  • Safety Comfort Tech & Sound Pack & Load Performance Environment
  • IntelliSafe Standard

    • Energy-absorbing frontal structure
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The unique geometry of the frontal structure and longitudinal steel struts in the doors help disperse crash energy away from the front to the rear of the car, reducing impact effects on driver and passengers. And further adding to your protection, the compact, transversely mounted engine installation allows maximum space for deformation and energy dispersion.

    • Safety belts with pretensioners and load limiters
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Safety belts are the first line of defence when it comes to help protecting people during a crash. That’s why we introduced them in 1959. We also invented the audible and visual safety belt reminder and today, everybody in the car is reminded to fasten their safety belts before moving off. And in the information display on the instrument panel, you can check that the rear seat passengers have all fastened their safety belts and that nobody unfastens them during the trip. Pretensioners activate to tighten the belts within fractions of a second in the event of a collision. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled fashion.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Reinforced passenger compartment
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Wherever you go in your Volvo, you and your passengers are surrounded by a strong protective steel cage. And that it’s reinforced with one of the strongest steel types available – hot formed boron steel. In a collision, the front and rear crumple zones help to dissipate the energy of the crash to reduce the impact on those inside the car, while in a side-on impact, our SIPS™ side impact protection system distributes the crash force across a large portion of the car’s body to further reduce your risk of injury. And to further help protect passengers, there is a steel cross-member under the dashboard.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Inflatable Curtain
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 In a frontal offset or side-on collision, the Inflatable Curtain helps protect the heads of both front and rear passengers who are sitting on the sides. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts. And in Volvos equipped with integrated booster seats, the Inflatable Curtain has been extended downward to improve head protection for smaller or younger children.

