Restrict car functions with Red Key

When you lend your car you can restrict the car's functions using a Red Key. You can choose to set a speed limit or a max volume for the loudspeakers in advance.

IntelliSafe safety check when starting

When you start the car after it has been switched off completely, a safety check of the car's driver support systems is shown in the driver display. This is a new visual function that is being added with software to be released in November 2017.

When you leave your car for a service, at a hotel or similar, you can use the valet locking function to lock the glove box, trunk, luggage compartment lid, tailgate or rear seat. The valet locking function varies depending on car model.

For example, the functions can help you to maintain a certain time interval to the vehicle in front of you, prevent a collision by giving a warning and braking the car, or help with parking.

If a larger animal appears in front of your car, Large Animal Detection, which is a part of City Safety, can, in certain situations, warn you about the animal and provide brake assistance.

Updated appearance of warning messages for Pilot Assist, Cruise Control, Adaptive Cruise Control and Speed Limiter

For the Pilot Assist, Cruise Control (CC), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Speed Limiter (SL) functions, the appearance of certain warning messages will be updated with the software update released in May 2018.

Tips when using Pilot Assist

Pilot Assist is a comfort function that can provide you with steering assistance and help you to maintain the distance to the vehicle in front of you. Initially, you may find it feels a little strange when Pilot Assist helps to control your car, and you may need to drive a few miles with Pilot Assist before you feel completely at home with the function. Below are some tips that you may find useful when using Pilot Assist.

Automatic start of seat heating

The function for automatic start of seat heating varies depending on car model and differs between the driver's and passenger sides.

Associate driver profile to key

Personal settings for the seats, climate, audio, navigation and communication can be saved in the driver profiles and associate with one of the car's keys.

Edit and protect driver profile

You can save personal settings specific to you in a driver profile by protecting the profile. The settings currently active at the time of locking are then saved. You can also name or rename a profile whenever you wish.

Operating the tailgate with a foot movement

When you have your hands full, you can open or close the tailgate with a simple foot movement under the car's rear bumper. The function is an option and varies depending on the car model.

Pilot Assist and Lane Keeping Aid

Pilot Assist is a comfort function that can help you to keep your car within its lane and maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front of you. Lane Keeping Aid is a function which, in a similar way, can help you in some situations to reduce the risk of your car accidentally leaving its lane.

Pilot Assist

Pilot Assist can vary depending on model year. The following information applies to model year 2017.

Pilot Assist can help you to steer your car between the lane markings, as well as maintain a preset speed or distance to the vehicle ahead. This function can also help you to maintain an even line on the roadway by keeping track of the lane lines.

What does Pilot Assist do?

  • Can help to keep the car within its lane by assisting steering in some cases.
  • Can help to maintain a preset speed or the distance to the vehicle ahead by means of acceleration and braking operations.

Activate/deactivate Pilot Assist

Scroll forward to Pilot Assist using the steering wheel arrow buttons. Press steering wheel button to start Pilot Assist.

Note

With Sensus Connect software from May 2017, Pilot Assist cannot be activated if a trailer, bicycle rack or similar item has been connected to the car's electrical system.

How do I know that Pilot Assist is on?

Symbols in the car's driver's display let you know when the function is on.

When the steering wheel in the middle is gray, Pilot Assist is on but steering assistance is not active.

Gray steering wheel = Pilot Assist is on but steering assistance is not active.

When the steering wheel is green, Pilot Assist is on and steering assistance is active:

Conditions for Pilot Assist

The following is required in order for Pilot Assist to help drive the car and contribute to steering assistance:

  • Pilot Assist must be on switched on using the steering wheel button.
  • The driver must have their safety belt on and the driver's door must be closed.
  • The side markings of the lane must be clearly visible and detected by the car. If the car cannot detect the lane markings, steering assistance may not operate/resume operation without warning.
  • The speed must not exceed 140 km/h (87 mph).
  • The driver must keep their hands on the steering wheel.

Lane assist

Lane Keeping Aid (LKALane Keeping Aid) can provide steering assistance and/or a warning to the driver when the vehicle is about to leave its lane unintentionally. The function is active between 65-200 km/h (40-125 mph) on roads with clearly visible side markings.

What does Lane Keeping Aid do?

  • Lane Keeping Aid can provide the driver with steering assistance, steering the car back into its lane and/or providing warnings using acoustic signals or steering wheel vibration.

Activating/deactivating Lane Keeping Aid

Activate/deactivate the function pressing the symbol for LKA in the center display's function view.

How do I know that Lane Keeping Aid is on?

Symbols in the car's driver display shows the function status.

Gray symbol in the driver's display means that the function is on but that the conditions for LKA have not been met.

White symbol in the driver's display means that the conditions for LKA have been met and that the function is available.

16w17 - Support site - Lane keeping aid - Orange (started)

Orange symbol in the driver's display means that LKA provides steering assistance back into the lane and/or gives a warning with sound or vibration in the steering wheel.

Requirements for Lane Keeping Aid

For this function to provide steering assistance the following is required:

  • The car must maintain a speed between 65-200 km/h (40-125 mph).
  • The side markings of the lane must be clearly visible and detected by the car.
  • The driver must keep their hands on the steering wheel in order for Lane Keeping Aid to provide steering assistance.

Warning

The functions described here are supplementary aids - they cannot manage all situations in all conditions.

The driver is always responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is driven in a safe manner and in accordance with applicable traffic rules and regulations.
