Differences between insurance, warranty and roadside assistance

These services cover different types of car-related issues. Understanding the differences can help you contact the right provider.

Warranty

A warranty covers faults caused by manufacturing and material defects. Warranty terms and coverage periods vary by market and car.

Warranty typically does not cover:
  • Accidental damage
  • Wear and tear
  • Misuse or neglect

If you believe a fault may be covered by a warranty, contact or visit an authorised Volvo workshop. The workshop will assess the fault and advise whether the issue is covered by the warranty.

Insurance

Insurance helps cover financial losses resulting from events such as accidents, theft, fire, weather, or damage involving third parties. It is provided by an insurance company and coverage depends on your insurance policy. Volvo support does not handle insurance claims.

Insurance typically does not cover:
  • Manufacturing defects
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Most mechanical breakdowns

To make an insurance claim, contact your insurer and follow their claims process.

Roadside assistance

Roadside assistance provides help if your car cannot be driven due to issues such as a breakdown, a discharged battery, or a puncture. Depending on your car, market and coverage, assistance may be available through Volvo Assistance or another roadside assistance provider.

Roadside assistance typically does not cover:
  • Repair costs
  • Accident damage repairs
  • Defects covered by a warranty

You can read about how to contact roadside assistance in your car's user manual.
