Valet locking

When you leave your car for a service, at a hotel or similar, you can use the valet locking function to lock the glove box, trunk, luggage compartment lid, tailgate or rear seat. The valet locking function varies depending on car model.

Valet locking

Two types of code are involved when using valet locking:

  • A security code that you enter when you use the function for the first time
  • A PIN that is a single-use code - you choose a new PIN each time you activate valet locking

If you forget your PIN, or if the wrong PIN is entered three times, use the security code as a recovery code. Therefore, save the security code in a safe place.

Choosing security code

To select your security code the first time you use valet locking:

16w06 - Support site - Private locking

1. Press Private Locking in the center display's function view.

2. Choose a security code in the pop-up window that appears and press Confirm.

Using valet locking

After choosing your security code, you can start using valet locking. Activate/deactivate the function in the center display's function view as follows:

16w06 - Support site - Private locking

1. Press Private Locking to activate/deactivate valet locking.

2. Choose a one-time code and press Confirm. You then use this one-time code during unlocking. The next time you activate valet locking, you can choose a new code.

 Note

For the valet lock function to be activated the car must be in at least ignition position I.

Forgotten PIN

If you have forgotten your PIN code, you can deactivate private locking using the security code you entered when you activated the function for the first time. If you have forgotten your security code, contact an authorized Volvo dealer for assistance with unlocking.

Unlock with Volvo On Call1

It is also possible to deactivate valet locking with Volvo On Call 1 or with the Volvo Cars app 2.

Resetting the car's system

If the car's system has been reset to factory settings, the security code is also reset and must be re-chosen.

How does private locking differ between different models?

The valet locking function can vary depending on car model. Below you will find information on how the function differs between different car models.

XC90

The glove box and tailgate can be locked with valet locking.

XC40 and XC60

The tailgate can be locked with valet locking. The glovebox is locked with the enclosed key.

V60 and V90

The tailgate can be locked with valet locking.

S60 and S90

The luggage compartment lid can be locked with valet locking - the function locks the rear seat in the upright position and prevents the rear seat from being folded down.

The rear seat must be in an upright position when private locking is activated in order to be locked. A rear seat in a lowered position will not be locked.
