The Volvo Eco Challenge is a great opportunity for young sailors to get actively involved with an environmental project for their club. The Eco Challenge provides grants of up to £1000 to sailing clubs who undertake an environmental initiative, carried out by young people aged between 10 – 16 at their club
£15,700 was awarded in 2008. Volvo has announced further Eco Challenge grants of £20,000 being available for 2009.

Why is there a need for this project?
Sailing Clubs have a legal duty for waste, pollution and contamination that their members and visitor activities produce. Research has proven that sailing clubs around the UK are struggling to comply with current environmental legislation; and with wildlife under constant pressure from climate change, human development and disturbance this is an important issue which needs addressing.
Environmental care has been one of Volvo Cars' commitments for about thirty years and the Volvo Eco Challenge delivers environmental benefits and fits well within their extensive global and UK sailing sponsorship.
