Changed start/stop symbols

The start/stop function switches off the engine temporarily at a standstill and then starts it automatically when it is needed.

Updated appearance of warning messages for Pilot Assist, Cruise Control, Adaptive Cruise Control and Speed Limiter

For the Pilot Assist, Cruise Control (CC), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Speed Limiter (SL) functions, the appearance of certain warning messages will be updated with the software update released in May 2018.

Updated center display

With the Sensus Connect upgrade, available from May 2017, the center display in your Volvo has been given a new and intuitive appearance. Navigation, the media player and home view have all been updated in order to simplify their use. Settings and buttons that are used frequently have been highlighted, making it easier for the driver to reach them.

Software Updates

Volvo continuously updates the systems in its vehicles and the services you are offered. Updating the software in your vehicle can give you access to many new functions and improvements. You can update the software in your Volvo to the latest version when your vehicle is serviced at an authorized Volvo dealer.

Functionality after upgrading may vary depending on market, model, model year and options.

Updates from and including November 2019

  • Applies to the Twin Engine: While the correct charging time is being calculated, --:-- will be shown in the instrument panel.
  • Not XC40: All Twin Engine vehicles with a 60- or 70-liter fuel tank will get a new low fuel warning light threshold. This threshold will be changed from 50 km to 90 km (from 31 to 56 miles).
  • For XC40: Improvement of calculated range to provide more stable values, for example in stop-and-go traffic.
  • Memory setting for rain sensor set to "On" as default.
  • For XC60/XC60 B4/B5 from model year 2020 onwards: A battery symbol has been added to the instrument panel to indicate when the vehicle is regenerating.
  • Adjustment of message positions – all messages will be more visible in the display.
  • Not XC40: New message clarifying when the automatic parking brake is being calibrated.
  • Changed notification for filling of AdBlue from 4.5 to 6.5 liters.
  • Infotainment system:
    • Improved logic for updating maps online.

    • For vehicles with High Performance Pro (Harmon Kardon): New function Vehicle Noise Compensation automatically adjusts the volume of the audio system to compensate for higher blower speeds and wind noise at increased speeds.
    • New function in the Spotify app: Daily Mixes and Pin-pairing, which subsequently offer automatic login in the vehicle. For more information, see the Spotiy website.

Updates from and including April 2019

  • Improved logic for rear seat belt reminders. The audible signal will stop when the vehicle stops and restart when the vehicle is moving.
  • For Europe and US only: A new function, Volvo Data Analytics, has been integrated to improve the overall quality of our vehicles. This function will use a small portion of the vehicle's data plan.
  • Changed optimization in the infotainment system for engine noise compensation. There is a slight change in sound.
  • Improved feedback for Pilot Assist. Under certain circumstances, the steering wheel will vibrate slightly when Pliot Assist steering assist is disengaged; Adaptive Cruise Control remains active. The same vibration is used that Lane Keeping Aid uses when the vehicle is starting to veer over the lane markings.
  • Does not apply to Twin Engine: Changed messages in the instrument panel (12-inch) for the Start/Stop function. Start/Stop symbol has been added and the words "Ready" and "Off" have been removed.
  • Europe only: Connected Safety becomes available for more markets.
  • Updating of Apple CarPlay:
    • Simplified start after an iPhone has been connected.
    • Visual notification of incoming SMS text messages and other notifications from an iPhone.

  • Update of adjustment of lumbar and side bolster support that is set and stored in a driver profile. The supports are adjusted as before when the door is unlocked with the key that is connected to the profile, but with the addition that they are adjusted once more when the vehicle is started to take into account the actual pressure that occurs when the driver sits in the driver's seat.
  • Driver profiles: The list of driver profiles has been updated with information to provide a clearer overview. If a profile has a key connected to it, it will now be shown listed under the profile name. In order to make it simpler to save changes made to a protected driver profile, a "Save" button has been added to the active profile in the quick access menu for driver profiles.
  • The vehicle can be driven when the electrical parking brake is deactivated, even if "Auto hold" is on and the driver's seat belt is not fastened.

Updates from and including May 2018

  • Applies to the Twin Engine: The duration in which the fuel tank isolation valve is open has been extended.
  • Update of the dimming function for the vehicle's rearview mirrors that provides a greater difference between the different modes Light, Normal and Dark. See the manual for your vehicle for more information on Rearview Mirror Auto Dimming.
  • Privacy and data has been updated. Function for general activation and deactivation of data sharing in the vehicle has been removed. Activation and deactivation of data sharing can instead only be selected individually for each connected service and for downloaded apps.
  • Updated appearance and design of certain messages for Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter.
  • Lane assistance, (Lane Keeping Aid, LKA), updating and change to how the system works to sense if the driver has his/her hands on the steering wheel and is actively steering or not, which is a condition for the function. This can be noticed by a slight change when a warning for this appears in the driver's display. The warning sometimes occurs faster than previously and sometimes slower, with the aim of adapting better to different situations.
  • Due to the new EURO-NCAP requirements, the audible seat belt reminder for the rear seats will remain on for a longer period of time if the belt is unbuckled before the vehicle has stopped.
  • Does not apply to XC40 and XC40 Twin Engine: Changed position for road signs in the head-up display for certain models when the navigation system is being used and guidance is inactive. The road signs are now displayed to the right only if navigation route has been activated.
  • Does not apply for China: For reasons of convenience, Pilot Assist cannot be activated if a trailer, bicycle holder or similar is connected to the vehicle's electrical system.
  • Voice recognition: General improvements and fixes implemented, e.g. better recognition for all languages, better recognition immediately upon start for English

Updates from and including March 2018

  • The Volvo On Call app has been improved and updated so that notifications are repeated fewer times.
  • Updating of the driver profile view in the center display. The Protect Profile and Connect key options have changed places and there is the option that Save current settings to the profile is only visible if Protect Profile has been selected. When Save current settings to the profile is selected, the text in the window is changed to "Saving" for a few seconds, which confirms that changes to the settings are performed.
