The Volvo Eco Challenge is an inspirational new project which has been set up to help sailing clubs become more environmentally friendly, with £20,000 of grants available for Volvo RYA Champion Clubs.
The scheme is sponsored by Volvo Cars and supported by The Green Blue and will provide individual grants of between £100 - £1000 to Champion Clubs for a project carried out by young people aged between 10-16 who undertake an environmental initiative at their club.
The Environmental need:
Sailing Clubs have a legal duty for waste, pollution and contamination that their members and visitor activities produce. Research has proven that sailing clubs around the UK are struggling to comply with current environmental legislation; and with wildlife under constant pressure from climate change, human development and disturbance this is an important issue which needs addressing.
There are five main categories your project must focus on to be eligible for a grant;

Wildlife & biodiversity

A Green event
There are under 150 Volvo RYA Champion Club’s across the UK so with a total grant fund of £20,000 and advice and guidance from the RYA and The Green Blue your club could truly benefit. All successful applicants to the Volvo Eco Challenge will also have the opportunity to be automatically entered into the Volvo Adventure. www.volvoadventure.org
Volvo Eco Challenge Ambassador - Chris Packham
Television personality, Chris Packham is the Volvo Eco Challenge Ambassador. Chris has a passionate concern for conservation and the environment. He has travelled the world in pursuit of wildlife and conservation, and such issues will always remain close to his heart. Chris will be working with the Volvo Eco Challenge team to help spread the Eco friendly message across Sailing Clubs around the UK.