    • City Safety
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Adding to a relaxed driving experience in for example slow-moving city traffic, our standard-fitted City Safety technology looks out for standstill or slower vehicles ahead and brakes automatically if needed to help you avoid or mitigate a collision. This laser-based technology can sense an impending collision at speeds from 4 km/h up to 50km/h, day and night. In the first instance, City Safety prepares the brakes so that they respond faster when you press the pedal. And if you fail to brake, City Safety will apply the brakes for you and switch off the throttle to lessen the effects of a collision. Even better, if the difference in speed between your car and the one in front is less than 15km/h, City Safety can prevent a collision from happening in the first place. City Safety is activated as soon as you start your car, and ready to assist you in such an eventuality. City Safety is just one element of our complete approach to car safety. We call it IntelliSafe, and it’s a programme targeted at fulfilling our aim to create cars that will help you avoid collisions altogether – it includes such features as Lane Keeping Aid, Collision Warning with full auto brake, BLIS™, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and much more.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • SIPS™ side impact protection system
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 We developed our unique Side Impact Protection System to help protect where you and your passengers are most exposed in the event of a side-collision. The steel framework of the car – including the front seat frames – is designed and reinforced to help displace the impact of a side-collision away from the occupants to other parts of the car body and help prevent intrusion into the cabin. The extremely strong side structure contains ultra-high strength steel and softer grades of steel to help withstand a severe side impact – even with a larger vehicle. The Inflatable Curtain (IC) for all the outboard occupants and the front seat side airbags interact with the SIPS to help provide further protection. In the rear, SIPS and the IC help protect the passengers in the outer rear seats.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Protection of unprotected road-users
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To help reduce the effects from an impact on unprotected road-users, the front of the vehicle is gently rounded, the headlamps are integrated flush with the body, and the bonnet is energy-absorbing to act as a crumple zone.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Pre-prepared restraints
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Your Volvo can sense an impending collision and prepare the car's restraint systems to help provide optimal protection. Using advanced sensors, the car scans the road ahead and if the system spots an obstacle that could result in a collision, it prepares the airbags and safety belts for the expected crash force. This together with a robust body structure gives the best protection in a low or medium-severe frontal collision.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Anti-locking brakes with Hydraulic Brake Assist and Ready Alert Brakes
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 In an emergency situation, the large anti-lock ventilated disc brakes of your Volvo will make all the difference. And if you find yourself travelling down a mountain road with the need to brake often and hard, you’ll welcome our brakes’ resistance to fading. But since there is always a risk of fade, your Volvo is prepared for this, too, with Fading Brake Support. This system gradually builds hydraulic brake pressure so that you always have reassuring pedal feel. But what if you find yourself having to brake in an emergency, and perhaps not applying the necessary pressure to the pedal? Well, we’ve developed Hydraulic Brake Assist, which ensures that maximum braking pressure is applied hydraulically during a panic stop. Likewise, if you suddenly lift off the accelerator or sensors detect an obstacle in front of the car, Ready Alert Brakes instantly move the brake pads closer to the brake discs to reduce the braking distance. And Electronic Brake Distribution ensures that the right amount of braking goes to the front and rear of the your Volvo depending on where the load in the car is distributed and what the road conditions are.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Emergency Brake light
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Our Emergency Brake Light helps alert vehicles approaching from behind if you are forced to panic brake. It works above 50km/h and knows the difference between normal and panic braking. If it is a panic stop, the brake lights will flash at a rate of four times per second, which will telegraph a clear message to following traffic that there’s a potential problem ahead. Once you slow to below 10km/h, the brake lights stop pulsing and your hazard lights take over.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Collapsible steering column
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The steering column is an advanced part of the safety system, with the upper and lower sections giving way in a controlled manner in a frontal impact to help protect the driver.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Restraint technologies
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 In a collision, Volvo’s restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within fractions of a second in the event of a collision and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to optimise protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation, depending on the force of the collision. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. Side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries in a side collision. The Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants. It also stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection for subsequent impacts. And to help protect children in the rear seat, IC interacts with the two-stage integrated booster cushions and the belt load limiters.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Side airbags
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 In a side-collision, the side airbags inflate instantly to help protect the chest and hip. The side airbags are located in the ideal spot on the front seatback.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Dual-stage airbags, driver and front passenger
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 In a frontal collision, the driver and passenger airbags help protect your head, face and chest. But because no two collisions are the same, the airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the impact. The driver’s airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column. And if the impact is low enough that the airbags aren’t needed, the system will just deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Head restraints
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The head restraints of your Volvo help offer outstanding protection regardless of a person’s height, whether they are seated in the front or the rear. And the rear middle head restraint can be fully retracted into the backrest to improve the driver’s rearward visibility. It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position. The outer head restraints can fold forward at the press of a button (optional) to further improve rear vision. In the folded position, they too are designed to obstruct passengers from sitting down without raising the restraints to their upright position.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • WHIPS™ whiplash injury protection system
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Our advanced WHIPS™ whiplash injury protection system incorporates the complete backrests and head restraints to help protect the driver and front seat passenger from whiplash injury if the car is hit from behind. During a rear impact, the WHIPS™ system moves the entire seatback with the passenger or driver while the head restraint remains rigid to support the neck. A unique Volvo design.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Anti-submarining protection
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To help prevent that passengers slide under and out of their safety belts in the event of a big impact, the seats feature anti-submarining guards which are specially shaped panels angled upwards at the forward edge inside the seats.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Energy-absorbing interior
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 All the panels and door sides are padded with energy-absorbing materials to help reduce the risk of injury to the car’s passengers.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Warning triangle
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 This lightweight wide-angle reflector stands upright to alert other road users even in strong winds and on slippery surfaces. It folds easily and stores in its own case.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • First-aid kit
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The first-aid kit is conveniently carried in the load compartment and contains a variety of bandages. The contents are stored in different compartments to make it easier to find what you need in an emergency.
        feature_Categories_item_image2

IntelliSafe Surround includes IntelliSafe Standard plus the following

    • Driver Alert Control
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Driver Alert Control is a nice and thoughtful way to alert you if your driving behaviour shows signs of distraction or tiredness. Active at speeds over 65km/h, a camera looks at the road ahead while Driver Alert Control checks on your steering inputs to see how they compare to your regular driving style. If it senses that you’re driving more erratically, or there are signs that you’re drowsy or distracted, it’ll give you an audible warning and a message on the instrument panel suggesting you take a break.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Road Sign Information
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 With Road Sign Information you don't have to miss important road signs. A forward camera detects speed limit, "no overtaking", "no entry" and various types of supplementary signs. The actual sign is then displayed on the centre dial on the driver display – to help keep you constantly alert on current restrictions. If you want, Road Sign Information can also alert you with a visual warning if you exceed the speed limit, by flashing gently three times. This is easily set in the centre console menu.
        feature_Categories_item_image2

