Getting started with voice control

Voice control allows you to control functions in the car, e.g. radio or a connected mobile phone using spoken commands. In cars equipped with Sensus Navigation you can also interact with the navigation system.

What is voice control?

The voice control system allows you to control certain infotainment and climate functions using voice commands. The system can respond with speech and by showing information in the driver display.

Voice control is an aid that can facilitate the use of different commands in your car. In principle, it works like a normal application in which you enter information in a fixed sequence in order to perform a task, but instead of typing on a keyboard you use voice commands. It may therefore be a good idea to learn how, and in what order, a voice command should be spoken in order to achieve the desired result.

Below is an introduction with general instructions on how you can get started with using voice control in your car. By following the links in "Related information" you can read more about more specific use of voice control in five different areas: "navigation1", "car climate", "phone", "text messages" and "radio and media".

Getting started with voice recognition

 Note

Settings and menus in the centre display vary depending on software version.

To give commands via the voice control system, you have a "dialogue" with the system. Briefly pressing the voice control button P5–1507–Voice control button on the right-hand side of the steering wheel starts a dialogue. When you have pressed this button, you will hear a beep and the voice control symbol will be shown in the driver display.

This shows that the system has started listening and you can now start to input commands via speech. As soon as you start to talk, the recognition is trained to understand your voice, this takes several seconds and is performed automatically, which means that you do not need to start voice training manually.

Use voice control

When you have a dialogue with the system, speak at a natural pace and using a normal conversational tone. In general, the system works by listening for a basic command which is then followed by more detailed data that specifies what you want the system to do.

To change the system volume, turn the volume knob while the voice is speaking. You can use other buttons while using voice control. However, other sound will be muted during dialogue with the system, which means that it is not possible to execute any functions linked with sound using the buttons.

Cancel voice control

To stop voice control, do so in one of the following ways:

  • Hold down the voice control button P5–1507–Voice control button until you hear two beeps.
  • Briefly press the voice control button P5–1507–Voice control button and say ”Cancel”.

Voice control is also stopped if you do not reply during a dialogue. The system will first ask for a reply three times and if there is still no response then the system will be stopped automatically.

Set destination using the phone book's contact list

If you want to set the address for a contact in the phone's phone book as destination then you can do this with the "Go to [contact]" command. However, for the address to be found in the database requires that the address is entered with the correct spelling and without abbreviations. To spell-check addresses in HERE's database, go to wego.here.com

Updating voice control

The voice control system in your car is under continuous improvement. You can download update files yourself. For more information, see Updating voice control.

General commands

The following commands can frequently be used regardless of the situation:

  • "Repeat" – repeats the last voice instruction.
  • "Cancel" – terminates the dialogue.
  • "Help" – starts a help dialogue. The system replies with the commands available in the current situation, a prompt or an example.
