Volvo Cars and AB Volvo

The Volvo name can trace its origins as far back as 1915, at ball bearing manufacturer SKF. In 1927 AB Volvo was formed to make vehicles in Gothenburg. 

Since 1999 Volvo Car Corporation has no longer been part of AB Volvo, but Volvo Cars and AB Volvo still share the same brand name. A new jointly owned company, Volvo Trademark Holding AB, was established in 1999 to deal with brand matters for both companies.

Volvo Cars is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding of China. AB Volvo is a publicly-held company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, with shares listed on OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm.

Volvo Cars and AB Volvo remain separate entities but cooperate in research and development, and brand-related investments such as Volvo Ocean Race.

Responsible business

Our comprehensive Code of Conduct, which is based on existing policies, is our way of ensuring that we conduct business in an ethical and compliant way. The Code applies to everyone within Volvo Cars, as well as consultants and agency personnel working under the direction of Volvo Cars. We also expect that all of our business contacts and commercial partners should be governed by the same or similar principles stipulated in the Code of Conduct. It is also an important part of our commitment to Sustainability.

Volvo Cars in China

In 2014 China replaced the United States as Volvo Cars’ largest market, with 81,221 cars sold, a 32.8% increase on 2013. The best-selling Volvo in China was the XC60, followed by the S60L sedan, a model specifically aimed at the Chinese market.
 

The establishment of three manufacturing plants, a growing dealership network and the continuous expansion of our product offering are the underlying factors in the continued success of Volvo Cars in China.