IntelliSafe Pro includes IntelliSafe Standard, IntelliSafe Surround plus the following

    • Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Helping you to maintain your preset gap to vehicles in front at all speeds up to 200 km/h, the Adaptive Cruise Control is a supportive partner for a more relaxed driving experience on any journey. In slow moving city traffic, the Adaptive Cruise Control stop and go function* with ECO mode automatically adapts your speed to the vehicle in front while helping you save fuel by maintaining smoother progress with less need for surges of acceleration. From standstill, a press of a button or the accelerator is all it takes to make your car smoothly tail the vehicle in front. At speeds over 30 km/h, just select the desired speed and the minimum time gap to the vehicle in front. When the radar sensor detects a slower vehicle in front, the speed automatically adapts to that vehicle. And when the road is clear, the car resumes the selected speed. If Adaptive Cruise Control is disengaged and a vehicle in front comes too close, the distance alert function activates a warning light in the lower section of the windscreen to help you keep a proper distance. Whenever you want, you can also select conventional cruise control by pressing the Adaptive Cruise Control button for a few seconds. *The Queue Assist and stop and go function from 0 to 30 km/h requires Geartronic™ automatic transmission.

    Preventive safety

    • Active Bending Lights with Dual Xenon Technology
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Journeys after dark have become a lot more enjoyable – and safer – thanks to our Active High Beam, available as an option. With this system, you don’t need to keep flicking between dipped and full beam, which is not only annoying – according to several studies, it’s also a major cause of night-time accidents. Employing camera technology, AHB recognises the headlight beam of on-coming vehicles and automatically shifts between high and low beam to optimise your vision without dazzling other drivers. And because the system is intelligent, the high beam shuts off when you enter a city, but if you drive past an illuminated sign – say a filling station or supermarket – it stays on so you can see what’s coming up. This means you benefit from safety as well as convenience.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Statistics show that in half of all rear-end collisions the driver at fault doesn’t brake at all. Active at speeds above 4 km/h, our collision avoidance technology can give you audible and visible warnings if you’re too close to a vehicle in front or if there are pedestrians or cyclists in your path. If you don’t react and a collision is imminent, full auto-braking is engaged to help you avoid or mitigate an impact. Within a range of 150 metres, a radar sensor behind the grille continuously monitors the distance to the vehicle driving in front of you and a digital camera behind the windscreen determines what objects are in front of you. During daylight it can also detect standing or moving pedestrians or cyclists. If a pedestrian or a cyclist unexpectedly swerves out in front of your car or if a vehicle suddenly brakes (or is stationary) and Collision Warning senses that a collision is likely to happen, it will prompt you to act with a flashing warning light on the windscreen along with an audible alarm. Moreover, this technology supports driver-initiated braking by pre-charging the brakes to reduce the braking distance. If you don’t react to the warning and a collision is imminent, the car immediately brakes with full braking force.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 It can happen so easily; you’re on a long motorway trip, or momentarily distracted and you wander briefly out of your lane. This puts you in danger of collision, or of simply going off the road on your own. It doesn’t bear thinking about, but your Volvo can help with the Lane Departure Warning system. When you’re driving over 65km/h, a camera looks at the lane markings and can tell if you wander out of your lane. If you do, it will give you an audible warning but if you use indicators to signal a lane change, LDW will stay silent.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 It can catch you out when you least expect it. And it really is a heart-stopping moment when, on a rain-slicked or ice-covered road, the tail of your car steps out as it threatens to go into a skid. Steer into that skid and you can end up fishtailing, and ultimately, going into a spin. This is precisely the kind of scenario that has made Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) one of our most vital safety advances of the past decade. The system looks at factors like what direction the car is travelling, how fast the wheels are rotating and how much steering lock is applied. Using all this information, DSTC can detect a potential skid and take action to prevent it by reducing engine power and/or braking the appropriate wheels.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 With our Tyre Pressure Monitoring System you'll be instantly alerted if one of your tyres is low on pressure. Active at 30 km/h or more, it helps increase your safety as well as ensuring maintained comfort and handling characteristics. The system uses sensors mounted in each tyre valve.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Active Bending Lights with Dual Xenon Technology
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 You know when you’re driving down a winding country road at night and the headlights don’t quite show you everything coming up around the next bend? We wondered, what if your headlights could swivel like eyes, so your car could help you see around corners? So we developed Active Bending Lights – with motorised lamps that can turn up to 15 degrees in either direction – that follow the way you steer. And by using extra bright Dual Xenon lights (low beam and high beam), you get a 90 per cent boost to your vision round bends at night. This means you can gain a further 45 metres for braking. You can also experience highly effective low-beam illumination on narrow, winding roads and extremely powerful high beams on the motorway – a sensor disengages the adaptive function during daylight to reduce wear. It’s a very clever system, too – depending on the load in the car, the headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road, even during hard acceleration or braking.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Side-marker lamps
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Integrated front and rear side-marker lamps help alert other drivers to your car’s presence.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Water-repellent front side windows
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To provide far better visibility in the rain, your Volvo’s front side windows help repel water as you drive. The hydrophobic surface treatment turns water into small drops that will be blown away by the force of the wind. This also gives you the benefit of less ice or frost in winter conditions. This option is offered in combination with laminated windows.
        feature_Categories_item_image2

