We're always working to do as much as we can to reduce the environmental impact of our cars – but, with your help, we can do even more. So if you'd like to help us conserve the earth's finite resources even further, why not follow some of the following tips?
• Do you have a trip computer? Test yourself to see how much you can reduce your fuel consumption.
• Drive gently! Avoid accelerating and braking too hard.
• Drive in a higher gear – lower engine revs reduce fuel consumption.
• Use engine braking. Take your foot off the accelerator and change down.
• Avoid idling. Switch off the engine in traffic queues.
• Ease back on the accelerator pedal on downhill gradients.
• Since roof racks and ski boxes increase air resistance, resulting in significantly higher fuel consumption, they should be removed immediately after use.
• Remove unnecessary items from the car – the greater the load the higher the fuel consumption.
• Always ensure that the tyres are at the correct pressure (the highest figure in your Volvo's owners manual). Poorly inflated tyres increase fuel consumption.
• Is your car equipped with an engine block heater? If so, use it for a few hours before starting from cold to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
