Share an Internet connection via a Wi-Fi hotspot

When your car is connected, it is possible to share your Internet connection so that other devices in the car can use it.

Internet sharing via a Wi-Fi hotspot

If the car is connected to the Internet then you have the option to share the Internet connection with other devices1. To share your Internet connection via a Wi-Fi hotspot, follow the instructions below.

Instructions

The network operator (SIM card) must support tethering (distribution of Internet connection).
Press Settings in top view.
Press CommunicationCar Wi-Fi Hotspot.
Press Network name and name your Internet sharing.
Press Password and select a password which then has to be entered on connecting devices.
Press Frequency band and select the frequency band at which the Internet sharing should transmit data. Note that choosing a frequency band is not available in all markets.
Activate/deactivate by checking/unchecking the Car Wi-Fi Hotspot box.
If Wi-Fi was previously used as a connection source, confirm your change of connection.
It is now possible for external devices to connect to the car's Internet sharing (Wi-Fi-hotspot).

Activation of Wi-Fi hotspot can cause additional charges from your network operator.

Contact your network operator about data traffic costs.

The connection status is shown by means of a symbol in the status field in the centre display.

Press Connected devices to view a list of currently connected devices.

  • XC90 and XC90 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid from model year 2016 to 2022.

  • S90, V90 and V90 Cross Country from model year 2017 to 2021.

  • XC60, XC60 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, V90 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid and S90 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid from model year 2018 to 2021.

  • XC40 from model year 2018 onwards.

  • V60, V60 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, V60 Cross Country, S60, S60 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid from model year 2019 to 2022.

  • XC40 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid from model year 2020 onwards.

  • The range of models may vary depending on market.
