Change of ownership with connected services

In the event of a change of ownership, there are some steps that need to be taken to unlink the previous owner and give the new owner the option to link the Volvo Cars app to the car.

Selling the car

The previous owner should take the following steps:

  • Deactivate the connection between the car and the Volvo Cars app.
  • Do a factory reset in the centre display.

Deactivating the link between the car and the Volvo Cars app

Volvo ID is personal and does not need to be changed or deleted if you sell your car. However, you need to end the ownership and the link between the Volvo Cars app and the car, as well as delete all personal user data from the car.

To deactivate the link between the car and the Volvo Cars app, you need to be logged into the app. If you do not have access to the app, contact your Volvo dealer and explain that you want to sell your car.

You can terminate your ownership under Connected cars in the tab. Select the car in question and terminate the ownership by following the instructions in the app.

User history and other user accounts will be deleted once you have terminated the ownership. Contact your Volvo dealer if you want to delete your contact details from the dealer's system.

Buying a car equipped with Volvo On Call

The new owner needs to take the following steps:

Contact a Volvo dealer for assistance to transfer remaining time from the previous owner's Volvo On Call subscription. An extension will need to be purchased if the subscription has expired. The Volvo dealer automatically generates a PIN code via email or SMS. Keep the PIN code in a safe place.

Connect the Volvo Cars app to the car.

See section Connecting the Volvo Cars app to the car.

When a car is purchased and imported to a different country, the owner should take care to visit a dealer in the country in which the car is purchased. The dealer should then delete all customer data in their systems. In the country to which the car is imported, the owner should contact a dealer for help with starting the Volvo On Call service.
