    • City Safety
      • We know that you want to a avoid collisions under all circumstances, also at low speeds. And it only takes a moment’s distraction in a busy city centre to find yourself in just such a scenario. So we wondered whether it would be possible for your Volvo to lend a helping hand. Well, that’s exactly what City Safety is all about, a laser-based technology that can sense an impending collision at speeds of up to 50km/h. In the first instance, City Safety prepares the brakes so that they respond faster when you press the pedal. And if you fail to brake, City Safety will apply the brakes for you and switch off the throttle to lessen the effects of a collision. Even better, if the difference in speed between your car and the one in front is less than 15km/h, City Safety can prevent a collision from happening in the first place. City Safety is activated as soon as you start your car, and ready to assist you in such an eventuality. City Safety is just one element of our complete approach to car safety. We call it IntelliSafe, and it’s a programme targeted at fulfilling our aim to create cars that will help you avoid collisions altogether – it includes such features as Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and much more.
    • Driver Support Package
      • Wouldn’t it be great if your car could help you avoid collisions, spot wayward pedestrians, read road signs and warn you if, for example, you’re exceeding the speed limit? Imagine if your car could even sense you getting tired or distracted as you drive, and then give you a gentle warning. It’s not science fiction, it’s our Driver Support Package and it will help keep you safer and give you a more rewarding driving experience. As well as the features mentioned, the Package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (at all speeds), Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Driver Alert Control (DAC), Lane Keeping Aid (LKA), Active High Beam (AHB), Road Sign Information (RSI), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA).
    • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Queue Assist
      • Helping you to maintain your preset gap to vehicles in front at all speeds up to 200 km/h on automatics and between 30 and 200 km/h on manual cars, the ACC is a supportive partner for a more relaxed driving experience on any journey. In slow moving city traffic, the ACC stop and go function* with ECO mode automatically adapts your speed to the vehicle in front while helping you save fuel by maintaining smoother progress with less need for surges of acceleration. From standstill, a press of a button or the accelerator is all it takes to make your car smoothly tail the vehicle in front. At over 30 km/h, just select the desired speed and the minimum time gap to the vehicle in front. When the radar sensor detects a slower vehicle in front, the speed automatically adapts to that vehicle. And when the road is clear, the car resumes the selected speed. If ACC is disengaged and a vehicle in front comes too close, the distance alert function activates a warning light in the lower section of the windscreen to help you keep a proper distance. Whenever you want, you can also select conventional cruise control by pressing the ACC button for a few seconds. *The Queue Assist and stop and go function from 0 to 30 km/h requires an Automatic gearbox!
    • Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
      • Statistics show that in half of all rear-end collisions the driver at fault doesn’t brake at all. Active at speeds above 4 km/h, our collision avoidance technology can give you audible and visible warnings if you’re too close to a vehicle in front or if there are pedestrians or cyclists in your path. If you don’t react and a collision is imminent, full auto-braking is engaged to help you avoid or mitigate an impact. Within a range of 150 metres, a radar sensor behind the grille continuously monitors the distance to the vehicle driving in front of you and a digital camera behind the windscreen determines what objects are in front of you. During daylight it can also detect standing or moving pedestrians or cyclists. If a pedestrian or a cyclist unexpectedly swerves out in front of your car or if a vehicle suddenly brakes (or is stationary) and Collision Warning senses that a collision is likely to happen, it will prompt you to act with a flashing warning light on the windscreen along with an audible alarm. Moreover, this technology supports driver-initiated braking by pre-charging the brakes to minimise the braking distance. If you don’t react to the warning and a collision is imminent, the car immediately brakes with full braking force.
    • Driver Alert Control (DAC)
      • You know the scenario. Maybe you’ve had a long day at the office or possibly too many hours behind the wheel, and your attention begins to waver. This is a danger zone that we’ve given a lot of thought to, because distracted drivers cause up to 90 per cent of all accidents. That’s why we’ve developed Driver Alert Control (DAC) to help distracted drivers at speeds over 65km/h. A camera looks at the road ahead while DAC checks on your steering inputs to see how they compare to your regular driving style. If it senses that you’re driving more erratically, or there are signs that you’re drowsy or distracted, it’ll give you an audible warning and a message on the instrument panel suggesting you take a break.
    • Lane Keeping Aid (LKA)
      • At speeds between 65 km/h and 200 km/h, Lane Keeping Aid can help prevent single-vehicle road departures as well as collisions caused by temporary distraction. This function uses a digital camera to register the lane markings and help monitor the car’s position on the road. If you get close to a lane marking, LKA will apply a gentle steering wheel torque to help keep the car in the lane. And should you nevertheless unintentionally cross the lane marking you'll be alerted by haptic vibrations in the steering wheel. When you intentionally cross a lane marker using the direction indicators, LKA is not activated.
    • Road Sign Information (RSI)
      • With RSI you don't have to miss important road signs. A forward camera detects speed limit and "no overtaking" signs. The actual sign is then displayed on the centre dial on the instrument cluster – to help keep you constantly alert on current restrictions. If you want, RSI can also alert you with a visual warning if you exceed the speed limit, by flashing gently three times. This is easily set in the centre console menu.
    • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA)
      • We’ve all experienced that nasty little shock as we’re changing lanes and suddenly realise that there’s another vehicle in our blind spot. That’s why we have developed Radar BLIS to give you total awareness. BLIS has radar sensors installed inside the rear of the car, which cover a much larger area behind the car and work in various sorts of weather and light conditions, day or night. As a vehicle enters your blind spot, this function can alert you via a warning light built into the front door post – left and right. Together with the door mirrors, which include a wide-angle mirror on the driver side, this helps you assess the feasibility of a lane change. Radar BLIS is activated once the car exceeds 10 km/h and reacts to almost any type of vehicle, including motorcycles. Cross Traffic Alert uses the rear radar sensors to alert you of crossing traffic from the sides when reversing out of a parking space. This is especially helpful in tight and crowded areas where the side view might be limited.
    • Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) with Advanced Stability Control (ASC), Corner Traction Control (CTC), Engine Drag Control (EDC) and Sport Mode
      • It can catch you out when you least expect it. And it really is a heart-stopping moment when, on a rain-slicked or ice-covered road, the tail of your car steps out as it threatens to go into a skid. Steer into that skid and you can end up fishtailing, and ultimately, going into a spin. This is precisely the kind of scenario that has made Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) one of the most vital safety advances of the past decade. The system looks at factors like what direction the car is travelling, how fast the wheels are rotating and how much steering lock is applied. Using all this information, DSTC can detect a potential skid and take action to prevent it by reducing engine power and/or braking the appropriate wheels. It can also prevent the wheels from locking during engine braking, using Engine Drag Control (EDC). To help the DSTC system work even sooner and with more precision to prevent a skid, the Advanced Stability Control (ASC) system has a new multi-axis sensor. But ASC is about giving you a rewarding driving experience, too, so when you’re cornering enthusiastically the car will feel even more dynamically stable. Another feature that means you’ll experience sharper turn-in to corners, less understeer and more fun behind the wheel is Corner Traction Control (CTC). It works by braking the inside driven wheel if it starts to lose its grip through a corner, while sending the power to the outer wheel instead. And if you’re in the mood for a bit of performance driving, DSTC has a Sport Mode. It cuts out the engine power reducing function and allows a controlled amount of rear wheel slip, as long as it senses that the driver is using the steering wheel and accelerator in a dynamic way and as long as it doesn’t go too far, in which case it will return to the normal DSTC-function.
    • Anti-locking brakes with Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Ready Alert Brakes (RAB)
      • When you’ve been caught by surprise by another car pulling out of a junction unexpectedly, that’s when large anti-lock disc brakes really come into their own – shorter stopping distances at times like this make all the difference. And if you find yourself travelling down a mountain road with the need to brake often and hard, you’ll welcome our brakes’ resistance to fading. But since there is always a risk of fade, your Volvo is prepared for this, too, with Fading Brake Support (FBS). This system gradually builds hydraulic brake pressure so that you always have reassuring pedal feel. But what if you find yourself having to brake in an emergency, and perhaps not applying the necessary pressure to the pedal? Well, we’ve developed Hydraulic Brake Assist, which ensures that maximum braking pressure is applied hydraulically during a panic stop. Likewise, if you suddenly lift off the accelerator or sensors detect an obstacle in front of the car, Ready Alert Brakes instantly move the brake pads closer to the brake discs to reduce the braking distance. And Electronic Brake Distribution ensures that the right amount of braking goes to the front and rear of the your Volvo depending on where the load in the car is distributed and what the road conditions are.
    • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
      • Imagine that you’re in the passing lane on a high-speed motorway. Your car starts to weave; at first you’re baffled and then it dawns on you. One of your rear tyres is dangerously low on pressure – with any luck, you’ll make it safely to the hard shoulder. It’s a terrifying scenario, and one of the reasons why we developed our tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which uses sensors mounted in each tyre valve. If you’re travelling at 30km/h or more and any one of your tyres is underinflated you’ll be instantly alerted.
    • Active High Beam (AHB)
      • Journeys after dark have just become a lot more enjoyable – and safer – thanks to our new Active High Beam, available as an option. With this system, you don’t need to keep flicking between low and high beam, which is not only annoying – according to several studies, it’s also a major cause of night-time accidents. With our new system, your headlights stay on high beam all the time. When another car approaches from the opposite direction, the system prevents dazzling the other driver by flicking from high beam to low beam and back to high beam again. And because the system is intelligent, the high beam shuts off when you enter a city, but if you drive past an illuminated sign – say a filling station or supermarket – it stays on so you can see what’s coming up. This means you benefit from safety as well as convenience.
    • LED dayrunning lights, decor
      • Automatically activated during daylight, these energy efficient LED lights make your car more conspicuous. And when the dipped headlights are needed for illumination, they are automatically engaged by a twilight sensor. What’s more, the spoiler integrated LED lights also add to the distinct styling of your Volvo.
    • Active Bending Lights (ABL) with Dual Xenon Technology
      • You know when you’re driving down a winding country road at night and the headlights don’t quite show you everything coming up around the next bend? We wondered, what if your headlights could swivel like eyes, so your car could help you see around corners? So we developed Active Bending Lights – with motorised lamps that can turn up to 15 degrees in either direction – that follow the way you steer. And by using extra bright Dual Xenon lights (low beam and high beam), you get a 90 per cent boost to your vision round bends at night. This means you can gain a further 45 metres for braking. You can also experience highly effective low-beam illumination on narrow, winding roads and extremely powerful high beams on the motorway – a sensor disengages the adaptive function during daylight to reduce wear. It’s a very clever system, too – depending on the load in the car, the headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road, even during hard acceleration or braking.
    • Emergency Brake light (EBL)
      • We’ve all been on the motorway when the car in front unexpectedly brakes hard and then you have to brake even harder, while praying that the car behind you reacts in time. Wouldn’t you like to have some way of making sure traffic behind knows there’s a problem? Well, that’s our Emergency Brake Light, which works above 50km/h and knows the difference between normal and panic braking. If it is a panic stop, the brake lights will flash at a rate of four times per second, which will telegraph a clear message to following traffic that there’s a potential problem ahead. Once you slow to below 10km/h, the brake lights stop pulsing and your hazard lights take over.
    • Warning triangle
      • This lightweight wide-angle reflector stands upright to alert other road users even in strong winds and on slippery surfaces. It folds easily and stores in its own case.

