Troubleshooting sound system issues in your car
If you're experiencing sound system issues, try restarting the centre display and updating your car's software before contacting your Volvo dealer.
Sound system issues
Try the troubleshooting steps below if you experience any of the following issues:
- Any loss of sound, such as no sound from the radio, direction indicators, navigation guidance, or parking sensors
- Reduced sound quality, such as distortion or static
Restarting the centre display
Many temporary software issues can be resolved by restarting your car's centre display. Read your car's user manual for instructions on how to restart the centre display.
Your car's audio should be back to normal after the reset.
If you are having issues adjusting the volume, you can also try switching to a different media source.Note
Alternative reset method
If restarting the centre display doesn’t resolve the issue you can also try the following:
- Leave and lock your car.
- Wait approximately 25 minutes for the system to fully power down.
- Return to the car and check if the sound has been restored.
Software updates
Keeping your car's software up to date is essential for preventing and resolving any potential software issues. Software updates address known issues and provide the latest functionality and improvements.
Checking for updates
If you're unsure about your software version or need help with updates:
- Find your car's software version via your car's centre display. Go to Settings→System→Software updates.
- Use the Volvo Cars app to check for available updates and schedule installation.
- Contact your Volvo dealer, they can check if a software update is available for your car and install it for you.
Downloading and installing the latest software updates over the air is recommended. A workshop assisted software update may incur a fee.Tip
When to contact your dealer
If your car's software is up to date and the troubleshooting steps don’t resolve your sound issues, contact your Volvo dealer for additional support.
You should not need to perform system resets regularly. If you car's software is up to date and you still need to reset the system frequently, have your car inspected at an authorised Volvo workshop to identify and resolve any underlying issues.Note
