Private locking

When you drop the car off for service, at a hotel or similar, you can use the private locking function to lock the glovebox, tailgate, boot lid or rear seat. The private locking function varies depending on car model.

Private locking

When using private locking, two types of code are involved:

  • A security code that you enter when using the function for the first time
  • A PIN code that is a single-use code - you choose a new PIN code each time you activate private locking

If you forget your PIN code, or enter the wrong PIN code three times, you use the security code as a reset code. For this reason, store the security code in a safe place.

Choosing a security code

Select your security code as follows the first time you use private locking:

16w06 - Support site - Private locking

1. Tap on Private Locking in the centre display's function view.

2. Select a security code in the pop-up window that appears and tap on Confirm.

Using private locking

After you have selected your security code you can start using private locking. You can activate/deactivate the function in the centre display's function view as follows:

16w06 - Support site - Private locking

1. Tap on Private Locking in order to activate/deactivate private locking.

2. Select a single-use code and tap on Confirm. You then use this single-use code for unlocking. The next time you activate private locking you can select a new code.

 Note

The car needs to be in ignition mode I as a minimum for the private locking function to be activated.

Forgotten PIN code

If you have forgotten your PIN code, you can deactivate private locking using the security code you entered when you activated the function for the first time. If you have forgotten your security code, contact an authorised Volvo dealer for help with unlocking.

Resetting the car's system

If the car's system has been reset to factory settings then the security code is also reset and needs to be selected once again.

How does private locking differ between different models?

The private locking function may vary depending on car model. Below you can find information about how the function differs between different car models.

XC90

The glovebox and tailgate can be locked using private locking.

XC40 and XC60

The tailgate can be locked using private locking. The glovebox is locked with the enclosed key.

V60 and V90

The tailgate can be locked using private locking.

S60 and S90

The boot lid and rear seat can be locked using private locking - the function locks the rear seat in upright position and prevents the rear seat from being lowered.

The rear seat must be in upright position when private locking is activated in order to be locked. A rear seat in lowered position will not be locked.
