stability Control
      • One of the most vital safety advances of the past decade, Electronic Stability Control helps minimize the risk of wheel spin and skids at all speeds in all conditions. And helping to minimize understeer at all speeds, it also contributes to safer and more fun cornering characteristics. The system looks at factors like what direction the car is travelling, how fast the wheels are rotating and how much steering lock is applied. Using all this information, Electronic Stability Control can detect a potential skid and take action to prevent it by reducing engine power and/or braking the appropriate wheels. It can also prevent the wheels from locking during engine braking or when changing to a lower gear in slippery conditions, using Engine Drag Control. To further reduce the risk of losing traction in emergency manoeuvres and corner with high lateral forces, the function Advanced Stability Control senses the car's roll movement and lateral acceleration. But Automatic Stability Control is also about giving you a rewarding driving experience, too, so when you’re cornering enthusiastically the car will feel even more dynamically stable. Another feature that means you’ll experience sharper turn-in to corners, less understeer, more powerful acceleration and more fun behind the wheel is our Corner Traction Control with torque vectoring. It works by braking the inside driven wheel if it starts to lose its grip through a corner, while sending the power to the outer wheel instead. Our new Understeer Control Logic is another innovative technology that further helps minimise understeer tendencies for more stable and dynamic cornering. And if you’re in the mood for a bit of performance driving, Electronic Stability Control has a Sport Mode. It cuts out the engine power reducing function and allows a controlled amount of rear wheel slip, as long as it senses that the driver is using the steering wheel and accelerator in a dynamic way and as long as it doesn’t go too far, in which case it will return to the normal Electronic Stability Control-function.
    • Emergency Brake light
      • Our Emergency Brake Light helps alert vehicles approaching from behind if you are forced to panic brake. It works above 50km/h and knows the difference between normal and panic braking. If it is a panic stop, the brake lights will flash at a rate of four times per second, which will telegraph a clear message to following traffic that there’s a potential problem ahead. Once you slow to below 10km/h, the brake lights stop pulsing and your hazard lights take over.
    • SIPS™ side impact protection system
      • We developed our unique SIPS™ side impact protection system to help protect where you and your passengers are most exposed in the event of a side-collision. The steel framework of the car – including the front seat frames – is designed and reinforced to help displace the impact of a side-collision away from the occupants to other parts of the car body and help prevent intrusion into the cabin. The extremely strong side structure contains ultra-high strength steel and softer grades of steel to help withstand a severe side impact – even with a larger vehicle. The Inflatable Curtain for all the outboard occupants and the front seat side airbags interact with the SIPS™ to help provide further protection. In the rear, SIPS™ and the Inflatable Curtain help protect the passengers in the outer rear seats including the third row.
    • Collapsible steering column
      • The steering column is an advanced part of the safety system, with the upper and lower sections giving way in a controlled manner in a frontal impact to help protect the driver.
    • Restraint technologies
      • In a collision, our restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within fractions of a second in the event of a collision or rollover and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to optimise protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the collision. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. Side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries in a side collision. In a collision or rollover, the Inflatable Curtain helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection for subsequent impacts.
    • Side airbags
      • In a side-collision, the side airbags inflate instantly to help protect the chest and hip. The side airbags are located in the ideal spot on the front seatback.
    • Dual-stage airbags, driver and front passenger
      • In a frontal collision, the driver and passenger airbags help protect your head, face and chest. But because no two collisions are the same, the airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the impact. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. And if the impact is low enough that the airbags aren’t needed, the system will just deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary.
    • Head restraints
      • The head restraints of your Volvo help offer outstanding protection regardless of a person’s height, whether they are seated in the front or the rear. And the rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to improve the driver’s rearward visibility. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position. The outer head restraints can fold forward at the press of a button (optional) to further improve rear vision. In the folded position, they too are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position.
    • WHIPS™ whiplash injury protection system
      • Our advanced WHIPS™ whiplash injury protection system incorporates the complete backrests and head restraints to help protect the driver and front seat passenger from whiplash injury if the car is hit from behind. During a rear impact, the WHIPS™ system moves the entire seatback with the passenger or driver while the head restraint remains rigid to support the neck. A unique Volvo design.
    • Anti-submarining protection
      • To help prevent that passengers slide under and out of their safety belts in the event of a big impact, the seats feature anti-submarining guards which are specially shaped panels angled upwards at the forward edge inside the seats.
    • Energy-absorbing interior
      • All the panels and door sides are padded with energy-absorbing materials to help reduce the risk of injury to the car’s passengers.
    • Warning triangle
      • This lightweight wide-angle reflector stands upright to alert other road users even in strong winds and on slippery surfaces. It folds easily and stores in its own case.

