Volvo Car launches ground-breaking Rear-Wheel Drive models in Thailand

Bangkok, THAILAND – For the first time in 25 years, Volvo Car Thailand is now offering a rear-wheel drive product. The Volvo C40offersarge Pure Electric - Single Motor and Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric - Single Motor offer an increased range while maintaining power and agility with the second-generation permanent magnet electric motor driving the rear axles.

\n\n“The rear-wheel drive variant is another big step in our work towards becoming a fully electric car company in Thailand by 2025,” said Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Thailand. “Range and charging times are key factors for more and more customers. This new addition to our fully electric models will greatly support our ambition to help more people make the switch to fully electric cars because they now have even more options to choose the car that suits their needs.”

\n\nWith the weight of the battery and motors more evenly distributed throughout the vehicle, traction for the rear wheels is greatly improved when compared with a traditional front-engine ICE car.

\n\nThe new Single Motor C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge feature a powerful 175 kW (238 hp) permanent magnet e-motor on the rear axle and a 69kWh battery pack. This combination of a more energy-dense battery and efficient motor allows the Single Motor variant of C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge to achieve up to 590 and 565 kilometers of range2, respectively on the combined NEDC test cycle. Charging power has improved as the uprated 69 kWh battery pack allows for charging at a top rate of 150kW DC. Charging the car1 from 10-80 percent state-of-charge takes approximately 34 minutes.

\nExterior updates also help contribute to efficiency gains. For example, a new 19-inch, 5-Spoke Black Diamond Cut Alloy Wheel not only boosts the overall look of both models, but it also helps to reduce drag through its aerodynamic design. The signature Thor’s Hammer headlights are augmented with state-of-the-art Pixel LED light technology, enabling them to automatically adapt to traffic in front and efficiently light up the road ahead without dazzling other drivers.

\n3Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric - Single Motor is available in Onyx Black Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, Sage Green Metallic, Fjord Blue Metallic, Silver Dawn Metallic newly introduced Vapour Grey Metallic.

\n3Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure - Electric Single Motor is available in Onyx Black, Crystal White, Sage Green Metallic, Bright Dusk Metallic and the newly introduced Vapour Grey Metallic and Cloud Blue.
