Research & Development
Research & Development is the responsibility of four different units – Product Planning, Design, Vehicle Line and Engineering. Within these units our future Volvo cars are developed, from the first idea to pre-series production, including development of innovative technical solutions, both at Volvo and in collaboration with suppliers. The Design department works with calculation and design and also creates the innovative concept cars. The development of future Volvo products takes place at the headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a branch at the newly inaugurated Technical Development Center in Shanghai, China. We also have three design centres, located in Gothenburg, Barcelona in Spain, and in Camarillo, outside Los Angeles.
Purchasing
Our Purchasing department is ultimately responsible for the selection of all Volvo Cars’ suppliers in order to develop and maintain a world class supplier base. They also have the responsibility for procurement of all production materials and services for Volvo Cars. This unit is primarily located in Gothenburg.
Manufacturing
Volvo Car Manufacturing has the strategic and operational responsibility for manufacturing and delivering all of Volvo’s vehicles worldwide. We build premium cars, with focus on lean and flexible production and care for the environment. Our units for component manufacturing, car production and assembly are situated in Sweden, Belgium, China and South-East Asia.
Marketing, Sales & Customer Service
Our marketing and sales departments are responsible for all commercial activities in the markets, through the National Sales Companies, Importers and Retail Partners. The unit is also responsible for communication and interaction with our customers. The headquarters are located in Gothenburg, Sweden, and we have about 100 national sales companies and 2 400 local dealers worldwide.
Public Affairs
Public Affairs develops and executes Volvo Cars' Global Corporate Communications, Product Communications, Brand & Core Value Communications and Internal Communications. In addition to this, the unit is responsible for Corporate Sponsorship & Events and Governmental Affairs.
Quality & Customer Satisfaction
This unit provides tools, methods, processes, targets and audits for all parts of the company in matters relating to quality and customer satisfaction. The unit is primarily located in Gothenburg.
Human Resources
The Human Resources (HR) function provides the company with comprehensive human resources support in order to attract, recruit, develop and retain our employees. HR is primarily located in Gothenburg.
Finance
The Finance function provides financial expertise, sound judgement and business control within the organization, as well as information and guidance on financial matters to support the long-term achievement of the overall VCC business plan. Finance is primarily located in Gothenburg.
Legal
The Legal department is a resource for all legal matters, with the exception of intellectual property rights and tax and labour law, which are handled by the Intellectual Properties department, the Tax department and Labour Relations department respectively. Legal is primarily located in Gothenburg.
