FEATURES & OPTIONS

Add something extra

  • Safety Comfort Tech & Sound Performance Environment
  • Preventive safety

    • City Safety
      • We know that you want to a avoid collisions under all circumstances, also at low speeds. And it only takes a moment’s distraction in a busy city centre to find yourself in just such a scenario. So we wondered whether it would be possible for your Volvo to lend a helping hand. Well, that’s exactly what City Safety is all about, a laser-based technology that can sense an impending collision at speeds of up to 50km/h. In the first instance, City Safety prepares the brakes so that they respond faster when you press the pedal. And if you fail to brake, City Safety will apply the brakes for you and switch off the throttle to lessen the effects of a collision. Even better, if the difference in speed between your car and the one in front is less than 15km/h, City Safety can prevent a collision from happening in the first place. City Safety is activated as soon as you start your car, and ready to assist you in such an eventuality. City Safety is just one element of our complete approach to car safety. We call it IntelliSafe, and it’s a programme targeted at fulfilling our aim to create cars that will help you avoid collisions altogether – it includes such features as Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and much more.
    • Driver Support Package
      • Wouldn’t it be great if your car could help you avoid collisions, spot wayward pedestrians, read road signs and warn you if, for example, you’re exceeding the speed limit? Imagine if your car could even sense you getting tired or distracted as you drive, and then give you a gentle warning. It’s not science fiction, it’s our Driver Support Package and it will help keep you safer and give you a more rewarding driving experience. As well as the features mentioned, the Package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (at all speeds), Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Driver Alert Control (DAC), Lane Keeping Aid (LKA), Active High Beam (AHB), Road Sign Information (RSI), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA).
    • Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
      • Statistics show that in half of all rear-end collisions the driver at fault doesn’t brake at all. Active at speeds above 4 km/h, our collision avoidance technology can give you audible and visible warnings if you’re too close to a vehicle in front or if there are pedestrians or cyclists in your path. If you don’t react and a collision is imminent, full auto-braking is engaged to help you avoid or mitigate an impact. Within a range of 150 metres, a radar sensor behind the grille continuously monitors the distance to the vehicle driving in front of you and a digital camera behind the windscreen determines what objects are in front of you. During daylight it can also detect standing or moving pedestrians or cyclists. If a pedestrian or a cyclist unexpectedly swerves out in front of your car or if a vehicle suddenly brakes (or is stationary) and Collision Warning senses that a collision is likely to happen, it will prompt you to act with a flashing warning light on the windscreen along with an audible alarm. Moreover, this technology supports driver-initiated braking by pre-charging the brakes to reduce the braking distance. If you don’t react to the warning and a collision is imminent, the car immediately brakes with full braking force.
    • Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)
      • By helping to prevent fishtails, spinouts and rollovers, stability control technology like DSTC has been described as one of the most vital safety advances of the past decade. At the core of DSTC, sensors register the car’s direction and roll rate. The system compares these with steering wheel movements as well as the actual rotation of the car’s wheels. DSTC is able to detect a potential skid and help counteract one by reducing the engine’s power output or braking on one or more wheels. Further developed in the XC60, this technology also adds to stability in dynamic driving where the vehicle is exposed to high lateral forces.
    • Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS)
      • To help avoid distractions during critical driving situations, IDIS constantly analyses your driving and will delay secondary information from the car or one of its on-board systems when it detects intense steering, braking or acceleration. As soon as things calm down, the phone call or the delayed information is presented. IDIS can be set up to let phone calls through in all driving situations.
    • Anti-locking brakes with Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA)
      • The anti-locking disc brakes are designed for optimal performance even during repetitive and intensive use. You can brake as hard as you like as you steer clear of trouble. EBA detects an attempted emergency braking and, when necessary, provides added assistance to bring the car to a standstill in the shortest possible distance. Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) distributes the braking effect between the front and rear wheels to achieve optimal results according to load and driving conditions.
    • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
      • Imagine that you’re in the passing lane on a high-speed motorway. Your car starts to weave; at first you’re baffled and then it dawns on you. One of your rear tyres is dangerously low on pressure – with any luck, you’ll make it safely to the hard shoulder. It’s a terrifying scenario, and one of the reasons why we developed our tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which uses sensors mounted in each tyre valve. If you’re travelling at 30km/h or more and any one of your tyres is underinflated you’ll get plenty of warning.
    • Dual Xenon lights
      • For even better night vision, there’s the option of Dual Xenon gas discharge lamps. Compared to conventional halogen headlamps, Dual Xenon headlights expand your vision range by about 230%. This means you’ll gain a further 45 metres for braking. Independent of the load, these headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road – even during hard acceleration or braking.
    • Volvo Full-LED Active Beam