    Protective safety

    • Reinforced passenger compartment
      • Wherever you go in your Volvo, you and your passengers are surrounded by a strong protective steel cage. And that it’s reinforced with one of the strongest steel types available – hot formed boron steel. In a collision, the front and rear crumple zones help to dissipate the energy of the crash to reduce the impact on those inside the car, while in a side-on impact, our Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS) distributes the crash force across a large portion of the car’s body to further reduce your risk of injury. And to further help protect passengers, there is a steel cross-member under the dashboard.
    • Energy-absorbing frontal structure
      • The unique geometry of the frontal structure and longitudinal steel struts in the doors help disperse crash energy away from the front to the rear of the car, reducing impact effects on driver and passengers. The fact that all Volvos have transversely mounted, compact in-line engines, results in maximum space for deformation and energy dispersion.
    • Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)
      • We believe that the car should bear the brunt of any collision, not the people inside it. That’s why we’ve developed our cars so that they offer legendary protection, not just from front and rear impacts, but also from side-on collisions. The steel framework of the car – and that includes the front seat frames – has been designed to help displace the impact of a side-on collision away from the people inside and prevent intrusion into the cabin. And because we understand that an impact with a larger vehicle is a possibility on busy roads, the extremely strong side structure contains ultra-high strength steel to help withstand a severe impact. We have even taken into account the side windows – the Inflatable Curtain (IC) works in conjunction with SIPS and the side airbags to protect people in the front seats. In the rear, SIPS and the IC protect the passengers in the outer rear seat.
    • Restraint technologies
      • In a collision, Volvo's restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact to the occupant. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within fractions of a second in the event of a collision or roll-over and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to provide protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the collision. The driver's airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. A knee airbag above the pedals further enhances protection of the driver. Side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries In a frontal offset collision, a side collision or roll-over, the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants.
    • Safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters
      • Safety belts are the first line of defence when it comes to help protecting people during a crash. That’s why we introduced them in 1959. We also invented the audible and visual safety belt reminder and today, everybody in the car is reminded to fasten their safety belts before moving off. And in the information display on the instrument panel, you can check that the rear seat passengers have all fastened their safety belts and that nobody unfastens them during the trip. Pre-tensioners activate to tighten the belts within fractions of a second in the event of a collision. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled fashion.
    • Dual-stage airbags, driver and front passenger
      • In a frontal collision, the driver and passenger airbags help protect your head, face and chest. But because no two collisions are the same, the airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the impact. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. And if the impact is low enough that the airbags aren’t needed, the system will just deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary.
    • Passenger airbag cut-off switch
      • The passenger airbag is designed to help protect an adult in a frontal collision in case of collision. But if a child or a person shorter than 140 centimetres is in the front passenger seat, the airbag must first be disengaged to avoid the risk of serious injury. The airbag cut-off switch is positioned on the passenger end of the dashboard and can only be accessed with the door open. When the airbag is switched off, you’re notified by a message on the roof console display.
    • Side airbags
      • In a side-collision, the side airbags inflate instantly to help protect the chest and hip. The side airbags are located in the ideal spot on the front seatback.
    • Inflatable Curtain (IC)
      • In a frontal offset or side-on collision, the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear passengers who are sitting on the sides. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts.
    • Collapsible steering column
      • The steering column is an advanced part of the safety system, with the upper and lower sections giving way in a controlled manner in a frontal impact to help protect the driver.
    • Pre-prepared restraints
      • Wouldn’t it be great it your car could prepare for the worst? Well, your Volvo can, with another IntelliSafe feature that maximises comfort while quietly and unobtrusively going about the business of safety. Using advanced sensors, the car scans the road ahead and if the system spots an obstacle that could result in a collision, it prepares the airbags and seatbelts for the expected crash force. This together with a robust body structure gives the best protection in a low or medium-severe frontal collision.
    • Energy-absorbing interior
      • All the panels and door sides are padded with energy-absorbing materials to help reduce the risk of injury to the car’s passengers.
    • Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS)
      • It’s something that happens every day in every major city in the world – a moment’s inattention and one driver runs into the back of another. And the result can be long-term injury as a result of whiplash. Volvo, as part of its IntelliSafe programme, has developed a system that can help reduce the risk of long-term injury by as much as 50 per cent. During a rear impact, the WHIPS system moves the entire seatback with the passenger or driver – similar to the way you might gently catch a ball – while the head restraint remains rigid to support the neck. A unique Volvo design.
    • Head restraints
      • We have developed head restraints that offer outstanding protection regardless of a person’s height, whether they are seated in the front or the rear. And the rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to improve the driver’s rearward visibility. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position. The outer head restraints can fold forward at the press of a button (optional) to further improve rear vision. In the folded position, they too are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position.
    • Anti-submarining protection
      • To help prevent that passengers slide under and out of their safety belts in the event of a big impact, the seats feature anti-submarining guards which are specially shaped panels angled upwards at the forward edge inside the seats.
    • Protection of unprotected road-users
      • Volvo's unique pedestrian airbag technology helps reduce the effects from an impact on unprotected road-users. To further help reduce the impact on unprotected road-users, the front of the vehicle is gently rounded, the headlamps are integrated flush with the body, and the bonnet is energy-absorbing to act as a crumple zone.
    • Pedestrian airbag
      • The pedestrian airbag is a Volvo safety world first and an important step to help reduce the consequences of a frontal collision between a car and a pedestrian. Sensors in the front bumper register an impact with a pedestrian and release the rear end of the bonnet together with an airbag that covers the area under the bonnet, 1/3 of the windscreen and the lower part of the windscreen pillars. This together with energy-absorbing front and bonnet design helps reduce the severity of pedestrian injury in an impact. The pedestrian airbag is active at speeds from 20 km/h to 50 km/h.
    • Volvo On Call and smartphone app
      • The Volvo On Call app lets you access your car’s dashboard, plus get your door lock status, fuel level, maintenance warnings and much more! Push the Volvo On Call button or use your mobile app to speak to an operator, who can dispatch assistance to your GPS location if you require roadside assistance. If a collision is detected, your Volvo alerts a trained operator to contact the vehicle and send emergency service. You can also remotely control the climate in your car using just your smartphone. Use the app to pre-heat your engine or warm up the cabin of your diesel Volvo, without using the engine. It’s one of life’s little everyday luxuries with a Volvo.
    • First-aid kit
      • The first-aid kit is conveniently carried in the load compartment and contains a variety of bandages. The contents are stored in different compartments to make it easier to find what you need in an emergency.