    Preventive safety

    • Active Bending Lights with Dual Xenon Technology
      • Journeys after dark have become a lot more enjoyable – and safer – thanks to our Active High Beam, available as an option. With this system, you don’t need to keep flicking between dipped and full beam, which is not only annoying – according to several studies, it’s also a major cause of night-time accidents. Employing camera technology, AHB recognises the headlight beam of on-coming vehicles and automatically shifts between high and low beam to optimise your vision without dazzling other drivers. And because the system is intelligent, the high beam shuts off when you enter a city, but if you drive past an illuminated sign – say a filling station or supermarket – it stays on so you can see what’s coming up. This means you benefit from safety as well as convenience.
    • Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
      • Statistics show that in half of all rear-end collisions the driver at fault doesn’t brake at all. Active at speeds above 4 km/h, our collision avoidance technology can give you audible and visible warnings if you’re too close to a vehicle in front or if there are pedestrians or cyclists in your path. If you don’t react and a collision is imminent, full auto-braking is engaged to help you avoid or mitigate an impact. Within a range of 150 metres, a radar sensor behind the grille continuously monitors the distance to the vehicle driving in front of you and a digital camera behind the windscreen determines what objects are in front of you. During daylight it can also detect standing or moving pedestrians or cyclists. If a pedestrian or a cyclist unexpectedly swerves out in front of your car or if a vehicle suddenly brakes (or is stationary) and Collision Warning senses that a collision is likely to happen, it will prompt you to act with a flashing warning light on the windscreen along with an audible alarm. Moreover, this technology supports driver-initiated braking by pre-charging the brakes to reduce the braking distance. If you don’t react to the warning and a collision is imminent, the car immediately brakes with full braking force.
    • Roll Stability Control (RSC)
      • In the event of an emergency manoeuvre, our Roll Stability Control (RSC) can step in to help prevent the vehicle from rolling over. It features a gyroscopic sensor that registers the vehicle’s lean angle and rollover risk. If required, the Roll Stability Control will cut engine power or brake one or more of the wheels just enough to reduce the centrifugal force and help regain balance.
    • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
      • With our Tyre Pressure Monitoring System you'll be instantly alerted if one of your tyres is low on pressure. Active at 30 km/h or more, it helps increase your safety as well as ensuring maintained comfort and handling characteristics. The system uses sensors mounted in each tyre valve.
    • Inner and outer rear view mirrors with Auto Dim
      • One of the most annoying things about night driving is the blinding glare from other cars’ headlights. Our generously dimensioned door mirrors are made of chromatic glass that automatically dims to diminish glare from traffic behind you. The mirrors use an internal sensor to monitor light conditions and recognise glare from headlights. When this is detected, the inner and outer rear view mirrors will darken simultaneously to the exact degree necessary. Once the source of the glare disappears, the glass returns to its normal state automatically. Other functions include an optional built-in compass in the inner rear view mirror and ground lighting as well as indicators embedded in the sides of the outer mirrors.
    • Active Bending Lights with Dual Xenon Technology
      • You know when you’re driving down a winding country road at night and the headlights don’t quite show you everything coming up around the next bend? We wondered, what if your headlights could swivel like eyes, so your car could help you see around corners? So we developed Active Bending Lights – with motorised lamps that can turn up to 15 degrees in either direction – that follow the way you steer. And by using extra bright Dual Xenon lights (low beam and high beam), you get a 90 per cent boost to your vision round bends at night. This means you can gain a further 45 metres for braking. You can also experience highly effective low-beam illumination on narrow, winding roads and extremely powerful high beams on the motorway – a sensor disengages the adaptive function during daylight to reduce wear. It’s a very clever system, too – depending on the load in the car, the headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road, even during hard acceleration or braking.
    • Side-marker lamps
      • Integrated front and rear side-marker lamps help alert other drivers to your car’s presence.
    • Water-repellent front side windows
      • To provide far better visibility in the rain, your Volvo’s front side windows help repel water as you drive. The hydrophobic surface treatment turns water into small drops that will be blown away by the force of the wind. This also gives you the benefit of less ice or frost in winter conditions. This option is offered in combination with laminated windows.