      • Journeys after dark have just become a lot more enjoyable – and safer – thanks to our new Full-LED Active Beam, available as an option. Advanced LED light technology allows a supremely wide and long light pattern – the light is more than twice as strong as conventional halogen lights. And helping you to see around corners at night, the lights turn up to 30 degrees in either direction with the steering. And with this system, you don’t need to keep flicking between low and high beam*, which is not only annoying – according to several studies, it’s also a major cause of night-time accidents. With our new system, your headlights stay on high beam all the time. When another car approaches from the opposite direction, the system prevents dazzling the other driver by shading out only as much of your beam as necessary – no more, no less. Still, the LED headlights will illuminate the areas around the other car with high beam. The same applies to cars in front of you. The system can even recognise pedestrians and cyclists and avoids dazzling them, too – it can keep track of ten separate objects at the same time. And because the system is intelligent, the high beam shuts off when you enter a city, but if you drive past an illuminated sign – say a filling station or supermarket – it stays on so you can see what’s coming up. This means you benefit from safety as well as convenience. During daytime, the distinctive hammer shaped light-guides not only act as daytime running lights to make your car more conspicuous – they also flash in a warm colour when indicating. And when the dipped headlights are needed for illumination, they are automatically engaged by a twilight sensor. Contributing to improved fuel economy and lower running costs, the LED lights are extremely energy efficient and last the lifetime of the car without losing any luminance. *Applies for Full-LED Active Beam technology. Cars with halogen lights shift automatically between high and low beam.
    • Active Bending Lights (ABL) with Dual Xenon Technology
      • You know when you’re driving down a winding country road at night and the headlights don’t quite show you everything coming up around the next bend? We wondered, what if your headlights could swivel like eyes, so your car could help you see around corners? So we developed Active Bending Lights – with motorised lamps that can turn up to 15 degrees in either direction – that follow the way you steer. And by using extra bright Dual Xenon lights (low beam and high beam), you get a 90 per cent boost to your vision round bends at night. This means you can gain a further 45 metres for braking. You can also experience highly effective low-beam illumination on narrow, winding roads and extremely powerful high beams on the motorway – a sensor disengages the adaptive function during daylight to reduce wear. It’s a very clever system, too – depending on the load in the car, the headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road, even during hard acceleration or braking.
    • Cornering Light
      • At speeds of up to 30 km/h, the optional Cornering Light illuminates the area in which you’re turning at up to 15 degrees around the car for safer manoeuvring – for instance if you’re turning into a small road or driving through a narrow gateway at night.
    • Active High Beam (AHB)
      • Journeys after dark have just become a lot more enjoyable – and safer – thanks to our new Active High Beam, available as an option. With this system, you don’t need to keep flicking between low and high beam*, which is not only annoying – according to several studies, it’s also a major cause of night-time accidents. With our new system, your headlights stay on high beam all the time. When another car approaches from the opposite direction, the system prevents dazzling the other driver by shading out only as much of your beam as necessary – no more, no less. *Applies for ABL with Dual Xenon Technology. Cars with halogen lights shift automatically between high and low beam.
    • Inner and outer rear view mirrors with Auto Dim
      • One of the most annoying things about night driving is the blinding glare from other cars’ headlights. Our generously dimensioned door mirrors are made of chromatic glass that automatically dims to diminish glare from traffic behind you. The mirrors use an internal sensor to monitor light conditions and recognise glare from headlights. When this is detected, the inner and outer rear view mirrors will darken simultaneously to the exact degree necessary. Once the source of the glare disappears, the glass returns to its normal state automatically. Other functions include an optional built-in compass in the inner rear view mirror and ground lighting as well as indicators embedded in the sides of the outer mirrors.
    • LED dayrunning lights
      • Automatically activated during daylight, these energy efficient LED lights make your car more conspicuous. And when the dipped headlights are needed for illumination, they are automatically engaged by a twilight sensor. What’s more, the spoiler integrated LED lights also add to the distinct styling of your Volvo.
    • Side-marker lamps
      • Integrated front and rear side-marker lamps help alert other drivers to your car’s presence.
    • Emergency Brake light (EBL)
      • We’ve all been on the motorway when the car in front unexpectedly brakes hard and then you have to brake even harder, while praying that the car behind you reacts in time. Wouldn’t you like to have some way of making sure traffic behind knows there’s a problem? Well, that’s our Emergency Brake Light, which works above 50km/h and knows the difference between normal and panic braking. If it is a panic stop, the brake lights will flash at a rate of four times per second, which will telegraph a clear message to following traffic that there’s a potential problem ahead. Once you slow to below 10km/h, the brake lights stop pulsing and your hazard lights take over.
    • Adaptive brake light
      • Active at speeds above 50 km/h, the adaptive brake light can sense the difference between normal and panic braking. If there is a panic situation, all the brake lights will flash at a rate of four times per second. Once your speed slows to below 10 km/h, the lights stop flashing and hazard lights flash instead. As a result of using LED technology that needs less time to light up than regular bulbs, traffic behind you can react sooner.
    • Water-repellent front side windows
      • To provide far better visibility in the rain, your Volvo’s front side windows help repel water as you drive. The hydrophobic surface treatment turns water into small drops that will be blown away by the force of the wind. This also gives you the benefit of less ice or frost in winter conditions. This option is offered in combination with laminated windows.
    • Fog lamp with cornering function
      • At speeds of up to 40 km/h, the optional fog lamp with cornering function illuminates the area in which you’re turning at up to 15 degrees around the car for safer manoeuvring – for instance if you’re parking, turning into a small road or driving through a narrow gateway at night. And to enhance your control during reversing in the dark, the cornering light activates on both sides to illuminate the area around your car.