    Security

    • Alarm
      • The alarm is connected to the doors, bonnet, boot and ignition. It also reacts to movement inside the car or the breaking of a window. A level sensor can be added to deter thieves from jacking up the car to steal your wheels or tow it away.
    • Panic alarm
      • In an emergency, you can use the panic button on the remote control to attract attention. Press and hold the button for at least 3 seconds or press it twice to activate the hazard lights and the horn.
    • Remote-controlled central locking system
      • A touch of a button on the remote control unlocks the doors and bootlid. Use the personal settings menu to decide if the remote unlocks the driver’s door first, or all doors at the same time. You can also close or open all windows (including the sunroof if you have one) and unlock the boot separately.
    • Automatic door locking
      • To further enhance your personal security, the doors can be set in the information menu to automatically lock the moment you drive away. Alternatively, lock them swiftly from the front seats using the lock button. Lock buttons are also available for the rear seat passengers.
    • Private Locking
      • Private Locking is a function that allows you to keep the luggage and glove compartment locked even when you lend out your remote control to, for example, a valet parking attendant. To activate Private Locking, a miniature key incorporated within the remote control is used to lock the glove compartment. This stops both compartments from being unlocked with the remote control, but allows the central locking system and ignition to be used as normal.
    • Global locking and closing
      • This function allows you to close all windows and lock the car all at once by pressing the button on the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator for two seconds. Alternatively, press the button for two seconds to unlock the car and open all the windows.
    • Immobiliser and theft-protected locks
      • Not only will the door locks withstand most break-in attempts, the electronic immobiliser makes it impossible to start the car without the right remote control. And even if a would-be thief manages to get into the car via a window, the deadlock system makes it impossible to open the doors from the inside.
    • Approach and Home Safe lighting
      • Activated with the remote control, Approach Lighting provides a warm reception on a dark night. This consists of parking lights, interior lights and ground lighting too, if fitted. Home Safe Lighting is activated with the headlight stalk as you leave the car. This feature provides a low beam from the headlight to accompany you to your door, whether you’re returning home or are out on the road.
    • Power retractable door mirrors
      • To protect your door mirrors from damage while the car for example is parked or driving through a car wash, press both buttons for the left and right mirror at the same time to fold them flat against the car. They can also be set to fold or unfold automatically every time you lock or unlock the car. The integrated ground lighting is activated by the approach light button on your remote control, enhancing security as you go to and from your car at night. And to facilitate parking, the door mirrors can tilt automatically (or by the push of a button) when reversing.
    • Lockable wheel bolts
      • These provide a simple, effective way of reducing the risk of aluminium wheels being stolen. The wheel lock features one uniquely coded socket enabling only you or your garage technician to remove the wheels.
  • Seats