    Security

    • Alarm
      • The alarm is connected to the doors, bonnet, boot and ignition. It also reacts to movement inside the car or the breaking of a window. A level sensor can be added to deter thieves from jacking up the car to steal your wheels or tow it away.
    • Panic alarm
      • In an emergency, you can use the panic button on the remote control to attract attention. Press and hold the button for at least 3 seconds or press it twice to activate the hazard lights and the horn.
    • Remote-controlled central locking system
      • A touch of a button on the remote control or the optional Personal Car Communicator unlocks the doors and bootlid. Use the personal settings menu to decide if the remote unlocks the driver’s door first, or all doors at the same time. You can also close or open all windows (including the sunroof if you have one) and unlock the boot separately.
    • Automatic door locking
      • To further enhance your personal security, the doors can be set in the information menu to automatically lock the moment you drive away. Alternatively, lock them swiftly from the front seats using the lock button. Lock buttons are also available for the rear seat passengers.
    • Global locking and closing
      • This function allows you to close all windows and lock the car all at once by pressing the button on the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator for two seconds. Alternatively, press the button for two seconds to unlock the car and open all the windows.
    • Immobiliser and theft-protected locks
      • Not only will the door locks withstand most break-in attempts, the electronic immobiliser makes it impossible to start the car without the right remote control. And even if a would-be thief manages to get into the car via a window, the deadlock system makes it impossible to open the doors from the inside.
    • Lockable floor
      • To further foil smash-and-grab burglaries, the closed tailgate – by virtue of its design – overlaps and seals the compartment hidden under the cargo floor. And when you use the private locking function, this area is also rendered inaccessible to others, such as valet car park attendants.
    • Personal Car Communicator with Keyless drive
      • PCC is an advanced remote control that combines ‘keyless drive’ with two-way communication with your Volvo. Keep the PCC with you and the car unlocks automatically as you pull the door handle. Start the engine by pressing a button on the dash, and when you park, lock your car by pressing a button in the door handle. Later in the day, if you’re wondering whether you’ve locked your car, the PCC can tell you by displaying the status that the car was last left in, wherever you are in the world. When you are approaching your car (within a distance of approximately 100 m), the PCC can give you a warning if the car’s alarm has been activated, and an extra visible warning if it’s been activated within the last five minutes. Keep the car key in your pocket or handbag. Using keyless drive technology you can unlock the doors and drive away without using the car key. To start the engine, just turn the starter control in the instrument panel.
    • Approach and Home Safe lighting
      • Activated with the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator, Approach Lighting provides a warm reception on a dark night. This consists of parking lights, interior lights and ground lighting too, if fitted. Home Safe Lighting is activated with the headlight stalk as you leave the car. This feature provides a low beam from the headlight to accompany you to your door, whether you’re returning home or are out on the road.
    • Power retractable door mirrors
      • To protect your door mirrors from damage while the car for example is parked or driving through a car wash, press both buttons for the left and right mirror at the same time to fold them flat against the car. They can also be set to fold or unfold automatically every time you lock or unlock the car. The integrated ground lighting is activated by the approach light button on your remote control, enhancing security as you go to and from your car at night. And to facilitate parking, the door mirrors can tilt automatically (or by the push of a button) when reversing.
    • Laminated windows
      • Extremely tough laminated glass in the side windows and the rear window turns an attempted smash-and-grab into a total waste of time for the would-be thief. It also contributes to a quiet cabin. Additionally, this option includes water-repellent glass in the front side windows for improved visibility in wet weather.
    • Lockable wheel bolts
      • These provide a simple, effective way of reducing the risk of aluminium wheels being stolen. The wheel lock features one uniquely coded socket enabling only you or your dealer technician to remove the wheels.
  • Seats