    Protective safety

    • Reinforced passenger compartment
      • Imagine the peace of mind you and your passengers will have knowing that a strong protective steel cage surrounds you. And that it’s reinforced with one of the strongest steel types available – boron steel. In a collision, the front and rear crumple zones help to dissipate the energy of the crash to reduce the impact on those inside the car, while in a side-on impact, our Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS) distributes the crash force across a large portion of the car’s body to further reduce your risk of injury. And to further help protect passengers, there is a steel cross-member under the dashboard.
    • Energy-absorbing frontal structure
      • The unique geometry of the frontal structure and longitudinal steel struts in the doors help disperse crash energy away from the front to the rear of the car, reducing impact effects on driver and passengers. The fact that all Volvos have transversely mounted, compact in-line engines, results in maximum space for deformation and energy dispersion.
    • Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)
      • We believe that the car should bear the brunt of any collision, not the people inside it. That’s why we’ve developed our cars so that they offer legendary protection, not just from front and rear impacts, but also from side-on collisions. The steel framework of the car – and that includes the front seat frames – has been designed to help displace the impact of a side-on collision away from the people inside and prevent intrusion into the cabin. And because we understand that an impact with a larger vehicle is a possibility on busy roads, the extremely strong side structure contains ultra-high strength steel to help withstand a severe impact. We have even taken into account the side windows – the Inflatable Curtain (IC) works in conjunction with SIPS and the side airbags to protect people in the front seats. In the rear, SIPS and the IC protect the passengers in the outer rear seat.
    • Restraint technologies
      • In a collision, Volvo’s restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within fractions of a second in the event of a collision or rollover and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to optimise protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the collision. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. Side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries in a side collision. In a collision or rollover, the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection for subsequent impacts.
    • Safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters
      • Safety belts are the first line of defence when it comes to help protecting people during a crash. That’s why we introduced them in 1959. We also invented the audible and visual safety belt reminder and today, everybody in the car is reminded to fasten their safety belts before moving off. And in the information display on the instrument panel, you can check that the rear seat passengers have all fastened their safety belts and that nobody unfastens them during the trip. Pre-tensioners activate to tighten the belts within fractions of a second in the event of a collision. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled fashion.
    • Dual-stage airbags, driver and front passenger
      • In a frontal collision, the driver and passenger airbags help protect your head, face and chest. But because no two collisions are the same, the airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the impact. To help minimise the impact on the driver, the driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. And if the impact is low enough that the airbags aren’t needed, the system will just deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary.
    • Passenger airbag cut-off switch
      • The passenger airbag is designed to help protect an adult in a frontal collision in case of collision. But if a child or a person shorter than 140 centimetres is in the front passenger seat, the airbag must first be disengaged to avoid the risk of serious injury. The airbag cut-off switch is positioned on the passenger end of the dashboard and can only be accessed with the door open. When the airbag is switched off (just use the key), you’re notified by a message on the roof console display.
    • Automatic braking after a collision
      • Helping to reduce the risk for more damage and injury after a collision – like hitting other cars or people – your Volvo brakes automatically when the safety belt pre-tensioners or an airbag are activated.
    • Side airbags
      • To help protect the chest and hip during a side-on collision, the side airbags inflate during a side-on impact. They are located in the ideal spot on the front seatback.
    • Inflatable Curtain (IC)
      • In a frontal offset or side-on collision, the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear passengers who are sitting on the sides. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts. And in Volvos equipped with integrated booster seats, the Inflatable Curtain has been extended downward to improve head protection for smaller or younger children.
    • Collapsible steering column
      • The steering column is an advanced part of the safety system, with the upper and lower sections giving way in a controlled manner in a frontal impact to help protect the driver.
    • Pre-prepared restraints
      • Wouldn’t it be great it your car could prepare for the worst? Well, your Volvo can, with another IntelliSafe feature that maximises comfort while quietly and unobtrusively going about the business of safety. Using advanced sensors, the car scans the road ahead and if the system spots an obstacle that could result in a collision, it prepares the airbags and seatbelts for the expected crash force. This together with a robust body structure gives the best protection in a low or medium-severe frontal collision.
    • Energy-absorbing interior
      • All the panels and door sides are padded with energy-absorbing materials to help reduce the risk of injury to the car’s passengers.
    • Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS)
      • It’s something that happens every day in every major city in the world – a moment’s inattention and one driver runs into the back of another. And the result can be long-term injury as a result of whiplash. Volvo, as part of its IntelliSafe programme, has developed a system that can help reduce the risk of long-term injury by as much as 50 per cent. During a rear impact, the WHIPS system moves the entire seatback with the passenger or driver – similar to the way you might gently catch a ball – while the head restraint remains rigid to support the neck. A unique Volvo design.
    • Head restraints
      • We have developed head restraints that offer outstanding protection regardless of a person’s height, whether they are seated in the front or the rear. And the rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to improve the driver’s rearward visibility. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position. The outer head restraints can fold forward at the press of a button (optional) to further improve rear vision. In the folded position, they too are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position.
    • Anti-submarining protection
      • To help prevent that passengers slide under and out of their safety belts in the event of a big impact, the seats feature anti-submarining guards which are specially shaped panels angled upwards at the forward edge inside the seats.
    • Protection of unprotected road-users
      • To help reduce the effects from an impact on unprotected road-users, the front of the vehicle is gently rounded, the headlamps are integrated flush with the body, and the bonnet is energy-absorbing to act as a crumple zone.
    • Lower cross-member
      • To help protect passengers in an oncoming car with bumpers that are lower, there's a cross member integrated low down in the front structure. In an impact, this cross member is designed to help activate the other car’s own crumple zones and other safety features to help reduce the risk of injury. It also works in a side impact with a smaller car.