    • Ergonomically designed seats
      • The seats in your Volvo may well be the most important ones in your life – over the lifetime of your car, you will probably spend thousands of hours sitting on them. That’s why we spent so much time developing their ergonomic sculpted design, firm yet comfortable, with supporting side cushions and ergonomic padding. Indeed, our seats are widely accepted as some of the finest in the car world. They have features like stepless lumbar support in the front seats, which allows for the tiniest degrees of adjustment for the best support for each individual. Add in our wide choice of upholstery materials and designs, and you’ll have a seat you’ll never want to leave.
    • Ambient Light
      • Good lighting is the key to creating the right atmosphere. This is as true in your car as it is in your home. Our new optional Ambient Light package illuminates any features you might need to find at night. A sophisticated white glow ensures you’ll never have to fumble in the dark for cupholders or root around blindly in the door pockets. “The overall effect is very warm and cosy, like being in a warm Swedish house on a cold night,” say our designers. The colour theme corresponds beautifully with the backlit white controls in the dash and elsewhere in the car. Even the optional compass in your rear view mirror lights up in the same elegant white tone.
    • Fully adjustable front seats
      • There’s no such thing as a standard-sized Volvo owner. That’s why we’ve taken such care to design seats that can be manually adjusted to fit a huge range of physiques. You can, for example, change the height and the angle of the seat cushion to suit you perfectly and give full under-thigh support, whatever your shape or size. This great adjustability is also optionally available for the passenger seat. To make sure the small of your back is comfortably supported, the lumbar support can be adjusted on each front seat. And the seats slide back and forth over such a large range that even the tallest or shortest drivers will find their perfect driving position.
    • Electrically powered seats with remote memory
      • You know how frustrating it is to climb behind the wheel, only to find that a partner or colleague has adjusted the seat and door mirrors to suit their particular physique. That’s why you can electrically adjust the driver’s seat and door mirrors to your perfect position and then your Volvo saves the settings. Every time you use your remote control for the central locking, the seat and door mirrors will automatically adjust to your preferences (you get two remote controls or Personal Car Communicators with your Volvo and can order up to four more). Each remote control triggers the corresponding setting from the last time that particular remote control was used. Furthermore, you can save up to three different seat and door mirror settings by using the buttons on the seat. And an electrically adjustable passenger seat is also optionally available.
    • Heated seats, front and rear
      • We Scandinavians are used to snow and ice. And because we understand cold weather better than most, few cars are better equipped to deal with freezing temperatures than your Volvo. In fact, thanks to our heating systems, you may now positively look forward to your drive when the mercury drops. Take our heated seats – since they work particularly quickly, your car will be just as comfortable as your living room in no time at all, with three levels for the driver and front seat passenger. Back seat passengers are catered for as well, with heated seats for the two outer positions, equally featuring three levels.
    • R-Design seats
      • Inspired by racing seats, the R-Design seats feature seating surfaces in high-friction durable nubuck textile. Together with the seat's side support, this keeps you firmly in place even during the high lateral g-forces that often comes with inspired driving. Alternatively, the seating surfaces are in genuine nappa leather that have a genuine natural feel that is soft to the touch and adds a luxurious touch to the interior. Contrasting stitching enhances the sculpted seat design. And for the uncompromised sporty touch, sections of the seats are upholstered in perforated leather that also are echoed in the handbrake lever, gearshift gaiter and front centre armrest.

    Climate

    • Clean Zone Interior Package (CZIP)
      • There’s nothing that gets a trip off to a worse start than getting into stuffy car, particularly on a warm day. To prepare a fresh environment in your Volvo, CZIP initiates a ventilation cycle, which is triggered when you unlock the car with your remote control or your Personal Car Communicator. This feature is active on days when it is at least 10°C outside. CZIP also does a great job of venting out allergy and asthma inducing substances.
    • Interior Air Quality System (IAQS)
      • Volvo’s IAQS continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
    • Electronic Climate Control (ECC)
      • Electronic Climate Control (ECC) maintains the cabin temperature you choose and can be set independently for the driver and front passenger. Further contributing to your health and comfort, the system’s humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity in relation to the outside climate.
    • Cabin filter
      • Preventing dust and pollen from entering the cabin via the ventilation system, the cabin filter is a real benefit to driver and passengers, especially those prone to hay fever or other allergies.
    • Panoramic glass roof
      • We designed this exclusive fixed panoramic glass roof to give you and your passengers a superb experience of air and light inside your Volvo. To maintain climate comfort even on the sunniest days, the tinted glass reduces infrared (IR) radiation. And if there's too much light and sunshine, just close the sliding curtain with the press of a button. It opens from the rear so your rear seat passengers can enjoy the ambience of light while you and the front passenger are still shaded. Dark tinted laminated glass further increases climate comfort and security. It also helps protect from UV radiation.
    • Fuel-driven engine and cabin heater
      • A fuel-driven heater will make your car easier to start, warm up the cabin and help reduce the environmental impact – a cold engine produces far more harmful emissions than a warm one, and will increase engine wear. Start the heater directly, or set the time you’d like to enter your warm and defrosted car. With a remote starter you can activate the heater without going out to the car. And if your car is equipped with Volvo On Call, you can start the heater using your smartphone.
    • Heated windscreen
      • Standing outside your car scraping off the ice on a cold winter’s morning isn’t the best start to your day. Now, thanks to our heated windscreen, all you need to do is push a button. When you do, the windscreen will start de-icing immediately just like the rear window and door mirrors, and you’ll soon be on your way.

