XC40 and XC60 win drive’s ‘Best Luxury SUV’ awards

Volvo luxury SUVs add to their impressive collection of awards with double success at the Drive Car of the Year 2021 Awards.
The Volvo XC40 and XC60 luxury SUVs have both won their respective categories in the Drive Car of the Year 2021 Awards.
Volvo’s XC40 beat two German rivals to be judged the Best Small Luxury SUV; the XC60 was voted above German and British competitors to take out the Best Medium Luxury SUV.
Drive praised the XC40 for delivering signature Volvo styling and attention to detail in a practical package.
“Stylish form, practical functionality, the XC40 represents everything we admire about Volvo,” wrote Drive. “Its greatest strength is perhaps the fact that the entry level model feels anything but entry grade, and the judges liked the cabin quality and insulation during testing.
“[The XC40] rides as comfortably on the open road, as it does effectively on the dynamic handling loop, and despite its compact dimensions, makes a strong case for the family road trip, where covering longer distances is no problem whatsoever.”
Drive said the XC40 “delivers the most compelling case” in a segment full of quality offerings, noting that every model grade of the compact Volvo luxury SUV offers a long list of standard equipment.

In the Luxury Medium SUV category, a “properly luxurious” interior and a modern approach to drivetrains – such as the segment-exclusive inclusion of a plug-in hybrid model – were key factors in the Volvo XC60’s latest win in the annual Drive awards that involve multiple judges and a week-long testing process.
“All models are all-wheel-drive and well equipped in both the safety and luxury spaces, with a surround camera and comprehensive safety package all part of the standard kit,” said Drive in its judgement summary of the XC60 that has now won its category for five consecutive years.
“What’s more, everything is presented with a tremendous sense of quality that lifts the Volvo from being a premium car to a true luxury one.
“On the road, the luxurious nature of the Volvo continues, offering a compliant and comfortable ride when in urban or touring environments, and the ability to be pleasantly enjoyable in a more dynamic one.”
“Bundle all this with a value package that leads the traditional German brands in this segment, and you’ll find the Volvo XC60 is a well-appointed luxury SUV that seamlessly blends cutting edge safety and technology with a sense of undeniable High Street style.”
The updated Volvo XC60 range enters Australian showrooms in the third quarter of 2021.
The same period will herald the arrival of the first ever fully electric Volvo, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric.