    Security

    • Alarm
      • The alarm is connected to the doors, bonnet, boot and ignition. It also reacts to movement inside the car or the breaking of a window. A level sensor can be added to deter thieves from jacking up the car to steal your wheels or tow it away.
    • Remote-controlled central locking system
      • A touch of a button on the remote control locks or unlocks the doors, tailgate and glove compartment. Use the personal settings menu to decide if the remote unlocks the driver’s door first, or all doors at the same time. You can also close or open all windows (including the panoramic sunroof if you have one) and unlock the tailgate separately – you can access your load compartment while nobody else can open any of the doors from the outside.
    • Remote-controlled central locking system
      • A touch of a button on the remote control or the optional Personal Car Communicator unlocks the doors and bootlid. Use the personal settings menu to decide if the remote unlocks the driver’s door first, or all doors at the same time. You can also close or open all windows (including the sunroof if you have one) and unlock the boot separately.
    • Automatic door locking
      • To further enhance your personal security, the doors can be set in the information menu to automatically lock the moment you drive away. Alternatively, lock them swiftly from the front seats using the lock button. Lock buttons are also available for the rear seat passengers.
    • Global locking and closing
      • This function allows you to close all windows and lock the car all at once by pressing the button on the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator for two seconds. Alternatively, press the button for two seconds to unlock the car and open all the windows.
    • Keyless start
      • Start your Volvo with your remote control in your pocket. As long as your remote control is inside the car, you can start the engine simply by turning the start knob on the tunnel console while depressing the brake pedal.
    • Keyless locking and unlocking
      • When carrying bags or luggage, it can be very convenient that your Volvo unlocks as soon as you approach your car and pull the door handle. No need to press the remote control button – just keep the remote in your pocket or purse. And to lock the car after you've parked, you just push the button in the door handle. In addition to ordinary remote controls, this feature also includes a very small, waterproof keyless mini remote control you can bring with you everywhere.
    • Immobiliser and theft-protected locks
      • Not only will the door locks withstand most break-in attempts, the electronic immobiliser makes it impossible to start the car without the right key. And even if a would-be thief manages to get into the car via the window, the deadlock system makes it impossible to open the door from the inside.
    • Lockable floor
      • To further foil smash-and-grab burglaries, the closed tailgate – by virtue of its design – overlaps and seals the compartment hidden under the cargo floor. And when you use the private locking function, this area is also rendered inaccessible to others, such as valet car park attendants.
    • Personal Car Communicator (PCC)
      • PCC is an advanced remote control that combines ‘keyless drive’ with two-way communication with your Volvo. Keep the PCC with you and the car unlocks automatically as you pull the door handle. Start the engine by pressing a button on the dash, and when you park, lock your car by pressing a button in the door handle. Later in the day, if you’re wondering whether you’ve locked your car, the PCC can tell you by displaying the status that the car was last left in, wherever you are in the world. When you are approaching your car (within a distance of approximately 100 m), the PCC can give you a warning if the car’s alarm has been activated, and an extra visible warning if it’s been activated within the last five minutes.
    • Keyless drive
      • Keep the car key in your pocket or handbag. Using keyless drive technology you can unlock the doors and drive away without using the car key. To start the engine, just turn the starter control in the instrument panel.
    • Hands-free tailgate opening and closing
      • When your hands are full after shopping, the comfort opening function of your power tailgate can make a big difference: wave your foot under the sensor in the rear bumper, and it opens or closes automatically.
    • Approach and Home Safe lighting
      • Activated with the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator, Approach Lighting provides a warm reception on a dark night. This consists of parking lights, interior lights and ground lighting too, if fitted. Home Safe Lighting is activated with the headlight stalk as you leave the car. This feature provides a low beam from the headlight to accompany you to your door, whether you’re returning home or are out on the road.
    • Welcome and Home Safe light
      • Enhancing security as you go to your car at night, Welcome light provides a warm reception. The parking lights, rear lights, interior lighting and ground lighting in the door handles are turned on for 30 seconds when you unlock your car with the remote control. If a door is opened, it stays on for up to two more minutes. Home Safe light is activated with the headlight stalk as you leave the car. This feature provides a low beam from the headlight to accompany you to your door, whether you’re returning home or are out on the road.
    • Laminated windows
      • Extremely tough laminated glass in the side windows and the rear window turns an attempted smash-and-grab into a total waste of time for the would-be thief. It also contributes to a quiet cabin. Additionally, this option includes water-repellent glass in the front side windows for improved visibility in wet weather.
    • Laminated windows all round
      • A world first for estates, laminated windows are now available for every window. Laminated windows turn an attempted smash-and-grab into a time consuming ordeal. They also enhance the sound comfort in the cabin. Additionally, this option also includes water-repellant glass in the front side windows for improved visibility in wet weather.
    • Ground lighting
      • Integrated in the front door handles, the ground lighting illuminates the area beneath the door handles for a welcoming feel when you approach your car at night. It also makes it easier to locate the door handle and avoid stepping into, for example, an unseen puddle of water. Ground lighting is activated when you unlock your car using the remote control. For your extra convenience, the optional LED ground lighting under the doors further illuminates the area below the open door.
    • Laminated side door windows
      • Extremely tough laminated glass in the side windows turns an attempted smash-and-grab into a total waste of time for the would-be thief. It also contributes to a quiet cabin. Additionally, this option includes water-repellent glass in the front side windows for improved visibility in wet weather.
    • Lockable wheel bolts
      • These provide a simple, effective way of reducing the risk of aluminium wheels being stolen. The wheel lock features one uniquely coded socket enabling only you or your garage technician to remove the wheels.
  • Seats