    Storage

    • Front door panel storage pockets
      • For your convenience there's door panel storage on the driver's and front seat passenger's side. There's even a pocket with drainage, specially-designed for your ice scraper.
    • Front cupholders
      • The two cupholders for the driver and front seat passenger are hidden under an elegant roll-top cover and conveniently positioned in the tunnel console. To provide extra storage, the cupholders can be removed.
    • Front centre armrest
      • Further adding to your comfort and convenience, the front centre armrest is fore-aft adjustable and incorporates several facilities. Two cup holders and a 12 V power outlet are concealed by a roll-top cover. There's a handy storage space beneath the armrest, and special recesses for small items. The armrest also features an AUX input or – depending on your choice of audio system – a USB port to connect your auxiliary devices to the car's audio system.
  • Driver's support

    • Heated windscreen
      • Standing outside your car scraping off the ice on a cold winter’s morning isn’t the best start to your day. Now, thanks to our heated windscreen, all you need to do is push a button. When you do, the windscreen will start de-icing immediately just like the rear window and door mirrors, and you’ll soon be on your way.
    • Instrument cluster
      • Inspired by racing motorcycles, this instrument cluster is designed to give you instant and intuitive information. A gearshift indicator for manual transmission and an Eco meter support you to drive in the most fuel-efficient way. And if you want an even more personalised driving experience, you can choose the digital instrument cluster with active TFT crystal display.
    • Adaptive Digital Display
      • With the high resolution digital instrument cluster you easily adapt the instrument layout and interface to your driving desires. You have three displays to switch between – Elegance, Eco and Performance.

 Elegance
This is your sophisticated and stylish display theme in black, with the speedometer in the centre dial and highlighted needle for easy reading. With manual transmission a gearshift indicator helps you drive in the most energy-efficient way.

 Eco
The instrument layout features a green colour theme and is similar to Elegance mode, but you also get an Eco meter. Guiding you by showing real time fuel consumption and average consumption from the last minutes, the Eco meter supports you to drive in the most fuel-efficient way. And when driving really economical, you’ll receive a symbolic reward in the display.

