  • 24TH TECHNOCLASSICA – SUCCESS AGAIN!

    2012-03-28
The 24th TechnoClassica was characterized by many sales transactions at a high price level and an excellent mood in the international specialized trade. For the over 1,200 exhibitors from 30 countries, the largest show for collectors' automobiles, old-timers, classic vehicles and young classics once more proved to be the internationally most important platform. With around 180,000 visitors from all over the world, the result was on the same high level as in the previous year.

Volvo Cars Heritage was again rewarded with a shiny big trophy for the efforts of bringing together an outstanding assembly of Amazon estates. A car that celebrates its 50th anniversary 2012.

The biggest eye-catcher of them all was by far the 800 hp (yes - that is true!) Amazon estate of young Swede Mattias Vöcks. His Ferrari Killer attracted people all the time during the whole show who admired the professionally rebuilt and very beautiful Volvo.

The 800 hp (!) Volvo Amazon estate of Mattias Vöcks is a real killer which, according to its owner "eats Supras for breakfast and enjoys killing Ferraris in duels."

Another big eye-catcher but with a different image was the unique electric Amazon estate of Ulf Hultberg, He converted this car in the early 1990s and has covered 250,000 totally quiet and exhaust-free kilometers since. The electric Amazon was specially mentioned during the prize ceremony and contributed a lot to the winning the trophy.

Fitted with a 20kW electric motor, instead of a B18 engine, and 200 kg of lithium batteries in the boot, this car will cover 120 km on one charge but is easily re-chargeable thanks to the onboard generator when there are no power sockets available. Nearest the camera is the dark blue 40 km Amazon which is the last one built.

The police and the fire brigade were also represented among the Amazon estates on the Volvo Cars Heritage stand. The police Amazon is from 1969, the last production year, whereas the red fire chief estate was built in 1968. Both cars have been in active service and are nicely restored and fitted with original equipment. Needless to say when it comes to old Volvo cars; they both run perfectly.

The police Amazon of Ingemar Rydh still has its original yellow rotating warning light and the fire chief car is the only Amazon estate built with a twin-carb 'S' engine and automatic transmission.

In 2013, TechnoClassica will celebrate its 25th anniversary and the Volvo Cars Heritage stand will be a very special one. Therefore preparations have already started in order to offer the visitors something extraordinary in terms of classic Volvos. TechnoClassica 2013 will be held April 10 – 14. See you there!
