Volvo Cars and Nobel Media: Championing Innovation

A partnership of two global institutions, committed to progress through innovation.

A shared vision

The Nobel Prize rewards achievements in science, literature and peace. As a partner to Nobel Media, we are proud to take part in championing great ideas and honouring those behind the breakthroughs that benefit humankind. Our partnership is based on a shared Swedish heritage and a shared belief in progress through innovation.

“We are very glad to be partners to Nobel Media. It’s a possibility for us to mark the importance of innovations for the development of our societies.” - Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo Cars President and CEO.

From a single idea

In 1922, the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Albert Einstein for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. His finding paved the way for a number of innovations, including technology integral to digital cameras.

The impact of this Nobel Prize-winning revelation can be found in all of our Official Cars, as the basis of some of our most important safety innovations.

Discover more about our safety innovations
Active High Beam

Drive without worrying about high beam, so you can focus on your journey. In dark conditions, cameras identify approaching vehicles and dynamically shade the area of the road they occupy.

City Safety

Take on the city with added protection from our safety support system. Camera technology and radar are used to identify potential hazards such as other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

IntelliSafe Surround

Switch lanes and turn corners with peace of mind. When another vehicle enters the blind spot area, it is detected by cameras and radar. A warning lamp is then illuminated to alert you, so you can maneuver safely.

360° Park Assist

Park conveniently and confidently, with full control of your car. When parking or reversing, images from four hidden cameras are combined to give a bird’s eye perspective of your car and its surroundings.

Evolution through innovation

The discoveries made today, give us the opportunity to evolve our products and services to meet the needs of tomorrow. Volvo Cars believes that people should have the freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way. That principle drives our approach to innovation and sets our course towards our visions for the future.

Aiming for zero

Volvo Cars has a vision that nobody should be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo. Protecting and caring for people is at the heart of Volvo Cars’ philosophy and this is our commitment to saving lives.

Switching to electric

By 2025, we aim for fully electric cars to make up fifty per cent of our sales and to have sold one million electrified cars. This underlines our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our products and improve air quality in our cities.

Giving back time

By 2025, we aim to give every Volvo car driver back a week of their time each year. We believe that autonomous technology will become an integral part of everyday mobility, allowing you to spend more time on the things that matter.
