Data transfer between car and workshop via Wi-Fi

Volvo's workshops use a specific Wi-Fi network for secure data transfer that your car can connect to during a visit. By transferring diagnostic information and software, among other things, via the network, the visits can be simplified and streamlined.

At a workshop visit a technician may wish to connect your car to the workshop's network via Wi-Fi to perform fault-tracing and install software.

Manual connection to the workshop

Connection to the network is normally handled by a service technician. The technician can connect your car to the workshop's network by pressing three times on the remote control key's lock button. It is therefore important to take the remote control key with buttons with you when you visit a workshop.

Using this method to connect to a Wi-Fi network is only possible when connecting to a specific workshop network. It is not possible to reach other Wi-Fi networks in this way.

When the car is connected to the Wi-Fi network, the symbol appears in the center display.

The car must not be driven when it is connected to the workshop's network and system.

Standard function from May 2017

From and including week 17, 2017, the models affected are manufactured with the function pre-installed. For cars from the models affected that are manufactured before this date, there is the option to update the car's software at an authorized workshop in order to have access to the function.
