Volvo. Recharged.
Our cars have always been designed to help protect people. We will now design them to help protect the planet too.
For a safer future
Volvo Recharge. Responsible luxury.
We introduce Volvo Recharge – our new line of advanced pure electric and plug-in hybrid cars, designed to give you a refined and more sustainable driving experience. The cars you trust to protect your family, now also help protect their future.
Every new Volvo car we launch will be electrified.
Today, we are the only traditional car maker to offer plug-in hybrid options on all our models.
And over the next five years, we will launch five new fully electric cars.
It is our ambition that by 2025, half of the cars we sell will be electric.
Introducing the XC40 Recharge
The first pure electric Volvo SUV is here. Designed for the way you live, and built to help keep you and the planet safer.
Electric is not enough
It’s a start. But it’s not the entire solution. To protect the safety of our planet, we must do more than merely electrify our cars. Our vision is to be climate neutral across our full value chain by 2040 – a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement goal. So everything we do, has to be recharged.
Operations. Recharged.
Supply chain. Recharged.
Driving. Recharged.
Most of the total carbon emissions from a plug-in hybrid car occur when it is being driven on petrol. To encourage drivers of Volvo plug-in hybrids to drive as sustainably as possible, we aim to introduce ways to reward driving in pure electric mode. Already today, all new Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrids come with one year of free electricity on some markets.

Taking action for ethical battery sourcing
To make a real difference in terms of sustainability, reducing CO2 emissions is not enough. We also need to ensure that our electric car batteries are sourced in an ethical way. Full traceability of battery raw materials, such as cobalt, is a major sustainability challenge for car makers. At Volvo Cars, we are committed to an ethical supply chain. And as the first car maker, we now take that commitment even further by using blockchain technology to monitor and trace our cobalt through the whole supply chain on a global level. This technology significantly boosts transparency of the raw material supply chain. And most of all: it helps us ensure that the cobalt used in our electrified cars is sourced responsibly.