    • Ergonomically designed seats
      • The seats in your Volvo may well be the most important ones in your life – over the lifetime of your car, you will probably spend thousands of hours sitting on them. That’s why we spent so much time developing their ergonomic sculpted design, firm yet comfortable, with supporting side cushions and ergonomic padding. Indeed, our seats are widely accepted as some of the finest in the car world. They have features like stepless lumbar support in the front seats, which allows for the tiniest degrees of adjustment for the best support for each individual. Add in our wide choice of upholstery materials and designs, and you’ll have a seat you’ll never want to leave.
    • Sport seats
      • Our new sport seats not only look fantastic, they also give you great side support all the way from your thighs to your shoulders – and in typical Volvo fashion you’ll arrive feeling fresh, even after hours of driving.
    • Ambient Light
      • Good lighting is the key to creating the right atmosphere. This is as true in your car as it is in your home. Our optional Ambient Light package illuminates any features you might need to find at night. A sophisticated white glow ensures you’ll never have to fumble in the dark for cupholders or root around blindly in the door pockets. “The overall effect is very warm and cosy, like being in a warm Swedish house on a cold night,” say our designers. The colour theme corresponds beautifully with the backlit white controls in the dash and elsewhere in the car. Even the optional compass in your rear view mirror lights up in the same elegant white tone.
    • Fully adjustable front seats
      • There’s no such thing as a standard-sized Volvo owner. That’s why we’ve taken such care to design seats that can be manually adjusted to fit a huge range of physiques. You can, for example, change the height and the angle of the seat cushion to suit you perfectly and give full under-thigh support, whatever your shape or size. This great adjustability is also optionally available for the passenger seat. To make sure the small of your back is comfortably supported, the lumbar support can be adjusted on each front seat. And the seats slide back and forth over such a large range that even the tallest or shortest drivers will find their perfect driving position.
    • Electrically powered driver seat with remote memory
      • The memory function of the power operated driver seat and door mirrors helps ensure your Volvo is perfectly adjusted to your personal preferences every time you enter the car. Every time you use your remote control for the central locking, the driver seat and door mirrors will automatically adjust to your preferences (you get two remote controls with your Volvo and can order up to four more). Each remote control triggers the corresponding setting from the last time that particular remote control was used. Furthermore, you can save up to three different seat and door mirror settings by using the buttons on the seat. And an electrically adjustable passenger seat is also optionally available.
    • Power operated passenger seat
      • Adding to the comfort and convenience for your front passenger, the power operated front passenger seat cushion and backrest are easily adjusted using the intuitive controls placed on the outside of the seat cushions.
    • R-Design seats
      • Inspired by racing seats, the R-Design seats feature seating surfaces in high-friction durable nubuck textile. Together with the seat's side support, this keeps you firmly in place even during the high lateral g-forces that often comes with inspired driving. Alternatively, the seating surfaces are in genuine nappa leather that have a genuine natural feel that is soft to the touch and adds a luxurious touch to the interior. Contrasting stitching enhances the sculpted seat design. And for the uncompromised sporty touch, sections of the seats are upholstered in perforated leather that also are echoed in the handbrake lever, gearshift gaiter and front centre armrest.
    • Windscreen ticket holder
      • Conveniently positioned on the side of the windscreen, this nifty ticket holder will keep your parking tickets clearly visible and in place.

