Importing POI files

Many companies offer so-called POI (Point Of Interest) files for download. With these files, in some cases, it is possible to supplement Volvo maps with information such as speed cameras, camp sites etc. POI files of GPX format work best with the Sensus RTI system, but can sometimes also be imported to models with Sensus Navigation.

POI files for Sensus RTI or Sensus Navigation

Since POI files are offered by several different manufacturers, Volvo cannot guarantee that they always work faultlessly with Volvo's navigation system. When importing POI files to Sensus Navigation, you may experience that certain information is not included.

POI-files work best with the Sensus RTI system. For further information about Sensus RTI, see Map updates for older navigation systems.

Import POI file to Sensus RTI

The file format for POI files and how they are downloaded is determined by the relevant manufacturer/distributor, which means that the process of downloading may be different from different suppliers. The following instructions are examples on how the import may look for the Sensus RTI system.

16w06 - Support site - Sensus Navigation settings menu - Import/Edit Points of Interests
Download the POI file. If the file is not of GPX format, it must first be converted to GPX1. If a POI icon is also wanted, it must be named the same as the GPX file, but in BMP format (e.g. speed camera.xpx, speed camera.bmp).
Save the POI file to an empty USB memory.
Insert the USB memory in the car's USB socket. Then import the file under SettingsImport/edit MyPOI.
Select Import and "OK", then follow the instructions on the screen.

When the import is complete, the following settings can be made for the new POI group:

  • The name of the group can be changed
  • The map's MyPOI icon can be changed (if an icon is included in the imported POI file is automatically selected)
  • One of 3 sounds can be selected (to be alerted when the car approaches the MyPOI icon)
  • Select to show the MyPOI icon on the map or not

Once all selections have been made press Store and "OK" to end the import.

Import POI file to Sensus Navigation

It is also possible to import POI files to Sensus Navigation, but Volvo cannot guarantee that all information is included as these files are offered by many different manufacturers and are not always compatible with Sensus Navigation. Avoid downloading information about speed cameras, as this information is updated via map updates. The following instructions is an example on how the import may look.

16w06 - Support site - Sensus Navigation settings menu - Import/export stored locations
Download the POI file. If the file is not of GPX format, it must first be converted to GPX1.
Save the POI file to an empty USB memory.
Insert the USB memory in the car's USB socket. Then import the POI file under SettingsImport/export stored locations.

 Note

The type of information allowed to be shown on the map is regulated by national law.

Since GPX files are offered by several different manufacturers, Volvo cannot guarantee that all GPX files will work with all of Volvo's systems.

There are many programs for converting GPX files that can be downloaded from the internet, but because these are offered by various manufacturers, Volvo cannot be held responsible for the program's functionality.

Avoid downloading information about speed cameras to Sensus Navigation, as this information is updated via map updates.

The function's availability may vary depending on market and car model/model year.
