  • International artists turn Volvo XC60 into a work of art at Volvo Art Session

    For the third consecutive year, Volvo Car Switzerland organised the Volvo Art Session at the central train station in Zurich, Switzerland. Over the weekend of June 7-9, both emerging and established artists took part by getting creative with a Volvo XC60.

      • Volvo Cars' pioneering work on pedestrian protection wins Global NCAP Innovation Award

        Volvo Car Group's pioneering work on pedestrian protection has been rewarded with the 2013 Global NCAP Innovation Award. The prize was received by Prof. Lotta Jakobsson, Senior Technical Specialist Safety at Volvo Cars Safety Centre, at the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (ESV) Conference in Seoul, South Korea.
        At the ESV Conference, Prof. Lotta Jakobsson held a presentation about Volvo Cars' outstanding achievements within pedestrian protection. She presented a paper on the Pedestrian Airbag Technology in the new Volvo V40.
        "The purpose of the world's first airbag for pedestrians is to help protect these vulnerable road users in certain situations when they impact the bonnet and the area around the windscreen, where there may be a risk of serious head injuries," says Lotta Jakobsson.

              Volvo has rolled out yet another world first in automotive history - technology that detects and automatically brakes for cyclists swerving out in front of the car.

              This new function is a further evolution of Volvo’s current detection and auto brake technology. The new package will be called Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection with full auto brake. All cars equipped with pedestrian detection will also incorporate cyclist detection.

                      This is why Volvo Car Corporation joined the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium together with other European automakers and suppliers. The aim is to have a common platform for CAR 2 CAR communication ready within five years.
                      "In the future we will have advanced exchange of vital information between vehicles such as their position, speed and direction," says Erik Israelsson, Project Leader Cooperative ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) at Volvo Car Corporation.
                      Volvo Car Corporation recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the members of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium regarding the implementation of standardized technology for communication between cars from 2016 and onwards.
