Locks and remote control keys

Updated 7/23/2018

The car can be locked/unlocked in a number of different ways. There are two types of keys to the car.

Lock/unlock and open/close

The car can be locked/unlocked from the inside, using the remote control key's buttons or keylessly with Passive Entry*. Then it is sufficient to have the key in e.g. a pocket.

If the tailgate is power-operated*, it can, as an option, be opened/closed with a foot movement* toward the left-hand side of the rear bumper, see the section "Opening/closing the tailgate with foot movement"

If the remote control key for any reason does not work for locking/unlocking, it may indicate that the batteries need to be replaced. The car can be locked/unlocked in the meantime with the detachable key blade.

Remote control key

The remote control key is not physically used when starting since the car is equipped with support for keyless starting (Passive Start) as standard. You simply need to have the key in the front part of the passenger compartment. If keyless locking/unlocking (Passive Entry)* has been selected, the key can be anywhere in the car to start the car.

For cars equipped with keyless locking/unlocking*, a slightly smaller, lighter and button-less key (Key Tag) is also supplied.

Additional keys can be ordered from a Volvo dealer.
