Helena is Britain’s top 2.4mR Class, single handed small keelboat Paralympic sailor.
In 2006, Helena was nominated for one of the most prestigious sailing awards, the ISAF Rolex World Female Sailor of the Year Award, due to her impressive performances at International events. She claimed silver and bronze medals in World Championships in her 2.4mR keelboat, defeating both able-bodied and disabled sailors to make the podium.
One of Helena’s most remarkable achievements to date was being asked to stand in for a pregnant Shirley Robertson at the 2006 Olympic Test Event in Qingdao, China. Despite never sailing the Yngling before and being born with no thumbs and only the use of two fingers on both hands, Helena rose to the challenge and steered the team to a silver medal.