    • Ergonomically designed seats
      • The seats in your Volvo may well be the most important ones in your life – over the lifetime of your car, you will probably spend thousands of hours sitting on them. That’s why we spent so much time developing their ergonomic sculpted design, firm yet comfortable, with supporting side cushions and ergonomic padding. Indeed, our seats are widely accepted as some of the finest in the car world. They have features like stepless lumbar support in the front seats, which allows for the tiniest degrees of adjustment for the best support for each individual. Add in our wide choice of upholstery materials and designs, and you’ll have a seat you’ll never want to leave.
    • Fully adjustable front seats
      • There’s no such thing as a standard-sized Volvo owner. That’s why we’ve taken such care to design seats that can be manually adjusted to fit a huge range of physiques. You can, for example, change the height and the angle of the seat cushion to suit you perfectly and give full under-thigh support, whatever your shape or size. This great adjustability is also optionally available for the passenger seat. To make sure the small of your back is comfortably supported, the lumbar support can be adjusted on each front seat. And the seats slide back and forth over such a large range that even the tallest or shortest drivers will find their perfect driving position.
    • Power front seats, driver and passenger
      • Find your perfect seat position with push-button ease. Adjust the driver's seat to a position perfect for you and save the settings. Every time you use your central locking remote, the seat will automatically adjust to your preferences. Up to 3 different seat settings can be saved into the memory system that is linked to the central locking remote controls. Each remote triggers the corresponding setting from the last time that particular remote control was used. Power front seats also facilitate entrance in the rear seat – simply lifting a handle will move each front seat forward.
    • Electrically powered seats with remote memory
      • You know how frustrating it is to climb behind the wheel, only to find that a partner or colleague has adjusted the seat and door mirrors to suit their particular physique. That’s why you can electrically adjust the driver’s seat and door mirrors to your perfect position and then your Volvo saves the settings. Every time you use your remote control for the central locking, the seat and door mirrors will automatically adjust to your preferences (you get two remote controls or Personal Car Communicators with your Volvo and can order up to four more). Each remote control triggers the corresponding setting from the last time that particular remote control was used. Furthermore, you can save up to three different seat and door mirror settings by using the buttons on the seat. And an electrically adjustable passenger seat is also optionally available.
    • Heated front seats
      • Essential for those early morning winter starts, you can set the heating to two positions using buttons on the centre console.
    • Windscreen ticket holder
      • No more parking tickets blowing off the dashboard top when you close the car door with Volvo’s nifty windscreen ticket holder.

    Climate

    • AC climate unit
      • Not only does this aircon system keep the cabin cool, its built-in filter also prevents dust, pollen and exhaust particles entering the cabin through the ventilation system. The adjustable ventilation and heating vents in the rear means extra comfort if you're in the back - as well as helping keep ice and mist off the rear side windows.
    • Cabin filter