    Climate

    • CleanZone automatic function
      • To prepare a fresh environment in your new Volvo even on a warm day, the automatic CleanZone function initiates a ventilation cycle, which is triggered when you unlock the car with your remote control. This feature is active on days when it is at least 10°C outside. The automatic CleanZone function also does a great job of venting out allergy and asthma inducing substances, especially gases and smells from new materials in your new car. This automatic function is gradually reduced during the first years of usage to finally be terminated.
    • Interior Air Quality System
      • Our IAQS technology continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
    • Electronic Climate Control
      • Electronic Climate Control (ECC) maintains the cabin temperature you choose and can be set independently for the driver and front passenger. Further contributing to your health and comfort, the system’s humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity in relation to the outside climate.
    • Adjustable rear air vents
      • Air vents that are conveniently located in the door pillars at face level create a comfortable environment for rear seat passengers. They also keep ice and mist off the rear side windows, which makes for a safer journey.
    • Dark tinted rear windows
      • The extra dark tinted glass for the rear windows add to the sophisticated look of your Volvo and help cut glare and keep cabin temperatures down in hot, sunny conditions.
    • Glass sunroof
      • This electrically powered glass sunroof adds a further dimension of airiness and light to the interior. For ventilation, the front section can be opened at the push of a button, either by sliding it at the rear, or by tilting it in the rear end. A wind deflector and sealing at the sides effectively eliminate wind buffeting and draft. To help maintain climate comfort on sunny days, there's a sunshade in perforated textile that reduces heat and glare while keeping the airy feel inside the cabin. Dark tinted laminated glass further increases your climate comfort and security. It also helps protect from UV radiation. And if you've forgot to close the sunroof after you've parked your car, it can be closed from the outside with the remote control.

    Storage

    • Versatile front centre armrest
      • The centre console of your Volvo’s cabin is a versatile space with useful storage under the armrest, as well as recesses for smaller items. The armrest also features an AUX input and – depending on your choice of audio system – a USB port to connect your MP3 player or mobile phone to the car’s audio system. Folding back the upper part of the armrest will provide a convenient table for the rear seat passengers.
  • Driver's support