Performance
In the red Performance mode you can enjoy an uncompromised sporty look. The centre dial rev counter and a digital speedometer enhance your feeling of being in command. Not to mention the power meter that displays how much engine power you use and have at your disposal before overtaking.
    • Centre display
      • Volvo's intuitive centre display allows you to explore conveniently the hi-tech features of your car and personalise them to suit your needs. All information is displayed in a high-resolution 5-inch or 7-inch colour screen. A push of the MY CAR button in the centre console gives you access to all system settings like City Safety, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Radar Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Road Sign Information (RSI), lights, door mirrors, climate, central locking, audio and phone. The multimedia audio systems with 7-inch screen will also display the Road Traffic Information (RTI) navigation system, park assist camera, DVD, digital TV etc. Everything is conveniently controlled using the centre console or steering wheel controls – so you can keep your attention on the traffic and your hands on the steering wheel.
    • Cruise control
      • Conveniently operated from the steering wheel, cruise control allows you to drive in a more relaxed way without having to keep your foot on the accelerator. The car maintains the speed you choose until you turn off the cruise control or press the brake, accelerator or clutch. After braking or using the clutch, the car returns to its previous cruising speed at the touch of a button. After accelerating – for instance to overtake – your car automatically reverts to its previous cruising speed once you release the accelerator.
    • Speed limiter
      • This helps ensure that you don't exceed a certain speed. Just set a speed using the steering wheel controls. When you reach the set speed you'll notice some subtle resistance feedback from the accelerator. To override the speed limiter all you have to do is press down the accelerator.
    • Trip computer
      • Operated via the indicator stalk, the trip computer shows current and average fuel consumption, how far the fuel will take you and average speed – helping you drive more economically.
    • Park assist sensors, rear and front
      • Activated when you engage reverse gear, rear park assist sensors help you when reversing into tight spaces. The audio system is turned down and a pulsating sound from the rear loudspeakers becomes a continuous tone as you approach an obstacle. Front park assist sensors perform a similar function at the front of the vehicle – alerting you via the front loudspeakers. The remaining distance is also shown in the centre console colour display.
    • Park Assist Pilot (PAP)
      • Take away the fuss of parallel parking and let your car park itself. At the press of a button, Park Assist Pilot scans the parking slot using ultrasonic sensor technology. PAP alerts you if the slot is spacious enough (minimum 1.2 x the length of the car). Then just follow the instructions in the driver information display. You control the speed and direction of your car, while PAP takes over the steering until you're perfectly parked.
    • Rain sensor
      • Once activated, the rain sensor can start the windscreen wipers as soon as it begins to rain or if water splashes onto the windscreen. For your convenience, it can also automatically adapt the intermittent windscreen-wiper function. Its sensitivity can be adjusted via a ring on the wiper stalk.
    • Daytime Running Lights with daylight sensor
      • With the light switch in the Auto position, the fuel-saving Daytime Running Lights are automatically activated. If the daylight becomes to dim, or if you enter a tunnel for example, a sensor will detect the changed light conditions and activate your car's headlights. They will also be activated if you turn on the windscreen wipers or the rear fog light. The system will turn the headlights automatically as well.
    • Multifunctional door mirrors
      • The generously dimensioned door mirrors are power operated using a joystick in the driver's door panel. Indicators are embedded in the sides of the mirror – a nudge of the indicator stalk will activate three flashes of the indicator light, so there's less risk your turn will go unannounced. To further enhance your safety and comfort, there are options such as power folding, ground lighting and Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror
      • Ending the need to take your hand off the steering wheel and stop headlight beams shining in your eyes, the anti-dazzle function is stepless and returns to normal when it's no longer needed.
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror with compass
      • This is a mirror that automatically adjusts itself to deflect the headlamp beams of the car behind you. When there's no light to dazzle you, it automatically readjusts to its normal setting. And to help you take a bearing, your course is continuously displayed in the rear view mirror glass.
    • Illuminated vanity mirror
      • Fitted in the sun visor, lights come on when you open the vanity mirror cover – convenient and practical. Available for both the driver and front passenger.
    • Power windows, front and rear
      • The power windows have controls conveniently located in the door armrests. The front windows can be lowered or raised with a quick press or pull of a button, and you can lock the back windows from the driver’s seat if you’re travelling with small children. In this case, you’ll also be glad of the automatic anti-clamp protection, which will stop a window from closing on a trapped little hand.
    • Speed-dependent power steering
      • The optional speed-dependent and progressive power steering uses sophisticated, speed-sensitive technology to regulate the amount of power assistance you need while driving. At highway speeds, the steering is firm and positive. When parking or in slow traffic, the steering is light and effortless. While the steering sensitivity adjusts automatically depending on your car’s speed, you can choose in the centre display between three levels of overall steering sensitivity – for low steering effort, medium or high.
    • Headlamp level adjuster
      • The headlamp level adjuster allows the driver to lower or raise the angle of the headlight beam by turning a dial on the instrument panel. This is particularly useful when driving at night with a full load. Only applies to halogen headlamps; Dual Xenon Active Bending Lights adjust automatically.
    • Extra power outlet
      • Accessible for anyone in the front or rear seats, the extra power outlet is neatly integrated in the storage area below the front centre armrest and can provide electricity for a phone charger, laptop, game console, DVD player or other portable electronic devices.

    Communication

    • Bluetooth® handsfree system, integrated

The on-board Bluetooth® technology lets you do all this wirelessly through the infotainment system – and play some music along the way. Once configured for a mobile phone, the system automatically recognises your phone as you enter the car. And as you get in and out of the car, the system automatically allows you to switch freely from the phone to the handsfree system and back again. The audio systems High Performance, High Performance Multi Media and Premium Sound Multi Media include an integrated Bluetooth® handsfree system, allowing you to operate your phone conveniently using the buttons on the steering wheel or the centre console keypad. Phone information is shown on the centre console multimedia display. And if you’ve chosen Sensus Navigation system, you can make your calls using voice control. What’s more, you can stream high quality audio from a media player and listen to it through the car’s audio system. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Volvo Car Corporation is under licence. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners.

    Entertainment

    • Digital TV receiver
      • Don’t miss your favourite TV show even if you’re in your car. Complement your audio system with this digital TV receiver, and you can watch terrestrial TV broadcasts on the integrated 7-inch centre display when the car is not being driven. The digital TV is conveniently controlled using the optional remote control.

    Transmission

    • Six-speed manual gearbox
      • For maximum driving enjoyment, the six-speed manual gearbox offers fluid and precise gear selection. The sixth gear provides relaxed cruising, improved fuel economy and lower CO₂ emissions on the motorway. And the smooth action of the clutch assures that you move off with confidence and grace.
    • Six-speed Powershift transmission
      • Improved performance but while using less energy: impossible? Not with our Powershift dual-clutch six-speed automatic, which consumes 7 per cent less fuel than a conventional automatic, this responsive automatic shifts gears instantaneously, delivers torque without disruption and can instantly be switched to manual mode whenever you want it.
    • Six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission
      • Wouldn’t it be nice to have a car that’s just as much at home towing a caravan or negotiating heavy traffic as it is taking on a challenging open road? Well, you can. With the six-speed Geartronic you stay in control in all conditions. With an all-new gearshifter in piano black finish with white lettering, this is a responsive automatic that can instantly switch to manual mode when you need it. Depending on engine, the Geartronic transmission also features a sport mode for more active driving – when it is activated, the gearbox reacts more urgently to throttle inputs and allows the engine higher revs during acceleration.
    • Start/Stop technology
      • To further reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 8% when driving in the city, all engines feature Volvo’s Start/Stop technology. Once the engine is warmed up and the car comes to a standstill (for example at a traffic light) where you put the gear in neutral and release the clutch, the engine automatically shuts off. And instantly as you press the clutch pedal, the engine restarts and you’re on the go. An extra battery ensures that all infotainment and comfort systems will function as usual even with the engine shut off. The Start/Stop system can be deactivated with a push of a button in the centre console and is active between 0° and 30° C.
    • Engine braking energy regeneration
      • Take advantage of energy. Every time you release the accelerator while a gear is engaged, the engine braking energy that otherwise would be wasted is fed back to the battery. This reduces the average load of the alternator and results in 2-3 per cent lower fuel consumption – a valuable contribution to fuel economy and lower CO₂ emissions.

