Altered start/stop symbols

The start/stop function switches off the engine temporarily when you come to a halt and then starts automatically when needed.

Updated appearance of warning messages for Pilot Assist, cruise control, adaptive cruise control and speed limiter

With the software update released in May 2018, the appearance of certain warning messages has been updated for the following functions, Pilot Assist, cruise control (CC), adaptive cruise control (ACC) and speed limiter(SL).

Updated centre display

With the Sensus Connect upgrade, available from May 2017, the centre display in your Volvo has been given a new and intuitive appearance. Navigation, the media player, home view and settings have all been updated. Buttons used frequently have been emphasised to enhance clarity.

Software updates

Volvo is constantly developing the in-car systems and the services offered to you. When the software in your car is updated you can have access to many new functions as well as improvements. You can update the software in your Volvo to the latest version when your car is serviced at an authorised Volvo dealer.

Note

Functionality after upgrading may vary depending on market, model, model year and options.

Updates from and including November 2019

  • Applies to the Twin Engine: The driver display shows --:-- while the correct charging time is being calculated.
  • Does not apply to the XC40: All Twin Engine cars with a fuel tank of 60 or 70 litres will have a new limit value for when the warning lamp for fuel is illuminated. The value will be changed from 50 km to 90 km.
  • Applies to the XC40: Improvement of calculated range, which provides more stable values, e.g. while driving in queues.
  • The memory setting for the rain sensor is set to "On" as start value.
  • Applies to the XC60/XC60 B4/B5 from and including model year 2020: A battery symbol has been added in the driver display in order to indicate when the car is regenerating.
  • Adjustment of message positions, all messages will be easier to see in the display.
  • Does not apply to the XC40: New message that clarifies when calibration of automatic parking brake takes place.
  • Changed notification for filling of AdBlue from 4.5 to 6.5 litres.
  • Infotainment system:
    • Improved logic to update maps online.
    • Applies from and including model year 2018

    • Improved voice recognition for names from the phone book regardless of language.
    • Applies to Mexico, New Zealand and Turkey: Correction of time zone.

    • Applies to cars with High Performance Pro (Harman Kardon): New function Vehicle Noise Compensation automatically adjusts the audio system's volume in order to compensate for higher fan levels and wind noise at increased speeds.

  • Improvement of the engine management system's optimisation.

  • Applies to Europe and China from and including model year 2018, not XC40, as well as the XC40 model year 2019: Improvement of engine management system optimisation.
  • Applies to the S90, V90, S60, V60 from and including model year 2019, as well as the XC90, XC60, XC40 from and including model year 2018: Improvement of transmission system optimisation.

Updates from and including April 2019

  • Improved logic for the seatbelt reminder in the rear seat. The signal will stop sounding when the car stops and start sounding again when the car moves.
  • Only applies to Europe and the USA: a new function, Volvo Data Analytics, has been integrated in order to improve the overall quality of our vehicles. This function will use a small amount of the vehicle's data plan.
  • Altered optimisation in the infotainment system for compensation for engine noise. Slightly altered sound may be heard.
  • Improved feedback for Pilot Assist. Under certain conditions, the steering wheel vibrates slightly when Pliot Assist steering assistance is disconnected, adaptive cruise control remains active. The same vibration as for lane assist is used when the car is about to leave its lane.
  • Does not apply to Twin Engine: Amended messages in the driver display (12-inch) for the Start/Stop function. A start/stop symbol has been added and the texts "Ready" and "Off" have been removed.
  • Only applies to Europe: Connected Safety will be available for more markets.
  • Updating Apple CarPlay:
    • Simplified start after an iPhone has been connected.
    • Visual notification of incoming SMS as well as other notifications from an iPhone.
    • Improved positioning when using map services in Apple CarPlay in China.
  • Improved software in Tuneln, more channels will work.

  • The user has a new timer for the vehicle's approach light. It used to be 30 seconds, and the new change means it is now 120 seconds.

  • Update of adjustments of lumbar and side supports that are set and saved in a driver profile. The supports are adjusted, as before, when the door is unlocked with a key connected to the profile, with the addition that they will be adjusted again when the car is turned on to take into account the actual pressure that occurred when the driver sat down in the driver's seat.
  • Driver profiles: The list of driver profiles has been updated with information in order to provide a clearer overview. If a profile has a key linked to it then this will now be printed in the list under the profile name. To make it easier to save changes to a protected driver profile, a "Save" button has been added by the active profile in the shortcuts menu for driver profiles.
  • The car can be driven away when the electric parking brake is deactivated even if "Auto hold" is activated and the driver's seatbelt is not buckled.
  • Voice control: General improvements and fixes, including increased performance/improved execution of POI

Updates from and including May 2018

  • Applies to the Twin Engine: The time for which the fuel tank isolation valve is open has been extended.
  • Update of the dimming function for the car's rearview mirrors that makes a greater difference between the different positions Light, Normal and Dark. See the manual for your car for more information on Rearview Mirror Auto Dimming.
  • Privacy and data has been updated. Function to activate and deactivate data sharing in general in the car is discontinued. Activation and deactivation of data sharing is instead only selected individually for each respective connected service and for downloaded apps.
  • Updated appearance and design of certain messages for Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, cruise control and speed limiter.
  • Lane assistance, (Lane Keeping Aid, LKA), updating and change to how the system works to sense if the driver has his/her hands on the steering wheel and is actively steering or not, which is a condition for the function. This can be noticed by a slight change when a warning for this appears in the driver's display, the warning sometimes occurs faster than previously and sometimes slower, with the aim of adapting better to different situations.
  • Due to the new Euro NCAP requirements, the seatbelt reminder for the rear seat sounds for longer if the belt is unbuckled before the car is stationary.
  • Does not apply to the XC40 and XC40 Twin Engine: Changed position for road signs in the head-up display when the navigation system is used and guidance is inactive for certain models. The road signs are now only seen on the right if the navigation route has been activated.
  • Does not apply to China: For comfort reasons, Pilot Assist cannot be activated if a trailer, bicycle rack or similar is connected to the car's electrical system.
  • Voice control: General improvements and fixes, including improved recognition for all languages, improved recognition directly from the start for English

Updates from and including March 2018

  • The Volvo On Call app has been improved and updated so that notifications are repeated fewer times.
  • Updating of the driver profile view in the centre display. The Protect Profile and Connect key options have changed places and there is the option that Save current settings to the profile is only visible if Protect Profile has been selected. When Save current settings to the profile is selected, the text in the window is changed to "Saving" for a few seconds, which confirms that changes to the settings are performed.
