If the tank valve is closed on the Twin Engine during refueling

When refueling your Twin Engine, it may be handy to know that the valve in the fuel filler flap closes a short while after you have pressed the button to open the fuel filler flap. If the valve closes before you are ready to refuel, you will need to press the button to open the fuel filler flap and reopen the valve.

To open the fuel filler flap and valve, press the button on the instrument panel.
There is pressure equalization in the fuel tank, which means there is a slight delay when the flap is opened. The message Preparing for refuel and Fuel lid will be unlocked when ready appears in the instrument panel,1 followed by Fuel tank and Ready for refueling. Your car is now ready for refueling.

 Note

Note that the valve in the tank may close without prior warning shortly after you have pressed the button to open the fuel filler flap. If the valve closes while you are refueling, repeat the above step to open the fuel filler flap and valve again.

Tips when refueling

Press the button to open the fuel filler flap just before you plan to refuel so that you have time to refuel before the valve in the tank is closed.

You can extend the time before the closing of the valve in the tank by leaving the driver's door slightly open while you refuel.

  1. 1 For XC40 Twin Engine, the message Fuel tank and Fuel filler lid open is shown instead.
