Polestar Cyan Racing and Thed Bjork crowned WTCC Champions
Volvo Cars, Polestar and Cyan Racing claim their first motorsport world titles at the FIA World Touring Car Championship. With Polestar Cyan Racing claiming the manufacturer title, alongside Thed Bjork clinching the driver champion title, the first ever Swedish racing World Champion.
Polestar Cyan Racing won the manufacturer’s award at the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) late last week, with a 28.5 point lead over nearest rival, Honda. Polestar Cyan Racing’s Thed Bjork emerged as driver champion with a matching number of points over his nearest competitor, Norbert Michelisz, after two flawless races.
“We entered the championship last year with a five-year plan to become World Champions. We did it in just two years. We have exceeded all of our expectations and goals this season,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar. “Thed Björk has done an awesome job this season and is a worthy champion. The team has put down thousands and thousands of hours to claim the World Title, I can’t thank them enough. This is the proudest moment in the history of our team and I am so proud to be able to say that we are the World Champions!”
Fellow Polestar Cyan Racing drivers Nicky Catsburg and Yvan Muller finished in the top 10 for both final races of the season, earning vital points for the team.
“Thed has really earned this World Title and the team has done a great job this season. We had a good final race weekend of the season and we managed to fulfil the goals we had set up ahead of it. I am proud of everyone in the team,” said Yvan Muller.
Congratulations to the team, a fantastic result and a testament to Volvo's developments over recent years!
The New Volvo XC60 impresses in recent Euro NCAP crash tests scoring a maximum 5 stars
The New Volvo XC60 has impressed again, this time at the Euro NCAP test centre where in recent crash tests the Safety Assist system scored 95%, 40% above the average for cars tested this year, with the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system scoring maximum points when tested at motorway speeds, as well as successfully avoiding collisions at all test speeds and in all scenarios.
‘The New Volvo XC60 has aced the exacting test protocols,’ said Matthew Avery director of research at Thatcham Research, which is part of the NCAP evaluation. ‘It’s exceedingly rare for a vehicle to score so favourably across the board. The adult occupant protection result for the Volvo XC60 is one of the best on record. But it’s in active safety that Volvo is really maintaining its lead. The XC60’s standard-fit safety technologies are excellent – or rather those that we were able to test, as its Turn Across Path and Run Off Road systems are not yet a feature of the Euro NCAP programme. That’s how high the Volvo XC60 is above the bar set by Euro NCAP.’

This Friday Truro Motor Company are sponsoring the 5th Friends of the Royal Cornwall Hospital charity golf event at Truro Golf Club.
Up to 40 teams of 4 will be competing for this year’s top spot, together with a challenging putting competition being held throughout the day.
Beatrice J Dyer, Chairman of the charity explains ‘We have been able to provide many useful pieces of equipment by grants which enhance the experience and comfort of our patients. Our biggest expenditure was for a Vivid E95 Cardiac Echo machine so that all children (0-16) in Cornwall who have a heart condition can now be monitored at RCH and no longer have to travel to Bristol.’
We are very proud to be supporting this great local charity and we look forward to a fantastic day of high quality golf on the 5,339 yard, 18 hole Truro course.
