Our sustainability programmeAs a human-centric car company, we are a brand for people who care about other people and the world in which we live. This is at the core of our business and of our approach to sustainability. Our commitment is about re-thinking sustainability, and goes beyond our operations and our cars, and into society. It makes us think again every time we take decisions that affect the world and the lives of people.
There is a Swedish word that means “caring” and “consideration”, but also importantly “to think again“. This word is “omtanke” and summarises our way of protecting what’s important to you. Omtanke is the name of our new programme of sustainability commitments.
Volvo Cars and the changing role of business
Supporting the UN Global Compact
As a founding member of the UN Global Compact, Volvo Cars is delighted to have hosted the Nordic Network of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative on 8-9 May 2017. The Compact is the world’s largest and most influential corporate sustainability initiative with over 9,000 companies in 170 countries.
End of Life Vehicle Reprocessing
Volvo Car UK complies with all its "producer responsibility" obligations in respect of End of Life Vehicle legislation, which was introduced in 2005. Working with Cartakeback.com Ltd, the UK's leading scrap car recycling service provider, Volvo ensures that owners of Volvo cars have access to a convenient national network of scrap car recycling centres (Authorised Treatment Facilities), when finally scrapping their cars. These scrap car recycling centres depollute and recycle cars to high environmental standards. The service is free of charge to the owner of the scrap car, who is issued with a statutory DVLA Certificate of Destruction, absolving them from any tax liability for the old car.

Code of conduct
Our comprehensive Code of Conduct, which is based on our corporate policies, is our way of ensuring that we conduct business in an ethical and compliant way. The Code applies to everyone within Volvo Cars, as well as consultants and agency personnel working under the direction of Volvo Cars. We also expect that all of our business contacts and commercial partners should be governed by the same or similar principles stipulated in the Code of Conduct. It is also an important part of our commitment to sustainability.
Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Volvo Car UK Limited has adopted a Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement to explain how we are working to make sure that slavery and human trafficking is not occurring within our supply chains or in any other part of our business.
At Volvo, everything we do starts with people. So our mission to make people’s lives easier, safer and better is something that comes naturally to us. It’s the Volvo way. Today, we’re still as focused as ever on our three core values: safety, quality and care for the environment. Protecting what’s important. Making people feel special. And taking pride in helping the world become a better place for all.
Our approach to tax

Everyone working at, or with, Volvo Cars should be comfortable raising
questions or concerns about ethical issues or cases of non-compliance. We
support a culture of openness, integrity and accountability. If you want to

A Volvo is for life
The environment is something all car manufacturers now think about. In 1983, however, it was a different story. So, when we released the LCP 2000, a concept car designed with the good of the planet in mind, it raised a few eyebrows. Now, more than thirty years later, our commitment to the environment is stronger than ever.
