Create and register a Volvo ID

To gain access to all connected services you must create a Volvo ID and then register it to your vehicle. This article describes how to create and register a Volvo ID to your vehicle.

The article applies for XC90 from model year 2016 to model year 2019. S90 and V90 from model year 2017 to model year 2019. XC40 and XC60 from model year 2018 to model year 2019. S60 and V60 of model year 2019.

Create a personal Volvo ID

To create a Volvo ID, you need to register an email address or a cell phone number and follow the instructions in the confirmation message sent to you as part of the process.

A Volvo ID can be created as follows:

  • Via the Volvo ID app in the car's center display.
  • Via the Volvo Cars app1.
  • Via your Volvo retailer, who can help you create a Volvo ID on request.

If you choose to create, or have already created, a Volvo ID using a method other than via the Volvo ID app in the vehicle's center display, you must also register your Volvo ID to the vehicle in order to access all functions. For more information on how to register your Volvo ID to the vehicle, see the section "Registering your Volvo ID to the vehicle" further down in this article.

To remember when creating a Volvo ID

For security reasons, the username and password you choose when creating your Volvo ID must meet several requirements.

Username:
  • The username must be a valid email address or a cell phone number that you have access to.
  • The length of the e-mail address must not exceed a total of 60 characters.
Password:
  • The password must consist of a minimum of eight and a maximum of 20 characters.
  • It must contain upper case letters (A-Z), lower case letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9).
  • The following special characters can also be used (# $%! & '* + ? - / = ^ _ `{|} ~).

Creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo Cars app

This instruction is only applicable to vehicles equipped with Volvo On Call2.

Ensure that you have the latest version of the Volvo Cars app3.
Select Create a Volvo ID from the start page and follow the instructions.

When creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo Cars app, you also have to register your Volvo ID in the vehicle to get access to a range of online functions. See instructions below under "Registering your Volvo ID to the vehicle."

Creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo ID vehicle app

If not already done so, download the Volvo ID app from Download Center in the center display's app view. For information on how to download apps, see Downloading and updating apps.
Start the app and register an email address or a cell phone number.
Follow the instructions that will be sent automatically to this email address/cell phone number.
A Volvo ID has now been created and the ID is automatically registered to the vehicle. The Volvo ID services can now be used.

Registering your Volvo ID to the vehicle

If Volvo ID was created via the web or using the Volvo Cars with Sensus Connect app, register it to the vehicle:
Download the Volvo ID app from Download Center in the center display's app view. For information on how to download apps, see Downloading and updating apps.

 Note

To download apps the vehicle must be connected to the internet. For information on how to connect your car to the Internet, see Connect to the Internet via your mobile phone (WiFi).

Start the app and enter your Volvo ID (email address/cell phone number).
Follow the instructions that will be automatically sent to the email address or cell phone number.
Your Volvo ID is now registered to the vehicle. The Volvo ID services can now be used.

The available services can vary over time and depend on equipment level and market.

  • XC90 and XC90 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid of model years 2016 to 2022.

  • S90, V90 and V90 Cross Country of model years 2017 to 2021.

  • XC60, XC60 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, V90 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid and S90 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid of model years 2018 to 2021.

  • XC40 from model year 2018 onward.

  • V60, V60 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, V60 Cross Country, S60, S60 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid of model years 2019 to 2022.

  • XC40 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid from model year 2020 onward.

  • Model range may vary from market to market.
