As Child Safety Week comes to an end (22-28 June), Volvo Car UK is playing its part to help reduce the chance of children being seriously injured in road accidents by launching a new range of child car seats.

A Volvo that can be fuelled with electricity from a standard wall socket will be a reality in 2012. Swedish energy company Vattenfall and the Volvo Car Corporation are launching an industrial joint venture partnership to introduce plug-in hybrids on the market. The ground-breaking technology will considerably lower the environmental impact from traffic. In addition, owning a plug-in hybrid vehicle will be convenient since you can fuel up at home and fuel costs are significantly lower.

The Volvo XC60 crossover has been named ‘SUV of the Year' at the 2009 Fleet World Honours. This is Volvo's second consecutive appearance on the annual winners' list, after the XC60's ground-breaking City Safety won the Technology Category last year.

Volvo is offering relief to millions of hay fever sufferers facing another summer of streaming eyes and sudden sneezes by providing a cabin of safe haven. All new Volvo models are fitted as standard with pollen filters and cabin air quality monitoring systems to create the healthiest passenger environment possible.

Volvo Cars has announced first details of the new Volvo S80 executive saloon which will be available in the UK this summer. The changes give the car a more distinctive, dynamic design and striking face, while the interior offers enhanced luxury and comfort.

• Volvo is extending the DRIVe range after dramatically reducing CO2 levels and improving fuel efficiency in seven models
• Start/Stop available on C30, S40 and V50 to offer best in class CO2 emissions of 104 g/km in the C30 and 107 g/km for the S40 and V50
• Introducing the 1.6D engine in V70 and S80 bringing CO2 emissions down below 130 g/km

Volvo is celebrating after bucking national trends and beating the downturn with rising sales of its new cars during 2008.

Volvo Cars is introducing a new 2.4-litre 5-cylinder diesel engine in the Volvo S80. Sharing only the D5 badge and the five-cylinder configuration with the previous generation, the new engine is now Euro 5 compliant and is significantly more efficient than its predecessor.

Volvo’s C30 R-DESIGN Sport is setting one rental company apart from the opposition in the city of York. Europcar franchisee, Autohorn Ltd has taken delivery of 60 striking C30's to become part of its 400-strong daily rental fleet. 

The Volvo XC60, with Volvo's unique Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), is one of only five cars to receive the highest rating in Euro NCAP's new assessment procedure for evaluating the degree of whiplash protection offered by passenger cars in rear-end collisions. One of the world's most advanced wind tunnels is Volvo's new tool in the quest to lower fuel consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Volvo Car Corporation is the first car manufacturer to own a wind tunnel that fully simulates the airflow around and underneath the car's body, combined with wheel rotation on a flat road surface.

For the second year running Volvo Car UK will be the Official Partner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which takes place from 2-5 October 2008. Alongside providing a fleet of cars to transport the players in style, Volvo will also be running a hole-in-one competition on Sunday's final where players will have a chance to win a new Volvo XC60.

Volvo's new City Safety system which helps avoid or reduce the severity of low-speed collisions has won the Technology category at the Fleet World Honours¹ Awards 2008 in London today, its first UK award.   City Safety will be introduced as a world-first standard feature in the new Volvo XC60, which arrives in UK showrooms this October. 

The Volvo XC90 premium SUV has received several exciting updates for the 2009 Model Year, including a new lower CO2 figure for the D5 Geartronic1, the introduction of the sports-inspired R-DESIGN and new exterior colours, alloy wheels and options giving buyers more choice.  The new 2009 Volvo XC90 is available to order now, with first cars arriving in June. The very first Volvo car left the factory on April 14, 1927. It was called the ÖV4 because the letters ÖV are Swedish for "Open Car" and 4 indicating the number of cylinders powering the new car.
