New Volvo V60 Cross Country: Spirit of Adventure

For the most extraordinary journeys, it helps to have a vehicle that is far from ordinary. Meet the new Volvo V60 Cross Country that is ready to tackle all roads in all weathers.

The spirit of adventure is the driving force behind the new Volvo V60 Cross Country – a car that helps people maximise their love for the outdoors through its blend of rugged capability, advanced technology, embracing luxury and unique sense of style.

This has been the way of Volvo Cross Country models for more than 20 years, starting with the 1997 V70 XC that was first inspired by the extremes of Sweden’s harsh winters and long summer days.

Cross Country models were created to enable active lifestyles – to help people pursue their passions and give them confidence in varying terrain, yet also provide the versatility, luxury and engaging driving experience they expect of a Volvo.

The new Volvo V60 Cross Country, not currently confirmed for the Australian market, is the latest chapter in this success story.

To help you discover new experiences and places, the ground clearance for the V60 Cross Country is up to 75mm higher than that found beneath the regular V60 wagon courtesy of a specially developed Cross Country all-wheel-drive chassis and suspension that enhance the car’s off-road capability.

The extra ride height combines with tough body cladding to help protect the car’s sides and underbody from rough ground or flying stones as you tackle loose surfaces or bumpy tracks.

It’s not just the standard all-wheel drive that puts you in command in all weathers and on all roads. The V60 Cross Country is also equipped with a special Off-road driving mode to tailor the car’s character to suit your adventure, Hill Descent Control for driving down steep or slippery slopes, plus Electronic Stability Control and Corner Traction Control.

High-profile tyres that have a larger sidewall height – as opposed to low-profile tyres – also help to keep you and your passengers comfortable over bumpy terrain.

There’s a choice between petrol or diesel power, while mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will follow at a later stage.

The Volvo V60 Cross Country continues a tradition of delivering outstanding practicality and useful versatility to support everyday lifestyles as well as bigger, more adventurous journeys.

Clever packaging and generous proportions mean there’s plenty of space for passengers and equipment.

With a capacity of 529 litres up to the cargo cover, the boot compartment offers class-leading space. Whether it’s photography gear for work or rock-climbing equipment for pleasure, you can simply throw everything you need in the back.

Accessories to help you make the most of your pursuits include floor mats and load mats that allow you to throw muddy clothes or equipment in the back without worrying about getting the carpets or upholstery dirty, and a range of roof boxes, load and cycle carriers that help you carry all your kit.

However extreme the activity or challenging the conditions, the cabin of the V60 Cross Country is a sanctuary of calm thanks to the same uncluttered layout, high-quality materials and intuitive technology you’ll find in every Volvo V60.

Volvo Cars’ award-winning City Safety with Auto-brake is fitted as standard and forms part of a suite of available proven technology that makes the new V60 Cross Country one of the safest cars on the road … or even off-road.

Then there’s Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system formed around an intuitive tablet-style central touchscreen and fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G – all keeping drivers and occupants connected regardless of whether they travel in urban areas or across the countryside.

“The Volvo V60 Cross Country is every bit as refined as the other cars based on our SPA platform [such as the XC90, XC60 and V90],” says Henrik Green, senior vice president of research and development at Volvo Cars.

“The added versatility makes it at home in town and country, thanks to a higher seating position, increased ground clearance and dynamic all-wheel-drive capabilities.”
