Create and register a Volvo ID

You have to create a Volvo ID which you then register to your car in order to be able to access all connected services. This article describes how to create and register a Volvo ID to your car.

Create a personal Volvo ID

To create a Volvo ID, you must register an e-mail address and follow the instructions in the confirmation message sent to you. You can create a Volvo ID in the following ways:

  • Via your Volvo
  • Via volvocars.com

    Not available for all markets.

  • Via your Volvo dealer who can help you to create a Volvo ID on request

If you choose to create, or have already created, a Volvo ID using a method other than via the Volvo ID app in the car's centre display, you also need to register your Volvo ID to the car for access to all functions. For more information on how you register your Volvo ID to the car, see the section "Registering your Volvo ID to the car" lower down in this article.

Things to bear in mind when creating a Volvo ID

For security reasons, there are a number of requirements that need to be met when you choose username and password when creating a Volvo ID.

Username:

  • The username must be a valid e-mail address that you have access to.
  • The length of the e-mail address must not exceed 60 characters in total.

Password:

  • Your password must consist of at least eight and no more than 20 characters.
  • It must contain upper case letters (A-Z), lower case letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9).
  • It is also possible to use certain special characters (# $%! & '* + ? - / = ^ _ `{|} ~).

Creating a Volvo ID via the centre console in your Volvo (equipped with Sensus Connect):

On the centre console: Press the connection button twice and select Apps.

In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Settings and press OK/MENU.

In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Volvo ID and enter your e-mail address under register Volvo ID. For problems with entering special characters, see Character wheel and keyboard.

You will receive an e-mail with instructions to help you complete the process.

Creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo On Call app

Only applicable to Volvo On Call markets

This instruction is only applicable for cars equipped with Volvo On Call.

Ensure that you have the latest version of the Volvo On Call app

The latest version of the app can, for example, be downloaded from Apple App Store or Google Play.

Select Create a Volvo ID from the homepage and follow the instructions.

When creating a Volvo ID via the Volvo On Call app you also need to register the e-mail address in the car to gain access to a range of Internet-connected functions.

Registering your Volvo ID in your connected car

To register your Volvo ID in your car and access Internet-connected features, follow the instructions below:

Create a Volvo ID as described in the instructions above (if you do not have a Volvo ID already).

Ensure that your car is connected to the Internet. For more information, see Connect to the Internet via mobile phone (Bluetooth) or Connect to the Internet via mobile phone (Wi-Fi).

On the centre console: Press the connection button twice and select Apps.

In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Settings and then Volvo ID.

In the Sensus Connect menu: Enter your e-mail address under Register Volvo ID. If you have problems with entering special characters, see Character wheel and keyboard.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail in order to complete the registration.

Incomplete registration of Volvo ID

If you have problems with Volvo ID in your connected car, make sure you have completed all steps in the account setup process as described in the instructions above. You can also check the status of your Volvo ID in your car:

On the centre console: Press the connection button twice and select Apps.

In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Settings and then Volvo ID.

The status of your Volvo ID will be shown in the display. If setup has been successful, your Volvo ID will be displayed as registered.

If your Volvo ID is awaiting activation or if your Volvo ID is not shown, see the paragraph 'Register Volvo ID in your connected car' above or contact your local Volvo dealer or Volvo Cars customer service.

Remove all personal data

If you sell your Volvo and it is equipped with Sensus Connect, you should delete all personal data from the car and restore it to factory settings. See Delete user data from your Volvo for details.
