Volvo Car Australia sales up 136 per cent in May

Volvo Cars cements its status as Australia’s fastest-growing luxury brand after posting triple-digit sales growth in May.
Volvo Car Australia’s sales have continued to surge in 2021, with the Swedish brand registering 136 per cent growth in May.
The company sold more than 900 vehicles in a month for the second time this year, with the 945 Volvos more than double the 400 units sold in May 2020.
The XC40 luxury compact SUV was the most popular Volvo in Australia in May, continuing its best-seller status and almost doubling sales year-to-date.
There is also major growth for Volvo Cars’ midsize and large luxury SUVs, the XC60 and XC90, respectively. The XC60 has also almost doubled its sales – up 95 per cent – compared with the same January-May period last year, while the XC90 is up 137 per cent in year-to-date figures.
May was also a strong month for the new Volvo S60 sports sedan, which had a month-on-month increase of 278 per cent when comparing May 2021 with May 2020.
Volvo Cars enjoyed the biggest growth of any luxury car brand in Australia in May (counting brands with sales above 50 units for the month).
Volvo Car Australia has sold 2257 vehicles so far in 2021 – year-to-date growth of 93 per cent that also makes it the fastest-growing luxury car brand locally.
Globally, Volvo Cars sales have increased 50 per cent compared with the same January-May period last year.
In the third quarter of 2021, Volvo Car Australia will introduce the brand’s first ever fully electric model – the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric.
The company’s showroom will also later this year introduce the Volvo V60 Cross Country wagon.
Volvo Car Australia is targeting 10,000 sales in 2021 – a result that would establish a new record locally for the Swedish brand.