    • Sensus Navigation
      • With Sensus Navigation, you have all navigation facilities smartly integrated in your Volvo. For your safety, the system is easy to use without taking your attention from traffic. Sensus Navigation connects seamlessly with our cloud-based services and navigation apps. To mention a few examples, these apps can help you find and pay for parking, share your location with friends or simply find the best coffee in town. • Driver display, digital
      • What kind of driver are you? The answer can change from day to day. Sometimes you want an active driving experience, at others you just want to cruise. The Adaptive Digital Display instrument option offers three set-ups – Elegance, Eco and Performance. They allow you to change the way you receive information according to your mood and driving style. Elegance with it’s black colour theme is the default mode, showing current and average speed, current and average fuel consumption, distance to empty tank, time and outdoor temperature. It also shows engine temperature and revs, and keeps you informed about your Adaptive Cruise Control status. Another feature, Road Sign Information, displays a small symbol showing the current speed limit and overtaking rules. In a really smart move, your satnav directions pop up in the middle of the display so you don’t have to move your eyes between two screens. The Eco mode has a green colour theme and is all about encouraging and rewarding a fuel-efficient driving style. Of course, you still get the benefit of satnav directions and Road Sign Information. The Performance mode is in a striking red, and gives you a large rev counter with your speed in a digital readout in the centre. On the right, a power meter shows how much engine power is available, which is a useful tool for overtaking. You can also opt for the standard Analogue Instrument Cluster with a single large dial and two complementary instruments on either side.
    • Adaptive Digital Display, without chromed ring
      • With the high resolution digital instrument cluster you easily adapt the instrument layout and interface to your driving desires. You have three displays to switch between – Elegance, Eco and Performance.
    • Cruise control
      • Conveniently operated from the steering wheel, cruise control allows you to drive in a more relaxed way without having to keep your foot on the accelerator. The car maintains the speed you choose until you turn off the cruise control or press the brake, accelerator or clutch. After braking or using the clutch, the car returns to its previous cruising speed at the touch of a button. After accelerating – for instance to overtake – your car automatically reverts to its previous cruising speed once you release the accelerator.
    • Trip computer
      • Operated via the indicator stalk, the trip computer shows current and average fuel consumption, how far the fuel will take you and average speed – helping you drive more economically.
    • Park assist sensors, rear
      • Activated when you reverse, rear park assist sensors help you when manoeuvring into tight spaces. The audio system is turned down and a pulsating sound from the rear loudspeakers increases in frequency as the car gets closer to the obstacle, becoming a continuous tone when it’s time to stop. The centre console display screen shows a top view of the car and the activated sensors.
    • Park assist sensors, rear and front
      • Activated when you reverse, rear park assist sensors help you when manoeuvring into tight spaces. The audio system is turned down and a pulsating sound from the rear loudspeakers increases in frequency as the car gets closer to the obstacle, becoming a continuous tone when it’s time to stop. Front park assist sensors perform a similar function at the front of the vehicle – alerting you via the front loudspeakers. The centre console display screen shows a top view of the car and the activated sensors.
    • Electrically powered foldable rear head restraints
      • The outer head restraints can be folded forward so they don’t block your field of vision when the rear seats are unoccupied. In the folded position, they are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position. The rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to further improve rear vision. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position.
    • Rain sensor
      • Once activated, the rain sensor can start the windscreen wipers as soon as it begins to rain or if water splashes onto the windscreen. For your convenience, it can also automatically adapt the intermittent windscreen-wiper function. Its sensitivity can be adjusted via a ring on the wiper stalk.
    • Daytime Running Lights with daylight sensor
      • With the light switch in the Auto position, the fuel-saving Daytime Running Lights are automatically activated. If the daylight becomes to dim, or if you enter a tunnel for example, a sensor will detect the changed light conditions and activate your car's headlights. They will also be activated if you turn on the windscreen wipers or the rear fog light. The system will turn the headlights automatically as well.
    • Multifunctional door mirrors
      • The generously dimensioned door mirrors are power operated using a joystick in the driver's door panel. Indicators are embedded in the sides of the mirror – a nudge of the indicator stalk will activate three flashes of the indicator light, so there's less risk your turn will go unannounced. To further enhance your safety and comfort, there are options such as power folding, ground lighting and our BLIS™ blind spot information system.
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror
      • Ending the need to take your hand off the steering wheel and stop headlight beams shining in your eyes, the anti-dazzle function is stepless and returns to normal when it's no longer needed.
    • Auto-dimming door mirrors with ground lighting
      • To help you negotiate those tight parking spots, your Volvo has electrically foldable door mirrors. And to make sure that a following car’s headlights don’t dazzle you, an auto-dimming function reduces intrusive light reflection. The door mirror auto-dimming function uses the same sensor located in your interior rearview mirror, which also dims when a following car’s headlights are too bright. This makes your journey safer and more relaxing at night. A handy light in each door mirror illuminates the ground beneath the front doors as you approach the car, which means you’ll see puddles and potential problems well in advance. The light also gives you extra security at night, especially in dark parking areas.
    • Illuminated vanity mirror
      • Fitted in the sun visor, lights come on when you open the vanity mirror cover – convenient and practical. Available for both the driver and front passenger.
    • Power windows, front and rear
      • The power windows have controls conveniently located in the door armrests. The front windows can be lowered or raised with a quick press or pull of a button, and you can lock the back windows from the driver’s seat if you’re travelling with small children. In this case, you’ll also be glad of the automatic anti-clamp protection, which will stop a window from closing on a trapped little hand.
    • Interior lighting
      • An entry light on both the driver and front passenger side lights the foot-well area as you get into the car. Front reading lamps are integrated in the roof console. The rear seat reading lamps are recessed in the roof and shaded to avoid dazzling the driver. The interior light will fade out gradually after the doors have been closed, but will switch off immediately if the ignition is turned on or the doors are locked.
    • Speed-dependent power steering
      • The optional speed-dependent and progressive power steering uses sophisticated, speed-sensitive technology to regulate the amount of power assistance you need while driving. At highway speeds, the steering is firm and positive. When parking or in slow traffic, the steering is light and effortless. While the steering sensitivity adjusts automatically depending on your car’s speed, you can choose in the centre display between three levels of overall steering sensitivity – for low steering effort, medium or high.
    • Power Parking Brake (PPB)
      • The Power Parking Brake (PPB) makes moving off from steep gradients easier. Just press the PPB button, engage DRIVE or your first gear and pull away. The PPB will release automatically.
    • Headlamp level adjuster
      • The headlamp level adjuster allows the driver to lower or raise the angle of the headlight beam by turning a dial on the instrument panel. This is particularly useful when driving at night with a full load. Applies only to halogen headlamps; the LED headlamps adjust automatically.
    • Extra power outlet
      • Neatly integrated at the rear end of the tunnel console, the extra power outlet can provide electricity for a phone charger, laptop, game console, DVD player or other portable electronic devices.