    Chassis & Steering

    • Chassis
      • In collaboration with skilled racing drivers, Volvo's chassis engineers spent thousands of hours on all kinds of roads to create a chassis that satisfies even the most demanding driver. Every single detail of the chassis is optimally tuned for sporty and well-balanced handling with a high level of comfort. For you as driver, advanced multi-link rear and McPherson spring strut front suspension mounted on a rigid body with a low centre of gravity translate into a feeling of being in command and in safe control. The front wheel knuckles are made in aluminium to minimise the unsprung weight and maximise your driving experience. The front and rear suspensions also interact to provide stable braking and crisp steering. In a curve, the rear wheels have a slight steering facility for added stability and steering response. And for even more fun behind the wheel, a lowered and stiffer sports chassis is available.
    • Sports chassis
      • This chassis lowers the car by 10 mm for a sportier look and ride. The lower centre of gravity together with firmer shock absorbers and springs further improves roadholding, traction and road control when cornering – for your enjoyment and feeling of dynamic control in all situations.
    • Electrical power assist steering
      • This electrical power assisted rack and pinion steering saves fuel and responds to your commands precisely and intuitively. Behind the wheel, you can enjoy responsive yet firm steering at all speeds. And you easily adapt the steering characteristics and power assistance to suit your driving needs or moods: choose City, Highway or Sport and you can enjoy the ultimate setting for each situation.
  • Inside

    • Interior Air Quality System (IAQS)
      • Volvo’s IAQS continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
    • Cabin filter
      • Preventing dust and pollen from entering the cabin via the ventilation system, the cabin filter is a real benefit to driver and passengers, especially those prone to hay fever or other allergies.

    • Four-cylinder Drive-E turbocharged petrol engine (T5)
      • With our lightweight Drive-E powertrain generation no efforts have been spared to give you the most efficient, confident and exciting driving experience – for today as well as for the future. Utilising state-of-the-art engine technology and innovative out-of-the-box thinking, our engineers have created a range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines with the same power output and driveability as considerably larges engines with six cylinders or more. And what's even better – the fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions are supremely low. Low friction technology, innovative engine management systems, common rail fuel injection and advanced turbo technology are some of the secrets behind this marvel of pure efficiency. Together with the fuel-saving eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, the 245 hp/350 Nm T5 drivetrain ensures you'll always be in the right gear to enjoy superior comfort and engine response. And if you'd like to boost your efficiency even further, our intelligent ECO+ function optimises the engine, the automatic transmission and the climate system to further lower your fuel consumption with about 5%.
    • Four-cylinder common rail turbodiesel engine (D2)
      • When you think about superb fuel economy and ultra-low CO₂ emissions, it’s natural to assume that you might have to sacrifice the fun of driving. Well, we’ve engineered our 115hp 1.6-litre D2 turbodiesel so there is no need for that. With first-rate low-rev torque, performance is relaxed but quite punchy. In addition, the engine is light, which means handling is nimble and rewarding. The engine features Start/Stop technology as well as engine braking energy regeneration, which contribute to excellent fuel efficiency and low CO₂ emissions. The D2 comes with a manual six-speed gearbox or Powershift, a dual-clutch six-speed gearbox with automatic and manual functions.
    • Five-cylinder common rail turbodiesel engine (D3)
      • We don’t see why power, refinement, a great driving experience and superb fuel efficiency can’t all be provided by one engine. That’s exactly why we designed this 2.0-litre five-cylinder 150hp turbodiesel. The five-cylinder engine offers smooth running. An impressive amount of torque is available at engine speeds not much above idle, which accounts for its relaxed, flexible and responsive performance. So the driving experience is great, but not at the expense of CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption – a range of technical modifications make the D3 one of the most efficient engines in its class. The D3 also features fuel-saving and CO₂-reducing engine braking energy regeneration and Volvo’s Start/Stop technology. The D3 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.
    • Fuel-saving design
      • Better design really can make a difference. To reduce energy losses from wind and rolling resistance, we use advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and low friction technology. Together with our state-of-the-art engines, this adds up to lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions for your car.
    • Advanced petrol engine emission control and diesel particulate filter
      • Going into action quickly after a cold start, Volvo’s advanced emission control eliminates between 95 and 99 per cent of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from petrol engine exhaust gases. And Volvo turbodiesels feature a particulate filter that removes about 95 per cent of the particles from diesel exhaust gases.
