The remote control key's key blade and replacing the battery

The remote control key contains a detachable key blade that can be used, amongst other things, to unlock the left-hand front door if the battery in the remote control key is weak or empty. You can replace the battery in your remote control key yourself.

The remote control key contains a detachable key blade that can be used, amongst other things, to unlock the left-hand front door, such as if, for example, the battery in the remote control key is weak or empty. The key blade can also be used to activate and deactivate the mechanical child safety locks in the rear doors. Detachable key blade

To remove and refit the key blade from/to the remote control key, follow the steps below:

Detaching the key blade from the remote control key

Hold the remote control key so that the side with Volvo's logotype is turned upwards with the key ring facing you.

Slide the button in the lower corner of the key ring to the right.

Carefully press the front cover downwards and out from the key ring.

The cover loosens and can be lifted away from the remote control key.

Remove the key blade from the groove in the remote control key.

You can now use the key blade.

Refitting the key blade in the remote control key

Refit the key blade in the intended groove in the key case.

Refit the cover over the remote control key by carefully pressing the cover down and in the direction of the key ring.

A click sound indicates that the cover is fitted in place.

Replacing the battery in the remote control key

To replace the battery in your remote control key, follow the steps below:

Hold the remote control key so that the side with Volvo's logotype is turned upwards with the key ring facing you.

Slide the button in the lower corner of the key ring to the right.

Carefully press the front cover downwards and out from the key ring.

The cover loosens and can be lifted away from the remote control key.

Slide the button by the key blade groove in the direction of the key ring and then carefully press out the cover on the rear so that it loosens and can be removed.

Turn the remote control key over.

Use a screwdriver, for example, to turn the battery cover anticlockwise until the arrow symbol is aligned towards OPEN.

Carefully lift away the battery cover.

Carefully remove the battery.

Insert a new battery with the (+) side of the battery turned upwards. Avoid touching the remote control key's battery terminals with your fingers.

Refit the battery cover over the battery, and turn the cover so that the arrow symbol on the cover is aligned towards CLOSE.

Refit the cover on the rear by carefully pressing it into place in the direction of the key ring until a click sound indicates that the cover is fitted in place.

Turn the remote control key over and refit the cover on the front by carefully pressing it into place in the direction of the key ring until a click sound indicates that the cover is fitted in place.