      • Preventing dust and pollen from entering the cabin via the ventilation system, the cabin filter is a real benefit to driver and passengers, especially those prone to hay fever or other allergies.
    • Electronic Climate Control (ECC)
      • Electronic Climate Control (ECC) maintains the cabin temperature you choose and can be set independently for the driver and front passenger. Further contributing to your health and comfort, the system’s humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity in relation to the outside climate.
    • Interior Air Quality System (IAQS)
      • Volvo’s IAQS continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
    • Clean Zone Interior Package (CZIP)
      • There’s nothing that gets a trip off to a worse start than getting into stuffy car, particularly on a warm day. To prepare a fresh environment in your Volvo, CZIP initiates a ventilation cycle, which is triggered when you unlock the car with your remote control or your Personal Car Communicator. This feature is active on days when it is at least 10°C outside. CZIP also does a great job of venting out allergy and asthma inducing substances.
    • Adjustable rear air vents
      • Air vents that are conveniently located in the door pillars at face level create a comfortable environment for rear seat passengers. They also keep ice and mist off the rear side windows, which makes for a safer journey.
    • Tinted windows
      • Help cut glare and keep cabin temperatures down in hot, sunny conditions.
    • Heat-reflecting windscreen
      • The heat-reflecting windscreen reduces heat radiation from the windscreen and the temperature inside the car by filtering out the sun’s heat-generating invisible infrared rays.
    • Panoramic roof
      • This exclusive panoramic roof will further enhance the experience of air and light for everyone inside the Volvo XC60. The front section can be opened at the push of a button, either by sliding it over the rear part, or by tilting it in the rear end. To help maintain climate comfort on sunny days, there's a power operated roller curtain. Dark tinted laminated glass increases comfort and security. It also helps protect from UV radiation. For safety reasons, the design of the panoramic roof is optimised and the two-piece glass is laminated.
    • Heated windscreen
      • Standing outside your car scraping off the ice on a cold winter’s morning isn’t the best start to your day. Now, thanks to our heated windscreen, all you need to do is push a button. When you do, the windscreen will start de-icing immediately just like the rear window and door mirrors, and you’ll soon be on your way.

    Storage

    • Front cupholders
      • The two cupholders for the driver and front seat passenger are hidden under an elegant roll-top cover and conveniently positioned in the tunnel console. To provide extra storage, the cupholders can be removed.
    • Cupholders, front and rear
      • The two cupholders for the front seat occupants are hidden under an elegant roll-top cover and conveniently positioned in the tunnel console. To provide extra storage, the cupholders can be removed. Alternatively, one of them can be fitted with an ashtray module. And two such cupholders are similarly concealed at the rear of the tunnel console for back seat passengers.
    • Versatile front centre armrest
      • The centre console of your Volvo’s cabin is a versatile space with useful storage under the armrest, as well as recesses for smaller items. The armrest also features an AUX input and – depending on your choice of audio system – a USB port to connect your MP3 player or mobile phone to the car’s audio system. Folding back the upper part of the armrest will provide a convenient table for the rear seat passengers.
  • Driver's support

    • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
      • Helping you to maintain your preset gap to vehicles in front at all speeds up to 200 km/h, the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a supportive partner for a more relaxed driving experience on any journey. Just select the desired speed and the minimum time gap to the vehicle in front. When the radar sensor detects a slower vehicle in front, the speed automatically adapts to that vehicle. And when the road is clear, the car resumes the selected speed. At speeds over 70 km/h ACC also makes overtaking more convenient: simply turning the indicator on, ACC will briefly accelerate your car for a more efficient and fast overtaking. Whenever you want, you can also select conventional cruise control.
    • Trip computer
      • Operated via the indicator stalk, the trip computer shows current and average fuel consumption, how far the fuel will take you and average speed – helping you drive more economically.
*Applies for ABL with Dual Xenon Technology. Cars with halogen lights shift automatically between high and low beam.
    • Cornering Light
      • At speeds of up to 30 km/h, the optional Cornering Light illuminates the area in which you’re turning at up to 15 degrees around the car for safer manoeuvring – for instance if you’re turning into a small road or driving through a narrow gateway at night.
    • Keyless drive
      • Keep the car key in your pocket or handbag. Using keyless drive technology you can unlock the doors and drive away without using the car key. To start the engine, just turn the starter control in the instrument panel.
    • Power parking brake
      • The power parking brake is easily engaged by pulling the control upwards. You can also set the parking brake to engage automatically every time you stop the engine. It is released automatically as soon as you press the accelerator with the transmission in the DRIVE or REVERSE mode – very convenient when moving off from steep gradients. You can also release it manually by pressing the control downwards.
    • Rain sensor
      • Once activated, the rain sensor can start the windscreen wipers as soon as it begins to rain or if water splashes onto the windscreen. For your convenience, it can also automatically adapt the intermittent windscreen-wiper function. Its sensitivity can be adjusted via a ring on the wiper stalk.
    • Multifunctional door mirrors
      • The generously dimensioned door mirrors are power operated using a joystick in the driver's door panel. Indicators are embedded in the sides of the mirror – a nudge of the indicator stalk will activate three flashes of the indicator light, so there's less risk your turn will go unannounced. To further enhance your safety and comfort, there are options such as power folding, ground lighting and Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror
      • Ending the need to take your hand off the steering wheel and stop headlight beams shining in your eyes, the anti-dazzle function is stepless and returns to normal when it's no longer needed.
    • Illuminated vanity mirror
      • Fitted in the sun visor, lights come on when you open the vanity mirror cover – convenient and practical. Available for both the driver and front passenger.
    • Power windows, front and rear
      • The power windows have controls conveniently located in the door armrests. The front windows can be lowered or raised with a quick press or pull of a button, and you can lock the back windows from the driver’s seat if you’re travelling with small children. In this case, you’ll also be glad of the automatic anti-clamp protection, which will stop a window from closing on a trapped little hand.
    • Interior lighting
      • An entry light on both the driver and front passenger side lights the foot-well area as you get into the car. Front reading lamps are integrated in the roof console. The rear seat reading lamps are recessed in the roof and shaded to avoid dazzling the driver. The interior light will fade out gradually after the doors have been closed, but will switch off immediately if the ignition is turned on or the doors are locked.
    • Speed-dependent power steering
      • The optional speed-dependent and progressive power steering uses sophisticated, speed-sensitive technology to regulate the amount of power assistance you need while driving. At highway speeds, the steering is firm and positive. When parking or in slow traffic, the steering is light and effortless. While the steering sensitivity adjusts automatically depending on your car’s speed, you can choose in the SENSUS screen between three levels of overall steering sensitivity – for low steering effort, medium or high.
    • Power Parking Brake (PPB)
      • The Power Parking Brake (PPB) makes moving off from steep gradients easier. Just press the PPB button, engage DRIVE or your first gear and pull away. The PPB will release automatically.
    • Headlamp level adjuster
      • The headlamp level adjuster allows the driver to lower or raise the angle of the headlight beam by turning a dial on the instrument panel. This is particularly useful when driving at night with a full load. Only applies to halogen headlamps; Dual Xenon Active Bending Lights adjust automatically.