    Protective safety

    • Lower cross-member
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To help protect passengers in an oncoming car with bumpers that are lower, there's a cross member integrated low down in the front structure. In an impact, this cross member is designed to help activate the other car’s own crumple zones and other safety features to help reduce the risk of injury. It also works in a side impact with a smaller car.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Volvo On Call and smartphone app
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The Volvo On Call app lets you access your car’s dashboard, plus get your door lock status, fuel level, maintenance warnings and much more! Push the Volvo On Call button or use your mobile app to speak to an operator, who can dispatch assistance to your GPS location if you require roadside assistance. If a collision is detected, your Volvo alerts a trained operator to contact the vehicle and send emergency service. You can also remotely control the climate in your car using just your smartphone. Use the app to pre-heat your engine or warm up the cabin of your diesel Volvo, without using the engine. It’s one of life’s little everyday luxuries with a Volvo.
        feature_Categories_item_image2

    Security

    • Alarm
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The alarm is connected to the doors, bonnet, boot and ignition. It also reacts to movement inside the car or the breaking of a window. A level sensor can be added to deter thieves from jacking up the car to steal your wheels or tow it away.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Panic alarm
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 In an emergency, you can use the panic button on the remote control to attract attention. Press and hold the button for at least 3 seconds or press it twice to activate the hazard lights and the horn.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Remote-controlled central locking system
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 A touch of a button on the remote control or the optional Personal Car Communicator unlocks the doors and tailgate. Use the personal settings menu to decide if the remote unlocks the driver’s door first, or all doors at the same time. You can also close or open all windows (including the sunroof if you have one) and unlock the boot separately.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Automatic door locking
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To further enhance your personal security, the doors can be set in the information menu to automatically lock the moment you drive away. Alternatively, lock them swiftly from the front seats using the lock button. Lock buttons are also available for the rear seat passengers.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Private Locking
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Private Locking is a function that allows you to keep the luggage and glove compartment locked even when you lend out your remote control or your Personal Car Communicator to, for example, a valet parking attendant. To activate Private Locking, a miniature key incorporated within the Personal Car Communicator is used to lock the glove compartment. This stops both compartments from being unlocked with the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator, but allows the central locking system and ignition to be used as normal.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Global locking and closing
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 This function allows you to close all windows and lock the car all at once by pressing the button on the remote control or the Personal Car Communicator for two seconds. Alternatively, press the button for two seconds to unlock the car and open all the windows.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Immobiliser and theft-protected locks
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Not only will the door locks withstand most break-in attempts, the electronic immobiliser makes it impossible to start the car without the right remote control. And even if a would-be thief manages to get into the car via a window, the deadlock system makes it impossible to open the doors from the inside.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Load compartment floor hatch
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Under the load compartment floor you’ve got an extra space for storage. This area is easy to access via a hinged floor hatch. In addition the tailgate – just by the function of its elegant design – overlaps and locks the hatch when it's closed, preventing a smash-and-grab burglary.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Lockable floor
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To further foil smash-and-grab burglaries, the closed bootlid – by virtue of its design – overlaps and seals the hatch to the compartment hidden under the cargo floor. And when you use the private locking function, this area is also rendered inaccessible to others, such as valet car park attendants.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Personal Car Communicator with Keyless drive
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 PCC is an advanced remote control that combines ‘keyless drive’ with two-way communication with your Volvo. Keep the PCC with you and the car unlocks automatically as you pull the door handle. Start the engine by pressing a button on the dash, and when you park, lock your car by pressing a button in the door handle. Later in the day, if you’re wondering whether you’ve locked your car, the PCC can tell you by displaying the status that the car was last left in, wherever you are in the world. When you are approaching your car (within a distance of approximately 100 m), the PCC can give you a warning if the car’s alarm has been activated, and an extra visible warning if it’s been activated within the last five minutes. Keep the car key in your pocket or handbag. Using keyless drive technology you can unlock the doors and drive away without using the car key. To start the engine, just turn the starter control in the instrument panel.

