Team RogersGlanfield

Nick and Joe joined forces in 1998 and quickly became a formidable partnership winning the first International event they entered. They sail the 470, a double handed dinghy with Nick at the helm and Joe as crew. Nick and Joe have both dreamt of Olympic rings for many years so when they qualified for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games they were ecstatic. Sydney saw them achieve a personal best with a fourth, only one point away from bronze.

Coming so close to a medal drove the pair on for the next four years. They returned to Athens in 2004 to claim a silver medal. At the 2008 Olympics, in tough sailing conditions, Nick and Joe won their second silver medal in the 470 class.

Nick and Joe are now one of the longest lasting pairings in the sport of sailing.  After their success at the Beijing Olympics, Nick and Joe will spend 2009 sailing separately. Towards the end of 2009 Nick and Joe will reassess their plans for a 2012 campaign.

Very similar to Ben Ainslie’s tactics with his Olympic sailing campaigns, Joe was keen to take a year out of the Olympic classes sailing arena to gain experience and knowledge of other areas.  This includes working on a range of youth, charity and coaching projects, whilst still being involved with other sailing campaigns.

Nick, in the meantime, has teamed up with his childhood crew Pom Green with whom he won the 1995 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships and will continue to compete in the 470 throughout 2009.
