VOLVO ON CALL PRIVACY POLICY

This Service Privacy Policy describes the privacy practices of Volvo Car USA LLC (“Volvo Car USA”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) with respect to particular processing for Volvo On Call. This Service Privacy Policy sets forth:

  • how we share your information;
  • retention and deletion of personal information; and
  • your rights about this use and sharing.

This Service Privacy Policy does not apply to authorized Volvo Cars retailers, or third parties to whom you directly provide your information including, but not limited to, subscription services, insurance companies, or other third parties who may offer special rates or products to Volvo Car USA customers, nor to content posted on social media channels. These entities are independent of Volvo Car USA and responsible for their own collection of information. Please refer directly to those entities and their particular privacy policies for more information.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND WHY

Volvo On Call is a subscription-based service featuring the Volvo On Call mobile application (“Volvo On Call App”) that keeps you connected to your Volvo vehicle (purchased or leased model 2018 or newer) (Volvo On Call App together with the services provided thereon, the “Volvo On Call Services”).

Volvo Car USA collects certain personal information from you when you use the Volvo On Call Services. “Personal information” is information that identifies, relates to, describes, references, is capable of being associated with, or could be reasonably linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer, household or device. Some personal information we collect from you, either directly or automatically, and some personal information we receive from other parties such as our Volvo retailers, our service providers, the government, or other third parties.

When you:

  1. create a Volvo ID

    : We collect from you your identifiers (such as your first and last name, phone number, and E-mail address) to create an account with us, provide you with access to the Volvo On Call Services or other services that require a Volvo ID, and communicate with you regarding your Volvo ID.
  2. Generally Use the Volvo On Call App

    : We collect from you your identifiers (such as your first and last name, phone number, E-mail address, Vehicle Identification Number (“VIN”), unique device identifier, and push notification token) and your purchase history (ownership period, any subscription services in which you are enrolled, and the model and year of your vehicle and corresponding vehicle specifications). We use this information to provide you with the Volvo On Call Services, such as the ability to control your vehicle remotely (e.g. remotely starting/stopping the engine and presetting the internal temperature), viewing the status of your vehicle (e.g. fuel level, windshield washer fluid levels, brake fluid levels, door lock status, tire pressure or maintenance warnings, hybrid battery status, or other vehicle status indicators). We also use this information to send you push notifications within the Volvo On Call App related to upcoming maintenance and service reminders for your vehicle.
  3. Use Safety Features of the Volvo On Call Services

    : we collect from you your identifiers (such as your first and last name, phone number, E-mail address, and VIN), your purchase history (such as any subscription services in which you are enrolled and the model and year of your vehicle and corresponding vehicle specifications), and any other personal information you choose to provide to a Volvo Customer Care operator. We use this information to direct access to accident or breakdown services from Volvo Roadside Assistance or to notify police, fire, medical, and other emergency services.
  4. Use Security Features of the Volvo On Call Services

    : We collect from you your identifiers (such as your first and last name, phone number, E-mail address, and VIN) and your purchase history (such as the model and year of your vehicle and corresponding vehicle specifications). At your request, we collect from you your vehicle location information (such as the physical location of your vehicle). We use this information to allow you to remotely unlock/lock doors, use the honk-and-flash personal alarm, receive theft alarm notifications, and, in the event your vehicle has been stolen, enable stolen vehicle tracking and, in some areas, vehicle immobilization.
  5. Create a Personal Driving Journal

    : We collect from you your identifiers (such as your first and last name, phone number, E-mail address, and VIN) and collect from you automatically through your vehicle telematics your vehicle location information (such as the physical location or movements of your vehicle). We use this information to activate your driving journal, which tracks your start and finish positions for trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and similar vehicle information.
  6. When You View This Volvo On Call Privacy Policy on Our Website

    : We collect from you automatically through cookies and similar technologies your identifiers (such as IP address) and internet activity. HOW WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Sharing of personal information for a business purpose within the preceding 12 months.

In the preceding 12 months we have shared your:

  1. At your request, your identifiers, purchase history, and location information with Roadside Assistance and emergency service dispatch providers to perform the requested Volvo On Call Services.
  2. At your request and where available, you identifiers with your wireless network provider to allow you to view and manage your vehicle’s wireless plan and monitor usage of your purchased or subscribed Internet-connected infotainment services.
  3. At your request, your identifiers and location information with authorized Volvo Car retailers to provide you with the requested Volvo On Call Services

Sale of personal information within the preceding 12 months

We have not sold any of your personal information that we collected through the Volvo On Call Services within the preceding 12 months.

RETENTION AND DELETION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

When your Volvo On Call subscription comes to an end, the details linked with this service, including your personal information, will be deleted after 90 days. For more information on how information linked to your Volvo ID is handled upon termination of your subscription, please see the terms and conditions applicable to Volvo On Call.

When a change of ownership of the vehicle is registered with Volvo Car USA, all information, including personal information, relating to the previous owner is permanently deleted from Volvo On Call for that vehicle. A change of ownership can be registered at a Volvo Car authorized retailer or in the Volvo On Call App.

If you activated the driving journal in Volvo On Call, the information related to trips is stored in Volvo Car USA’s cloud for up to 500 days and then deleted. For gas and diesel cars, the driving journal only contains the start and finish positions for trips. However, if you have a hybrid/Twin Engine model, the driving journal also includes information about your routes. If you deactivate the driving journal, we will stop collecting information relating to your trips and will delete any information we have already collected.

YOUR RIGHTS UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW

Under California law, consumers residing in California are granted the right to access or delete the personal information that we have collected about them, to opt-out of the sale of their personal information by us to a third party, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