Our optional Ambient Light package illuminates any features you might need to find at night. A sophisticated white glow ensures you’ll never have to fumble in the dark for cupholders or root around blindly in the door pockets. “The overall effect is very warm and cosy, like being in a warm Swedish house on a cold night,” say our designers. The colour theme corresponds beautifully with the backlit white controls in the dash and elsewhere in the car. Even the optional compass in your rear view mirror lights up in the same elegant white tone.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Fully adjustable front seats
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 There’s no such thing as a standard-sized Volvo owner. That’s why we’ve taken such care to design seats that can be manually adjusted to fit a huge range of physiques. You can, for example, change the height and the angle of the seat cushion to suit you perfectly and give full under-thigh support, whatever your shape or size. This great adjustability is also optionally available for the passenger seat. To make sure the small of your back is comfortably supported, the lumbar support can be adjusted on each front seat. • Power operated driver seat with memory function for seat and side mirrors
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 You know how frustrating it is to climb behind the wheel, only to find that a partner or colleague has adjusted the seat and door mirrors to suit their particular physique. That’s why you can electrically adjust the driver’s seat and door mirrors to your perfect position and then your Volvo saves the settings. Every time you use your remote control for the central locking, the seat and door mirrors will automatically adjust to your preferences (you get two remote controls or Personal Car Communicators with your Volvo and can order up to four more). Each remote control triggers the corresponding setting from the last time that particular remote control was used. Furthermore, you can save up to three different seat and door mirror settings by using the buttons on the front door interior panels.

    Climate

    • CleanZone automatic function
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To prepare a fresh environment in your new Volvo even on a warm day, the automatic CleanZone function initiates a ventilation cycle, which is triggered when you unlock the car with your remote control. This feature is active on days when it is at least 10°C outside. The automatic CleanZone function also does a great job of venting out allergy and asthma inducing substances, especially gases and smells from new materials in your new car. This automatic function is gradually reduced during the first years of usage to finally be terminated.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Interior Air Quality System
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Our IAQS technology continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Electronic Climate Control
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Electronic Climate Control (ECC) maintains the cabin temperature you choose and can be set independently for the driver and front passenger. Further contributing to your health and comfort, the system’s humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity in relation to the outside climate.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • AC climate unit
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Not only does this aircon system keep the cabin cool, its built-in filter also prevents dust, pollen and exhaust particles entering the cabin through the ventilation system. The adjustable ventilation and heating vents in the rear means extra comfort if you're in the back - as well as helping keep ice and mist off the rear side windows.

    • Fuel-operated parking heater
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 A fuel-operated parking heater makes your car easier to start, warms up the cabin and helps reduce the environmental impact – a cold engine produces far more harmful emissions than a warm one, and will increase engine wear. You can start the heater directly via the centre display, or set the time you’d like to enter your warm and defrosted car. With a remote starter you can activate the heater without going out to the car. And if your car is equipped with Volvo On Call, you can start the heater using your smartphone to pre-heat your engine or warm up the cabin, without starting the engine.

