THE 4th VCC ENTHUSIAST VEHICLE DAY

For the fourth time, Volvo Cars employees who have any kind of hobby or collector’s vehicle were invited to show them to other colleagues on May 22, the so-called Volvo Cars Vehicle Enthusiast Exhibition, held in one of the big parking lots next to one of the VCC offices.

In 1993, a small gang of classic car enthusiasts and Volvo Cars’ Claes Rydholm joined forces to arrange the first Tjolöholm Classic Show. 20 years later, this event has grown to be one of the major classic vehicle events in Sweden. Over the years, the sponsor roles have changed but Volvo Cars Heritage is always an enthusiastic guest and has been so 19 times out of a possible 20!

On May 5 2013, it is 20 years since Volvo’s single best-selling model, the 240 series, went out of production. Almost 2.9 million cars were made during the 19 years the 240 was produced; the car that first was criticized for its boring and boxy appearance, but during its lifetime managed to set the international standard for both safety and environment , win the European Touring Car Championship and achieve the status of yuppie cult car before it was discontinued in May 1993.

The world's largest indoor show for classic vehicles – TechnoClassica – celebrates its 25 anniversary this year. Volvo Cars Heritage attends the show under the theme “Volvo – The Passion”. The show runs between April 10 and April 14 in the German city of Essen.

UNIQUE 1800ES ON DISPLAY AT VOLVO CARS VISITOR CENTRE

This year 2013 marks the fact that the Volvo 1800 went out of production 40 years ago. This is given attention by Volvo Cars Heritage who is putting a truly stunning and unique 1800ES from 1973 on display in the Reception area of the Volvo Cars Visitor Centre in Gothenburg. The car will be on show until April when it goes on tour to various classic Volvo events.

75 years ago, in 1937, a Volvo truck was driven over the Andes, from Argentina to Chile, in order to demonstrate the quality and reliability of Volvo products as part of a South American marketing campaign for Volvo. In November every year, the Club Volvo Chile and Club Volvo Argentina run the Raid Los Andes together – but going the other way.

The Volvo Rendezvous for Owners and Members – VROM – was held August 12 –14 and was a jointly staged event together with IVM – International Volvo Meeting which is an international version of VROM. And international it certainly was, counting visitors from all over Europe (30 cars and 75 people arrived from the Belgian Classic Volvo club!) and even from the United States!
