Privacy Notice – Speech Messaging

In order for Volvo Car Corporation (“Volvo," “we”) to be able to provide you with all the functionality related to Speech to SMS Messaging, we need to process certain data.

1. Data Controller

The controller for all personal data collected and processed in relation to Speech Messaging is Volvo Car Corporation, a Swedish legal entity with company registration number 556074-3089 and whose address is Assar Gabrielssons Väg, SE-405 31, Gothenburg, Sweden.

2. Purpose of data processing

The purpose of the processing of personal data is for Volvo to be able to provide you with the Speech Messaging service, where we use voice recognition to turn your speech into text. Volvo uses a 3rd party service provider to perform the voice recognition and also to improve the service provider's service.

3. Data categories

3.1 Recorded Speech Data

A recorded voice of the message intended to be turned into text is sent from the vehicle to the cloud.

3.2 Vehicle Identity Number (VIN)

The VIN is used to verify that your car has a subscription for this service.

3.3 Text Message

The text message created by the 3rd party service provider is stored in the cloud and sent back and saved in your vehicle. The text message can be sent as an SMS.

4. Data sharing

The recorded speech data will be shared over the Internet with Volvo's cloud service and forwarded to the 3rd party service provider. Your Vehicle Identity Number will only be shared between the vehicle and the Volvo cloud. The text message is shared between the 3rd party service provider and your vehicle.

5. Legal grounds

Volvo is the controller of the above-mentioned data, while the 3rd party service provider processes the recorded speech data into a text string. The data listed above is processed on the grounds that such processing is necessary in order for Volvo to be able to deliver Speech Messaging.

6. Storing and deleting data

The Vehicle Identity Number will be stored on Volvo's cloud as long as the subscription is active. After the subscription is inactive, the VIN will be deleted after 90 days if this does not conflict with local law. The 3rd party service provider stores the recorded speech data together with the text message for 90 days.