    • Driver display, digital
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 What kind of driver are you? The answer can change from day to day. Sometimes you want an active driving experience, at others you just want to cruise. The Adaptive Digital Display instrument option offers three set-ups – Elegance, Eco and Performance. They allow you to change the way you receive information according to your mood and driving style. Elegance with it’s brown colour theme is the default mode, showing current and average speed, current and average fuel consumption, distance to empty tank, time and outdoor temperature. It also shows engine temperature and revs, and keeps you informed about your Active Cruise Control status. Another feature, Road Sign Information, displays a small symbol showing the current speed limit and overtaking rules. In a really smart move, your satnav directions pop up in the middle of the display so you don’t have to move your eyes between two screens. The Eco mode has a green colour theme and is all about encouraging and rewarding a fuel-efficient driving style. Of course, you still get the benefit of satnav directions and Road Sign Information. The Performance mode is in a striking red, and gives you a large rev counter with your speed in a digital readout in the centre. On the right, a power meter shows how much engine power is available, which is a useful tool for overtaking. You can also opt for the standard new Analogue Instrument Cluster with a single large dial and two complementary instruments on either side.

    • Centre display
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Volvo's intuitive centre display allows you to explore conveniently the hi-tech features of your car and personalise them to suit your needs. All information is displayed in a high-resolution 5-inch or 7-inch colour screen. A push of the MY CAR button in the centre console gives you access to all system settings like City Safety, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Warning with Full Auto-Brake and Pedestrian Detection, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Road Sign Information (RSI), lights, door mirrors, climate, central locking, audio and phone. With the 7-inch screen, you can choose one of the multimedia audio systems, which will also display the Road Traffic Information (RTI) navigation system, park assist camera, DVD, digital TV etc. Everything is conveniently controlled using the ergonomic steering wheel controls – so you can keep your attention on the traffic and your hands on the steering wheel.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Cruise control
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Conveniently operated from the steering wheel, cruise control allows you to drive in a more relaxed way without having to keep your foot on the accelerator. The car maintains the speed you choose until you turn off the cruise control or press the brake, accelerator or clutch. After braking or using the clutch, the car returns to its previous cruising speed at the touch of a button. After accelerating – for instance to overtake – your car automatically reverts to its previous cruising speed once you release the accelerator.
        feature_Categories_item_image2

      • feature_Categories_item_image2 This helps ensure that you don't exceed a certain speed. Just set a speed using the steering wheel controls.
    • Road Sign Information
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 With Road Sign Information you don't have to miss important road signs. A forward camera detects speed limit, "no overtaking", "no entry" and various types of supplementary signs. The actual sign is then displayed on the centre dial on the driver display – to help keep you constantly alert on current restrictions. If you want, Road Sign Information can also alert you with a visual warning if you exceed the speed limit, by flashing gently three times. This is easily set in the centre console menu.

    • Park assist sensors, rear
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Activated when you reverse, rear park assist sensors help you when manoeuvring into tight spaces. The audio system is turned down and a pulsating sound from the rear loudspeakers increases in frequency as the car gets closer to the obstacle, becoming a continuous tone when it’s time to stop. The centre console display screen shows a top view of the car and the activated sensors.

It’s designed to obstruct taller passengers from sitting down without raising the restraint to its upright position.

They will also be activated if you turn on the windscreen wipers or the rear fog light. The system will turn the headlights automatically as well.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Multifunctional door mirrors
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The generously dimensioned door mirrors are power operated using a joystick in the driver's door panel. Indicators are embedded in the sides of the mirror – a nudge of the indicator stalk will activate three flashes of the indicator light, so there's less risk your turn will go unannounced. To further enhance your safety and comfort, there are options such as power folding and ground lighting.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Automatically dimmed inner rear-view mirror
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Ending the need to take your hand off the steering wheel and stop headlight beams shining in your eyes, the anti-dazzle function is stepless and returns to normal when it's no longer needed.

