Volvo Cars is Australia’s fastest-growing premium brand

Volvo Cars has achieved its best quarter for sales yet, both globally and locally.
Volvo Cars is the fastest-growing luxury brand in Australia, according to latest sales figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Commerce.
The company’s sales for the first three months of 2021 are up 67 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2020 – the highest growth of any premium car brand with total sales above 100 units.
Volvo Car Australia sold nearly a thousand vehicles in March, with its 992 units a 162 per cent increase on March 2020’s result.
While year-to-date sales of 2,617 keep the company on target for a record year, it remains conscious of the ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic including related global parts-supply shortages.
Volvo Cars has reported its best quarter in its history globally as well as locally, with worldwide sales increasing by 41 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Total sales during the period amounted to 185,698 cars, up from 131,889 cars in the same period last year.
Australia is one of Volvo Cars’ largest growth markets. Its 67 per cent year-on-year increase compares with 24 per cent for Europe and 40 per cent for the US. China sales have increased 118 per cent.
Locally, the XC40 compact luxury SUV is the most popular Volvo model, followed by the XC60 midsize luxury SUV and XC90 seven-seater luxury SUV.
The Volvo XC40 range will expand later in 2021 with the company’s first ever fully electric model, the Recharge Pure Electric. An update for the XC60 is also coming this year.