    Communication

    • Bluetooth® handsfree system, integrated
      • Want to access your mobile phone while you’re on the road to find an address, lay out a route in the navigation system and call ahead that you’re on your way? The on-board Bluetooth® technology lets you do all this wirelessly through the infotainment system – and play some music along the way. Once configured for a mobile phone, the system automatically recognises your phone as you enter the car. And as you get in and out of the car, the system automatically allows you to switch freely from the phone to the handsfree system and back again. The audio systems High Performance, High Performance Multi Media and Premium Sound Multi Media include an integrated Bluetooth® handsfree system, allowing you to operate your phone conveniently using the buttons on the steering wheel or the centre console keypad. Phone information is shown on the centre console multimedia display. And if you’ve chosen the RTI navigation system, you can make your calls using voice control. What’s more, you can stream high quality audio from a media player and listen to it through the car’s audio system. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Volvo Car Corporation is under licence. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners.
  • Engines

    • Five-cylinder common rail turbodiesel engine (D4)
      • We don’t see why power, refinement, a great driving experience and superb fuel efficiency can’t all be provided by one engine. That’s exactly why we designed this 2.0-litre five-cylinder 163hp turbodiesel. The five-cylinder engine offers smooth running. An impressive amount of torque is available at engine speeds not much above idle, which accounts for its relaxed, flexible and responsive performance. So the driving experience is great, but not at the expense of CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption - a range of technical developments make the D4 one of the most efficient engines in its class. The D4 also features fuel-saving and CO₂-reducing engine braking energy regeneration and Volvo’s Start/Stop technology. The D4 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.
    • Five-cylinder common rail twin-turbodiesel engine (D5/D5 AWD)
      • We engineered this engine for Volvo drivers who desire even more power and performance, but still want the benefits of a refined and fuel-efficient powerplant. This 2.4-litre five-cylinder engine offers smooth running. It also boasts sequential twin turbochargers – a smaller one provides virtually lag-free low-rev response, whilst a larger one comes on line as revs and speed rise. These turbos help deliver flexible and responsive power right across the rev range. And a very generous 440Nm of torque with an automatic gearbox (420Nm with a manual) developed from as low as 1500rpm gives the D5 its relaxed but punchy performance characteristic. That’s quite handy for quick and safe overtaking, especially in the 80-120km/h speed range. So the D5 delivers a great driving experience, but not at the expense of fuel efficiency or CO₂ emissions – with Volvo’s Start/Stop system and fuel-saving and CO₂-reducing engine braking energy regeneration, the D5 with manual transmission is one of the most fuel-efficient and lowest CO₂-emitting powertrains in its class. There are two six-speed gearboxes to choose from: our manual transmission and our Geartronic automatic with sport mode and a manual mode. To boost its driving dynamics even more, you can add All-Wheel Drive with Instant Traction™.

    Transmission

    • Six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission
      • Wouldn’t it be nice to have a car that’s just as much at home towing a caravan or negotiating heavy traffic as it is taking on a challenging open road? Well, you can. With the six-speed Geartronic you stay in control in all conditions. With an all-new gearshifter in piano black finish with white lettering, this is a responsive automatic that can instantly switch to manual mode when you need it. Depending on engine, the Geartronic transmission also features a sport mode for more active driving – when it is activated, the gearbox reacts more urgently to throttle inputs and allows the engine higher revs during acceleration.
    • Eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission
      • Do you want an intuitive, responsive powertrain that feels like an extension of your senses? Mated to our all-new generation turbocharged four-cylinder Drive-E engines, this newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission ensures you're always in the right gear – whether it's for optimal engine response and driveability, or for a smooth driving experience with the highest fuel-efficiency.
    • All-wheel Drive (AWD)
      • The advanced AWD technology with Instant Traction™ helps increase driving stability and traction on all road surfaces, in all weather conditions. It has an electronic management system that constantly monitors the speed of the wheels, the throttle, engine torque, engine speed and the brakes. As driving conditions change, wheels with the best grip get the most power. When a tyre loses traction, power is reduced to that wheel and instantly transferred to the more sure-footed wheels.
    • Hill Descent Control
      • Hill Descent Control offers a smooth and controlled hill descent on steep, rough and slippery roads. Simply push the Hill Descent Control button and the vehicle will descend using the brake system to control each wheel’s rotating speed – you are then free to concentrate fully on steering. Hill Descent Control also makes it easier to move off when towing a heavy trailer or a boat on a trailer up a ramp. The technology also works in reverse gear.

    Chassis & Steering

    • Fuel-saving design
      • Better design really can make a difference. To reduce energy losses from wind and rolling resistance, we use advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and low friction technology. Together with our state-of-the-art engines, this adds up to lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions for your car.
    • Clean colours
      • To reduce usage of environmentally hazardous solvents, all Volvo exterior colours are water-based. What’s more, our painting facilities are among the cleanest in the world.