The integrated ground lighting is activated with the remote control or with the Personal Car Communicator (PCC). Besides making your way to and from your car safer at night, this is also convenient when getting in. And to facilitate parking close to the kerb, the door mirror on the passenger side can tilt automatically or by the push of a button when you engage reverse gear.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Power windows, front and rear
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The power windows have controls conveniently located in the door armrests. The front windows can be lowered or raised with a quick press or pull of a button, and you can lock the back windows from the driver’s seat if you’re travelling with small children. In this case, you’ll also be glad of the automatic anti-clamp protection, which will stop a window from closing on a trapped little hand.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Interior lighting
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 An entry light on both the driver and front passenger side lights the foot-well area as you get into the car. • Stop/Start technology
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 To further reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 8% when driving in the city, all engines feature our Stop/Start technology. Once the engine is warmed up and the car comes to a standstill (for example at a traffic light) where you put the gear in neutral and release the clutch, the engine automatically shuts off. And instantly as you press the clutch pedal, the engine restarts and you’re on the go. If your Volvo features a Geartronic™ automatic transmission, the engine automatically shuts off when you bring the car to a halt and restarts the instant you press the accelerator. An extra battery ensures that all infotainment and comfort systems will function as usual even with the engine shut off. The Stop/Start system can be deactivated with a push of a button in the centre console and is active between 0° and 30° C.

    • Engine braking energy regeneration
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Take advantage of energy. Every time you release the accelerator while a gear is engaged, the engine braking energy that otherwise would be wasted is fed back to the battery. This reduces the average load of the alternator and results in 2-3 per cent lower fuel consumption – a valuable contribution to fuel economy and lower CO₂ emissions.

    • All-wheel Drive (AWD)
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The advanced AWD technology with Instant Traction™ helps increase driving stability and traction on all road surfaces, in all weather conditions. It has an electronic management system that constantly monitors the speed of the wheels, the throttle, engine torque, engine speed and the brakes. As driving conditions change, wheels with the best grip get the most power. When a tyre loses traction, power is reduced to that wheel and instantly transferred to the more sure-footed wheels.

    • Hill Start Assist
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Hill Start Assist automatically keeps the brake pressure while you move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator, so you’ll never slide backwards or stall your engine again when driving off up an incline. Hill Start Assist also works in reverse gear.
        feature_Categories_item_image2
    • Hill Descent Control
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Hill Descent Control offers a smooth and controlled hill descent on steep, rough and slippery roads. Simply push the Hill Descent Control button and the vehicle will descend using the brake system to control each wheel’s rotating speed – you are then free to concentrate fully on steering. Hill Descent Control also makes it easier to move off when towing a heavy trailer or a boat on a trailer up a ramp. The technology also works in reverse gear.

    Chassis & Steering

    • Chassis
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The chassis of your XC70 has been tuned for a very comfortable ride, but not at the expense of sporty and well-balanced handling. The advanced multi-link rear and MacPherson front suspension mounted on a rigid body give you a sense of control and confidence on the road. Very generous ground clearance (210mm) and short overhangs contribute to an excellent performance on rough roads with a great ability to go off-road, too.

    • Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept (Four-C)
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept provides a choice of three distinctive driving modes – Comfort, Sport or Advanced. Whichever you choose, this technology monitors the car, road and driver 500 times per second, simultaneously adjusting each shock absorber to maintain optimal handling. At the heart of Four-C is a high-tech electronic management system, which continuously controls the four Monroe-Öhlins shock absorbers and interacts with the Electronic Stability Control system, engine, brakes and steering to enhance your chosen handling style.

    • Speed-dependent power steering
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 The optional speed-dependent and progressive power steering uses sophisticated, speed-sensitive technology to regulate the amount of power assistance you need while driving. At highway speeds, the steering is firm and positive. When parking or in slow traffic, the steering is light and effortless. While the steering sensitivity adjusts automatically depending on your car’s speed, you can choose in the centre display between three levels of overall steering sensitivity – for low steering effort, medium or high.

  • Inside

    • Interior Air Quality System
      • feature_Categories_item_image2 Our IAQS technology continuously monitors incoming air and will, if necessary, temporarily close external air vents to shut out carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. When the air vents are opened, an active carbon filter protects the passengers from other harmful gases and unpleasant odours. This helps to ensure that the air you breathe in the car is clean, often cleaner than that outside when driving in heavy city traffic and tunnels.