    Communication

    • Bluetooth® handsfree system, integrated
      • Want to access your mobile phone while you’re on the road to find an address, lay out a route in the navigation system and call ahead that you’re on your way? The on-board Bluetooth® technology lets you do all this wirelessly through the infotainment system – and play some music along the way. Once configured for a mobile phone, the system automatically recognises your phone as you enter the car. And as you get in and out of the car, the system automatically allows you to switch freely from the phone to the handsfree system and back again. The audio systems High Performance and Premium Sound by Harman Kardon include an integrated Bluetooth® handsfree system, allowing you to operate your phone conveniently using the buttons on the steering wheel or the centre console keypad. Phone information is shown on the centre console multimedia display. And if you’ve chosen Sensus Navigation system, you can make your calls using voice control. What’s more, you can stream high quality audio from a media player and listen to it through the car’s audio system. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Volvo Car Corporation is under licence. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners.

  • Transmission

    • Eight-speed Geartronic™ automatic transmission
      • Do you want an intuitive, responsive powertrain that feels like an extension of your senses? Mated to our all-new generation turbocharged four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains, this eight-speed automatic transmission ensures you're always in the right gear – whether it's for optimal engine response and driveability, or for a smooth driving experience with the highest fuel-efficiency. And offering faster and more precise gear changes in the manual mode, our gearshift paddles will add even more fun behind the steering wheel.
    • Stop/Start technology
      • To further reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 8% when driving in the city, all engines feature our Stop/Start technology. Once the engine is warmed up and the car comes to a standstill (for example at a traffic light) where you put the gear in neutral and release the clutch, the engine automatically shuts off. And instantly as you press the clutch pedal, the engine restarts and you’re on the go. If your Volvo features a Geartronic™ automatic transmission, the engine automatically shuts off when you bring the car to a halt and restarts the instant you press the accelerator. An extra battery ensures that all infotainment and comfort systems will function as usual even with the engine shut off. The Stop/Start system can be deactivated with a push of a button in the centre console and is active between 0° and 30° C.
    • Hill Start Assist
      • Hill Start Assist automatically keeps the brake pressure while you move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator, so you’ll never slide backwards or stall your engine again when driving off up an incline. Hill Start Assist also works in reverse gear.

    Chassis & Steering

    • Chassis
      • The chassis of your XC60 has been tuned for a very comfortable ride, but not at the expense of sporty and well-balanced handling. The advanced multi-link rear and MacPherson front suspension mounted on a rigid body give you a sense of control and confidence on the road. Very generous ground clearance (230mm) and short overhangs contribute to an excellent performance on rough roads with a great ability to go off-road, too.
    • Sports chassis
      • This chassis lowers the car by 10 mm for a sportier look and ride. The lower centre of gravity together with firmer shock absorbers and springs further improves roadholding, traction and road control when cornering – for your enjoyment and feeling of dynamic control in all situations.
  • Inside

    • Interior Air Quality System
      • Our IAQS technology continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
