Winter Driving in Europe

Swedish authorities have issued new regulations in regard to driving on roads with wintery conditions. All cars that are driven during wintery conditions, from December 1st through March 31st, must be equipped with winter tires (tires especially developed for winter conditions). Wintery conditions are considered being in effect when there is snow, ice or frost on any part of the road, or adjacent roads, and surface. It is the responsibility of the car owner and driver to equip the vehicle appropriately for the prevailing weather conditions and adhere to any and all local European rules and regulations.

In light of the new regulations, the Factory Delivery Center (FDC) in Gothenburg can offer the following options:

  • No Driving: It is possible to travel to Gothenburg and just sign for the car.
  • Winter Wheel Rental: Studless winter wheels, without TPMS, will be available to rent for a maximum of 2 weeks to a cost of 700SEK at the FDC. This option is only available for cars being picked-up at and returned to the Factory Delivery Center in Gothenburg. It is the customers responsibility to contact the FDC via e-mail fdc@volvocars.com and request winter wheels. The customers name, order number and requested time for use of winter wheels must be included in the e-mail. Only a certain amount of wheels will be available (on a first come first served basis), no guarantees can be made in regard to availability.
  • Purchase winter wheels via the car order for XC60 (17" only), XC70 and XC90 ONLY (not available for other models). Winter wheels with TPMS can be purchased when the car order is placed. Winter wheels will be mounted on the car and regular all-season/summer wheels will be placed in the car. We are unable to arrange separate transport of the all-season/summer wheels.
