Creating and registering a Volvo ID
To gain access to all connected services you must create a Volvo ID which you then register to your vehicle. This article describes how to create and register a Volvo ID to your vehicle.
The article applies for V40, V70, XC70 and S80 from model year 2015 to model year 2019. S60, V60 and XC60 from model year 2014 to model year 2018.
Create a personal Volvo ID
To create a Volvo ID, you must register an email address or a cell phone number and follow the instructions in the confirmation message sent to you. Create a Volvo ID as follows:
- Via your Volvo
- Via the Volvo Cars app1
- Via your Volvo retailer, who can help you create a Volvo ID on request.
If you choose to create, or have already created, a Volvo ID using a method other than via the Volvo ID app in the vehicle's center display, you must also register your Volvo ID to the vehicle in order to access all functions. For more information on how to register your Volvo ID to the vehicle, see the section "Registering your Volvo ID to the vehicle" further down in this article.
To remember when creating a Volvo ID
For security reasons, the username and password you choose when creating your Volvo ID must meet several requirements.
- The username must be a valid email address or a cell phone number that you have access to.
- The length of the e-mail address must not exceed a total of 60 characters.
- The password must consist of a minimum of eight and a maximum of 20 characters.
- It must contain upper case letters (A-Z), lower case letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9).
- The following special characters can also be used (# $%! & '* + ? - / = ^ _ `{|} ~).

Creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo Cars app2
This instruction is only applicable to vehicles equipped with Volvo On Call.
When creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo Cars app, you also have to register your Volvo ID in the vehicle to get access to a range of online functions.

Incomplete registration of Volvo ID
If you experience problems with Volvo ID in your connected vehicle, ensure that you completed all the steps in the set-up guide (according to the instructions above). You can also check the status of your Volvo ID in your vehicle:

The status of your Volvo ID will be shown in the display. If the set-up has been successful, your Volvo ID will be displayed as registered.
If your Volvo ID awaits activation or if your Volvo ID does not appear, see section 'Register Volvo ID in your connected vehicle' above or contact your local Volvo dealer or Volvo Cars customer service.
Delete all personal information
If you sell your Volvo and it is equipped with Sensus Connect, you should remove all personal data from the vehicle and reset the factory Settings. See Delete user data from your Volvo for details.
